Levi Rivaille | 32 | Cis Male | Mathematics Teacher
Born in Sina, Levi is the elder of two siblings. He had a younger sister named Isabel, and she was younger than him by three years. Levi’s family was of the middle class, and both Levi and Isabel enjoyed a quite comfortable life. Levi adored Isabel, and Isabel adored Levi as much. He loved both his parents as well, but to Levi, Isabel was the most important member of the family.
When Levi and Isabel were twelve and nine respectively, they were riding a carriage on the way home from the market in the middle of winter when their horse stepped on a patch of black ice and slipped, causing the carriage to overturn. In the accident, Levi lost both his parents and Isabel, while he himself barely escaped the incident with a broken arm and leg and a minor concussion. Having no immediate family, Levi was raised in an orphanage after. This gave birth to his rather cold personality; having lost the person he cared for the most, he was afraid to care again, lest he lose them. He was unapproachable, but to some of the younger kids in the orphanage, Levi was  notably kinder and less cold, going so far as to play with them when he wouldn’t with his peers. (He did become less colder as he grew older, but he smiled less and was less friendlier than he was before the accident.)
Levi found that maths was a source of comfort for him during the time he was coping with his loss; much like a writer finding comfort in his words, Levi found comfort in the systematic and orderly way mathematics worked. To him, it kept him occupied; kept his brain working on something else instead of constantly remembering the accident he had been involved in. Levi was bright for his age, and was very advanced in maths, winning a scholarship to major in that for university. He left the orphanage at 18, spending a few years pursuing a basic bachelor’s degree.
Levi came to work in the school simply because he needed money to pay for rent. What he didn’t expect was to actually enjoy the job; teaching was rewarding to Levi. Knowing he helped the younger generation, he felt like he was doing what he couldn’t do for Isabel: being a good elder figure.
Since then, Levi has been teaching in the school, no longer only for pay but for the experience.
Perhaps the first thing that sticks out from Levi’s personality is how unapproachable he is at first sight. Blunt, to the point, and definitely doesn’t go out of his way to be pleasant. While neither intending to be rude nor mean, he might come across as such.
He deals with his students accordingly. If your behavior in class is at least decent, he won’t snap at you as much. If your behavior in class is horrible, he will be more likely to snap at you when you fail to comprehend something.
He doesn’t give out punishments unjustly. He dislikes tardiness; homework must be completed in time, or you will be in detention with him after hours. But if you’re sick or there is important family matter, he’ll give extra time.
Levi is a caring person at heart, he just doesn’t like showing it. In love, Levi isn’t actively seeking; he gets lonely, but prefers not to settle down; at least, not yet. He’s best described as Jerk With A Heart Of Gold. He’s not completely expressionless, though. He does laugh and let loose— if you can get a couple of drinks into him. Levi doesn’t hold his liquor too well.
Last but not least, Levi is very, very neat, to the point where everyone thinks he’s got OCD. He doesn’t; he just has an ardent love for keeping things in order. He hates it when people try to tidy his stuff up for him; things have to be tidied up his way.
Levi is considering to settle down, to move out of his flat, into a house and live with a significant other. He wants to be able to love and trust someone without fearing that they would leave so suddenly.
Levi doesn’t plan to stop teaching for a while; he finds that he gets his need for social interaction through teaching and working with other teachers. His closest friends are his coworkers. Levi doesn’t know about children, but he’ll cross that bridge when it comes to it.
