Over the summer I was asked to help document five chrysalids on their journey to becoming butterflies. Naturally, I ushered them along with Pokémon evolution music and may have turned them feral by playing exotic rainforest atmos tracks as they slept.

Short film that I directed as part of my final year coursework at university, partly inspired by the above quote. The intention was to create a fantasy for young adult/teen audiences with dark themes such as death and lost souls.

Music video for Olivia Broadfield's Lost in You.
Created for our final second-year project, no brief. We tried to visually convey the feeling of being lost in something. An emotion, a person, an idea, a location.
We also decided to create a fairytale, storybook feeling to go with the sweet, mellow sound of the song, which on first listen appears to be a simple, innocent and sweet song about love. However, with a more careful listen, the lyrics dip in and out of hinting at something darker, and the 'story' of the song is never resolved. There is no happy ending.
Taking into account all of this, the music video is essentially about a girl reading her favourite book. She connects with the story emotionally and can see aspects of herself and her problems in the main character, and sees her as a role model; a feeling many of us can relate to. She becomes as lost in the story as Red herself is lost in her mysterious wolf-man. She loves him, but she is also scared by him. She loves him with such conviction one moment, but then doubts him and her own actions the next. Lost and confused in her own emotions, she dips between childhood and adulthood, safety and danger, love and hate.
