Alan Webber, co-founder of Business Week, wrote that change is a math formula. Change happens when the cost of status quo is greater than the risk of change. C(SQ) > R(C).
10 things I remember from the 2015 edition of CANUX
1 - NASA designs interfaces for deep space exploration, meaning 8 to 48 minutes of communication delay between users and mission control. They also do deep water testing. And you thought you had a hard time doing user tests and designing with constraints? from Steve Hillenius 2 - Â All design is service design. from Peter Merholz
3 - If you design a global XP, it doesn’t make sense to have marketing, product, UX and AD on different teams. from Peter Merholz
4 - If you are not going to do the communication well, don’t event bother doing the research. from Leisa Reichelt
5 - Success is having an impact, not ticking a box. from Leisa Reichelt
6 - Big data doesn’t mean big wisdom. from Boon Sheridan
7 - Design for context. (That’s also what responsive design means.) from Derek Featherstone
8 -Â The memory of an experience matters more than the experience itself: UX testing can be improved and there are a lot of new academic techniques out there to help (that I never heard about before). from Carine Lallemand
9 - Test! Research! Observe users! Work with them! AND DON’T GIVE UP. from almost everybody
10 -Â Be bold, be yourself, do good work for good people. And use orange and a lot of Futura bold! from Aaron Draplin
Looks like I’m not the only one asking.
Can we stop using the term advertising, which is based on this model of polluting [content]? My particular peeve is pre-roll. I hate it. What is even worse is that I know the people who are making it know that I'm going to hate it. Why do I know that? Because they tell me how long I am going to have to endure it -- 30 seconds, 20 seconds, 15 seconds. You only have to watch this crap for another 10 seconds and then you are going to get to the content that you really wanted to see. That is a model of polluting content that is not sustainable.

No argument here: Jony Ive has produced some of the best industrial design in the history of consumer products. He’s done it by cutting out all the extraneous parts. By eliminating edges, by smoothing and streamlining. But what works beautifully for hardware does not work for software.

Mom, pop, this is what I do.
Oh, click bait.
Regarding the number of likes, shares and other social indicators, a lot of persons here want to be the most popular person in the room.
I don’t. Neither to be the most knowledgable, the most senior, the reference.
There is always people who knows things that you don’t. And that’s an opportunity to learn.
I don’t remember the name of the CEO beginning his board meetings with «  Tell me something I don’t know » - not the song.
I love to go to sleep overnight telling me that I am less dumb than the day before, because I’ve learn something new. Not telling me that I am the most popular.

Apple Watch, making you a better person.
“The Watch is Tim Cook’s product. And in the perfect Tim Cook way — subtle, understated, but incredibly powerful — he’s improving the world.”
This comment sumarize my though about this blog post, about the new necessisity of bloggin, being social, having a social media personna, and about the UX field in general. : “The paradox I perceive when reading your blog post is best summarized as, "the more someone talks about or writes about something, the more confident someone is that they know what they're talking about." Feeling confident does not entail the truth of the matter. You first need to develop a deeper understanding of the meaning of the word "empathy." You define empathy as "“the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes.” Your use of metaphore as a definition illustrates the extent to which you don't yet understand the meaning of the word.My intention here is to encourage you to continue this line of inquiry. As you develop a fuller understanding of "empathy," you will more fully come to understand yourself. I'll conclude with this...empathy is both an ability and a process. The process results in feeling how someone else feels in a specific situation, or under some set of circumstances. Empathy is really about feelings (or emotions). Prudence, like empathy, is both an ability and a process. However, prudence is really about thoughts. All the best!”
Why is everybody always so sure that it is the workers who are at fault, they need only quit complaining and get lists of tipps to getting things done.We should (also) consider some other real causes of burnout, not only devise therapeutic regimes to help us cope just a little longer. Why don't we ever focus on poor management (for instance a prevalence of sociopathic individuals in positions of authority)? This ideoloy of self-optimization tries to squeeze out even the last drip. And there are fairly few attempts to illuminate methods to improve the quality of management, plan projects with with real-world goals, reduce exploitive and manipulative practices. It is not always our fault if we do not burn but burn out.

John Zeratsky gives pointers on the importance of crafting those little bits of text in the UI design of software products.
Remember the "Seinfeld" episode in which Kramer impersonates the Moviefone guy? After realizing he cannot differentiate a touch tone "2" from a "3" from a "4" (and so on), Kramer resorts to asking: “Why don’t you just tell me what movie you want to see?”Â
Question.
Seriously. Ux portfolio. Not that I am looking for a new job, I love my W fellas. I just want to have a nice space to save and present my work.
I didn'y have found ONE ux portfolio who display wireframes. Only design students showcasing fake revamping of hypothetical google products : all graphic design, all sleek images and maybe one or two sketches at the bottom, to look cool. Do you know one ?Â
I know that design is part of Ux, we are a team yada yada yada.
But this is not what I do. I'll not showcase Rox or Terri's work as the centerpiece of my portfolio.
So guys, I'm working on building something. Who put WFs and research at the center.Â
Like, in every project I do.
Peace.
