yknow theres a lot of pressure to be successful, particularly on artsy kids whose professions are seen as useless unless theyre famous, but life is fucking hard and sometimes things dont turn out

but i think thats not bad. my dad has wanted to be a musician forever, and hes rly pretty good. but then he joined the military to get away from an abusive family, and then he got married, and then he got divorced, and a lot of horrible shit HAPPENED. he has ptsd and severe anxiety and he could never really get back on the horse. and he never made it as a musician, and now hes 53

but i grew up in a house full of instruments, and he can play all of them, and some of my earliest memories are of him playing guitar on the front porch and me thinking there wasnt a better musician in the world. so. even if you dont get to the stars, exactly, what you do isnt worthless. its not a waste of time if life is difficult and you cant make it, or if you arent famous, or if your work doesn’t influence thousands of people. it will influence someone

there are a million ways to be happy and a million ways to be a successful artist. we create what we do to enhance the human experience and relate to each other and improve ourselves. theres something to be said for just doing that,,,for the sake of doing it, yknow

My mother never became a professional artist. She became a social worker, then later taught emotionally disturbed children. But our home was filled with photographs of wildflowers and wildlife. Spice racks, shelves, and other useful objects were adorned with small paintings. She taught me and my sister that we could make things beautiful, even if in small ways, and let us glue glitter and fake gems on our cheap kids furniture and make it ours. Capitalism tries to say that art isn’t successful unless it makes money. But that’s not why humans make art. We make art to convey emotion. To make an object or a moment or a story OURS. And making someone smile when they hear you sing, or look at something you made for them is as valid a reason for creating as any other.

my dad can play guitar and make art, but he’s spent his life as a software engineer or a tradesman, never in a creative position. i still have very fond memories of him sitting at his desk with his headphones on, learning how to play a song by ear; and we still have his sketches of his old dungeons and dragons characters framed on the wall.

Warden Tabris sketches cause I’m taking a break from a portrait I’m doing rn.

Obvs, everyone has their own personal headcannons about their wardens. Though, this option doesn’t exist in game, I like to imagine my character as more akin to a spellsword-type class. I like to think of her fighting style of a mix of warrior and mage - warriors that can use their to mana to create weapons. She mostly uses one handed weapons alongside a spectral weapon, the catch being that members of this class have less destructive power than the typical staff using mage in return for a buffs on speed, constitution and willpower. The role of the spellsword is to be a more bulkier alternative while allowing a debuffed amount of magic. But, for headcannon purposes I’ve decided that my warden in particular uses Rivani magic. Since I am black woman myself, I want my warden to be black woman too and since Rivain has dark skinned population, i like to think Adaya (the canonical mother of tabris) was from there.

It gonna sound kinda odd but visually I imagine the fighting style looking like a cross between sayaka miki from madoka magica and Emily kaldwin from dishonoured 2 but with no teleportation and capped weapon sumoning. Maybe that’s a bit weeby for DA but I do what I want haha.

brosca not rlly knowing what good food tastes like bc they usually stick to gruel or porridge bc thats all they could be served for being a heavy in dust town. during a trip alistair confesses "yknow in the chantry some of the boys, the mean ones, used to say dwarves ate rocks" and brosca, embarrassed, says, "when there isnt anything else...its not as horrible as youd think. you just cant chew them" and everyone in the partys like.... you really ate rocks?? and brosca sighs and says that when you can hardly scrape by youd be surprised what you do to survive. so the next day they somehow force brosca out of camp w shale for as long as possible before alistair leliana and zevran IMMEDIATELY go to morrigan and oghren for help to put together the greatest stew ever. morrigan instructs them on what herbs to collect, oghren gives his opinion on beers, leliana uses her experience and technique to make sure nothing burns, alistair(despite his ineptitude w actual cooking) actually has a fantastic eye for meats & (naturally)cheeses, and zevran pinches spices and taste tests as they go. sten offers to make a meal of his own to add & hes scary so...sure. later, at dusk, they call shale and brosca back, and they yell "surprise!" in front of the greatest feast broscas ever seen. the crew begs them to take a bite of everything, so brosca does, and very carefully, says, "hmm..i dont know....not very rock-y" and everyone laughs and sits down to a wonderful meal and pleasant conversation, and everyone smiles at least once, even sten and shale. brosca doesnt stop smiling, even when they go to bed.

Tribal vampiric warrior - concept

Idk might call her camilla and make her big gay. I’m thinking she’s the victim of age old vampiric curse, sealed away by her tribe awaiting the day to arise. But, she’s actually pretty nice just a little bit bloodthirsty.

(Ok, that’s enough edgy oc show and tell - probably will change things about this character but I like the core idea of her)
