Quiet Time in Romans 3:9-26
Just because we observe the law perfectly does not mean we consider ourselves us righteous. The scripture says that we all have sinned and fall short for God’s glory.
Regardless of whether we are christians or even non-christians, all of us fall into sin. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.
However God showed us how to be right with Him. It is by placing our faith in Christ Jesus.
“We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are.”
Righteousness comes from God and not by our works.
“For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he makes sinners right in his sight when they believe in Jesus.”
Romans 3:25-26 NLT
I am just amazed because if it’s not for Jesus we will not have a single chance to be right with God. And when we read the bible starting from the old testament how sinful the people are, but God did not choose to totally destroy the world, because God is looking ahead. He did it to demonstrate his righteousness. God is fair and just. He punish wicked people yet He also is fair by giving us a chance to be right with Him by believing in His Son, Jesus Christ ❤️
Righteousness is by obeying God’s law but when Jesus came, righteousness has been justified because of Him. We still have to obey the law of course but at the same time we need to put our faith in Jesus. And the scripture says that, faith without works is dead.
But we need to look at the context of Romans 3. I believed that Paul is addressing it to both Jews and Gentiles. Paul is a Jew. We know that Jews, were mentioned as the chosen people of God. However they should not boast about that nor boast that they are righteous because of their obedience to the law.
“For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands. The law simply shows us how sinful we are.”
Because God’s standard is high. We will never meet God’s law perfectly.
“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”
It does not mean that we just have faith and ignore obeying the law. Aside what was written in the scripture that faith without works is dead. When we read Romans 3:31, it says there that only when we have faith we can trully fulfill the law.
“Well then, if we emphasize faith, does this mean that we can forget about the law? Of course not! In fact, only when we have faith do we truly fulfill the law.”
