Maria takes in disabled and chronically unwell cats, as well as emergency cases such as sick and abandoned kittens or neglect cases from hoarding situations, as well as abandonment cases. SOS - please support me in helping this girl. How long she must have suffered without anyone bothering to take her in. How can people watch a cat suffer like this, and do nothing? People found her and contained her, but had nowhere for her to go. So I’ve stepped in, but honestly I desperately need financial help in order to assist her and the other cats in my care. I see so much trauma in very young cats. They are so frightened to be around humans - either because of negative experiences or lack of exposure. So many people are unkind to stray cats - kick them, shout at them, throw things at them, and show no patience or kindness. Stray life is hard. It’s utterly heartbreaking that some cats get the world and some get nothing, purely based on luck. There are hundreds of millions of stray cats in the world who endure horrible, short lives. All this can be prevented by neutering and by a community effort to care for cats - feeding them, sorting out vet work, providing shelter. Here in Crete, Maria takes in very vulnerable cats, such as blind, sick and pregnant strays who have horrible lives ahead of them. She cares for over 160 cats and is desperately trying to raise funds to create a permanent shelter because her current location is rented and the landlord is selling up. It’s so horribly unfair that hundreds of millions of strays around the world will never know real love. But I will keep fighting for them here in Crete, where so many cats face terrible lives on the street - battling traffic, rampant disease, hunger and abuse. I hope that one day governments and people around the world take much more interest in helping stray cats - so much more needs to be done: neutering, feeding programmes, general awareness and education, temporary shelters and free vet care
It is so shameful how many strays are treated. They are so nervous and often flinch or run away at the slightest move. Maria has seen it all - from stray cats poisoned and hit and kicked by people to even just intolerant tourists complaining about them or shooing them away. It’s really not acceptable for people to be so uncaring and callous towards animals, for whom every single day is a struggle to survive and battle against hunger, disease, fights, the weather and traffic. Even if you are not an animal lover and don’t want to directly help cats, the very least you can do is NOT HARM them! #straycat #rescuecat #noexcuseforanimalabuse

I’d love to have a permanent shelter where my cats are never at risk of being evicted. I have a plot of land that has been gifted to me, but I need to fence it and build a number of structures including: a quarantine area, vet area, kitchen and washing facilities, and more. Please, please help me to feed and treat the cats. I’m at breaking point between the cost of food and vet care and it’s spiralling. I have over 200 cats that are here at the shelter and so many require regular and emergency vet care, on top of the constant and huge food bill. Any donation will make a huge difference - if you’re able to give regularly that is even better. At the moment I owe the vets thousands of euros. I am so careful with money and use it very wisely, but over the last year donations have been way down and the cost of everything has been rising.
