to speak the truth i think i do enjoy the yandere genre just as much as the next guy, but teag, a masterpiece of an vn it is, completely ruined it for me. in teag, character's obsession with the player is inherently interwoven with an endlessly fascinating philosophical and meta themes, which makes the motivation of each character to keep us SUCH a joy to explore! i have no troubles believing in yanderes' (arguably, no one but nulla qualifies for this label, but that's another topic for the discussion) feelings and attraction to us, and because it's justified in such a unique and interesting way, in addition to the classic satisfaction of the fantasy of unconditional love and acceptance there is a lot of intellectual curiosity that the game provides. i will literally never shut up about how interesting its discussion of artist&art&audience relationships is, or how nicely the meta aspect is implemented (as opposed to the random 4th breaks that some stories choose instead). teag is incredible!

and then you return to itch.io, and every other yandere vn is just the same random sexy guy that Loves You A Lot Because Um. Yeahhh. You Are Soooo Special (But We Will NOT Give You Any Personality).

naturally, every manifestation of human creativity is sacred and art is inherently valuable, especially in this day and age, regardless of how "Good" it is; there is meaning and beauty in everything, and no one should ever be discouraged to create by any sort of criticism, especially my silly rants. but dear lord in heavens, this genre is so oversaturated and nauseatingly repetitive that i couldn't help but grew kind of repulsed by the very mention of it. i just can't look at that silly "well you were kind to him/did something mildly unconventional and he's insane so now he loves you forever and ever" justification anymore and not feel bored to death after all the cool things teag did with its yanderes; now that i know that good stoylines ARE possible in the yandere genre, going back feels physically painful. it would be nice to create my own yan vn one day to show my vision to the world, but for now, i intend to just bitch and whine about boring ass vns.
