want to tell a little story here so it stays somewhere.
on the 15th of july, i found a sick pigeon on the street. i took him home, gave him a box, some water, and some seeds. i managed to take him to the city guard post, where he would be picked up by people from a local wildlife rehabilitation centre.
that same day, a few hours later, i found another pigeon in a tragic state, right in the middle of really crowded street. he was really weak, could barely stand, and was breathing with his beak open. i was in a hurry, but i still caught him so i could do the same thing for him.
because he was so sick, i had to act fast, and i had therapy in 10 minutes, so i called my friend to ask if he could come pick him up. five minutes into the phone call, the bird was dead.
i was holding him against my chest, my phone in my other hand, trying to figure out the logistics, and then i looked down at him. his head had fallen back to the side, one open eye looking at me. he wasn't moving anymore. he wasn't blinking anymore. just a limp, warm little body in my hands, against my chest. he died so quickly that i hadn't even noticed.
it haunts me that he died in my arms and i was unable to help him. it haunts me that i might somehow be the one who killed him, simply because he died while i was holding him.
i left him under a tree near the school i was passing by, in a green area away from the cars and passersby. i covered his body with leaves and branches, and then went to pick some field flowers. i laid the whole bouquet over his little body and made him a flower duvet that covered him completely.
cried like a bitch, obviously.
it broke my heart in the saddest way possible.
he'll be there forever in my memory, and his life mattered to me. it's never just a bird.
today im going to smoke death incense
