I miss your photography! What have you been up to?

Thank you so much, kind stranger!! I'm actually working on my BFA thesis, so I'm keeping those works to myself until I have my show in May. It will also be a book! It's for sure the most developed body of work I've ever made, so I'm very excited to show it all together next year:):)

don't you ever feel that the youth culture style of photography is just done too much? like how long of you think you'll be doing this type of work? I feel like so many photographers are trying to be like olivia bee and petra coins. Do you think you would ever try contemporary work?

To an extent yes, I think there are a number of styles that are overdone. Personally, I make work from my heart and this is what comes out. You have to consider the artistic climate that people are creating their work in. It's easy to be influenced by your peers. If my work reads as "youth culture", its because I'm 21 and I make documentary style work about the way I see the world. My work won't look the same when I'm 30. Reducing my work to "youth culture" style is a bit annoying to be honest because there's a lot more behind what I create than "capturing youth" or whatever.

what kind of film cameras do you shoot with? i'm having trouble with mine and am looking into buying new!

I shoot *mostly* on a Minolta x-ga but also have a contax t2. All my new work was shot on a Mamiya rb67 though

what is your opinion on fabricating moments in photography? or in other words, trying to create an aesthetic similar famous photographers like nan golden, do you think its unfair? or does everything have to be a true/real moment

I don’t think that when you are looking at a work of art it necessarily has to come with the pretext of “real” or “fabricated”. People have this idea that photography is inherently un-biased but if 10 different photographers made a photograph of the same exact setup, they would all be different. What we choose to photograph and how we choose to photograph it is an opinion in itself. What I’m trying to say is, I don’t think that photographs that claim to be “real” or “true” are actually an accurate representation of reality. Everything photographer approaches a moment with a different perspective. If you are talking about my work specifically, I’m very much ok with “fabricating” moments. If you think about narrative films, it’s all “fabricated” but that doesn’t make the way it makes you feel any less real and tangible. I’m a huge nerd so I have a quote in my brain that applies here :) Picasso said “art is a lie that makes us realize the truth”

only film for the past two years or so! If I got a job where they wanted me to shoot digital I would but it hasn’t happened yet.
