"There were a number of things you could have said that wouldâve let me know how old you are." He paused. "This academy isnât that small. Maybe we can just avoid each other until class."
"Iâm eighteen. Itâs not like itâs technically illegal.â She looked down at her feet as he suggested staying away from each other. âI donât want to avoid you,â She spoke in a whisper.
He let out a sigh of relied as she turned to go, but stopped short when he heard the door shut. âYou â you lied to me, Marilyn.â He put down the papers heâd been holding in his hands, and stuff his hands into his pockets. âYou told me you were in college.â
She chuckled a bit. "I never said that. I said I was thinking of majoring in English. You took that how you wanted to." She moved closer to him. "How was I supposed to know that you'd end up being my English teacher, Thomas? I can't see into the future."
The girl at the door startled him. Heâd just begun to clean up, ready to go home after a long day when she appeared. Things in the room were tense, but he knew they had to talk. âDid you need something?â
"Uh... No." She said, turning to leave. She stopped in her tracks and turned back around. She stepped into his classroom and shut the door behind her. "We need to talk about this, Thomas."
