"lying is generally a shitty thing to do"
and

I have moral OCD + I'm a compulsive liar (due to issues in childhood that made lying necessary) who's trying to recover and every day that I see those, "if you lie you're a bad person," things, I want to start killing people. These are detriments. I understand compulsive lying is bad, but when I was 6 years old, multiple people threatened to kill me and my family, I had to lie to protect myself and it became a habit at any sign of conflict. I think we need to understand context and nuance because some people are in fight-or-flight.
This is OCD AND OCspec saneism.
Compulsive (insert behavior) is part of the OCspec too.
First of all, I agree with you! Not everything is so black and white, even morality. Portraying it in such an oversimplified manner is so triggering for moral OCD.
Secondly, Iâm so sorry that happened to you. That sounds incredibly traumatic and Iâm really sorry you had to go through that. I hope youâre recovering well, anon. Healing is very difficult, especially with the added OCD factor, but youâre strong and I wish you all the best.
Honestly Ruben as a character fucks me up way more than Niall does. His only conception of love is through violence. He has only ever tried to be a provider - to a fault, but regardless - to protect the people he cares about. He fills the room but has never once in his life been small except within his father's abuse. He made himself big to thwart that vulnerability and it made him a killer. He could never get out of that trauma-inflicted place. Not once. Not ever.
Everything he did was in service of his inner child and the idealisation of 'true' masculinity - what his father wasn't. All of his pain leaking out of him all the time. Uncontrollable. Unhelpable. Everyone around him had long given up on him, especially Maura. Imagine being ten and assumed to be a dropkick already. His is an inevitable conclusion. Written in his trauma and the man he calls brother's dying breath.
And he gave all of himself in that final act of depravity. All of it. Every ounce of trust he had in the one person he thought hadn't given up on him. Every higher-order cognitive process shed like snakeskin. And he doesn't go down screaming like a child. It's a violation of his own inflicted in return. Hand cupped to mouth, breath for breath. On the same level in the gravedirt and blood.
The world broke him, he broke himself, then Niall broke him. Chipping fragments of him away till all that is left is a shrivelled, bellowing husk. A dying animal. The worst of any person's impulses made real.
He deserved better. He deserved therapy.
Shout out to folks with Pathological Lying Disorder/Mythomania!
