Do you still write Rivamika fic, or have you moved on to other stuff these days? I've really enjoyed the ones you have published, thanks so much for sharing them!

Thank you for reading them! I have not written fic since Negative Times Negative. I will not lie and say it is because I have been busy, even though I have been, since the real reason is that writing brings out the perfectionist monster in me, which sucks the joy out of the process. It becomes a mental block. Any tips for dealing with that?

Every now and then people delete their blogs, sadly, it happens all the time. Too many fics deleted even. Since not many are active lately it’s more noticeable, but is pretty usual on tumblr. If something happened, wasn’t a public matter, some just prefer IG.

Fair enough, as long as I did not miss some great fandom apocalypse and people just moved on to other things. Since I take pretty long breaks myself (but usually come back) I find deactivating a blog and deleting fics to be rather a strong statement. You are absolutely right, though, it does not have to be.

your coming back to writing RM would be one of the very few silver linings of this ending. i adored your writing, your take on these characters and their dynamic - like it's been years and 'claustrophobia' remains one of the rare fics my mind keeps returning to every once in a while, trying to imagine the directions it might've gone in; haunted by its incredible potential. all this to say - i hope you're doing well and your writing Levi and Mikasa would be a blessing and 1000% do them justice.

I'm sorry about 'Claustrophobia', kind anon. It was started around the same time the manga took a direction which I found a little odd and confusing (now we know why...) and I was hoping time would give some clarity. I keep saying I will get back to it but now I think it is far more likely I will try to get some closure with another postwar fic. Your words mean a lot to me!

After that SnK ending I feel I will need to come out of retirement to write a fic to heal myself and restore my perception of these characters to what they could and should have been. The manga started losing me after the time skip anyway so I don't know why I still care but I do, because of all that potential wasted. This is not how to tell a story. Endings are important because a story asks the reader to invest in it with the promise of a pay-off, not necessarily in the form of a happy ending or wish fulfilment but with certain motifs being explored competently and characters developed towards an outcome. That outcome needs to make sense and to round off the story, not just end it. This is the reader's expectation and reward. This is what SnK does not have. The story is finished but it was never completed from a narrative perspective, just patched in to a deux ex machina solution with tremendous character inconsistencies. In some ways this is worse than an unfinished story because it does not give itself the benefit of doubt - it retroactively cheapens or invalidates plot points that, left uncertain, would allow the reader to infer some meaning. Well, that meaning does not exist.
