“ [..] You are very beautiful, Mari. Then just as much as now. ”
john--hughes·:
“ Well, I don’t know. Just in case you’d want to show off some of the things you’ve learned. Ah, well. That’s when it was dancing without any rules or expectations. And.. wow. A long time ago.. Lint roller Steph. Yeah, I’m starting to remember her more and more. What happened with her husband? Has it just been her for a long time? Sadly I don’t think we have any single friends we can set her up with either. ”
“Ask me again in a few months and I might say yes. Mhm. A life time ago. Oh, to be young and beautiful again. He cheated on her with the nanny. She was just fresh out of college. The usual story. The divorce was six or seven years ago if I’m not mistaken. She’s been comforting herself with different men since then, so I’m certain she’ll manage without our help.”
john--hughes·:
“ Perhaps a little. I’d still like to see it sometime. What that is you’re doing. Maybe not.. with me actually participating. I think I’d make more of a fool out of myself than either of us would be comfortable with. Steph.. oh yeah, Steph. That Steph. I do remember her. And she is still not aware that I don’t and that that probably, most likely, won’t change anymore, either? Is she the.. does she still always carry around a lint roller? And obsessively lint roll her clothes? That was Steph, wasn’t it? ”
“John, are you asking me to give you a show? I doubt you would. You were always the better dancer out of the two of us. Yes. Lint roller Steph, that’s her. The one and only. She’s very well aware, but I think she’s not been doing a good job at accepting it. Her son’s a little older than Lance.”
john--hughes·:
“ Zumba classes? That sounds.. fun. A bit more energetic than book club. Probably fewer Margaitas as well, though. Anyone you know doing the class with you? Or meeting nice new people? ”
“It sounds ridiculous. It also looks ridiculous, but it’s good for body and soul. You should try it sometime. I’ll miss the Margaritas. But that’s about the only thing I’ll really miss. Steph talked me into it. You remember Steph, right? She still asks if you have a brother I could set her up with.”
john--hughes·:
“ Well. Yeah. You’re right. You are. Maybe it’ll turn out to be a blessing in disguise. Let’s try to make the most of it, Mari. [..] Have you been going to yoga again? ”
“Actually I have. I’ve signed also up for Zumba classes in the city not so long ago. They’re every Tuesday morning. The girl doing the class is wonderful and since I’m no longer part of the book club, I figured I have time to try out something new for once.”
john--hughes·:
“ I was thinking that, yeah. I will, I will. I’ll try to. [..] Hah. Like I rarely am you were meaning to say, I’m sure. That’s better though, isn’t it? I think it’ll survive one Sunday without me. ”
“Now that’s what you said. Much better, yeah. I think so, too. Who would've thought it'd take a snow storm for us to be able to spend a Sunday evening together again.”
john--hughes·:
“ [..] I’d hope we’ve raised him.. at least a little smarter than that. I’m not saying I think you’re wrong, but I’m clinging to hope he’d choose us over frostbites. There have been many humbling moments as a parent, but having frostbites chosen over you feels like a new low.. Yeah. I think they were too, honey. You’ll end up sweating and colder than before this way. Come here.. why don’t you take off those extra two for now and put them on when you’re actually starting to feel cold. ”
“Here’s to hoping. Maybe you check on him again in an hour or so. To be safe. [..] Fine. You’re right. As always. How are things at the office? Already missing you?”
john--hughes·:
“ Thanks, Mari. That’s perfect. Almost got this fire going as well.. there we go. Yeah, come on, baby.. That should do it. Well. Could have thought as much. It’s not that cold in the house yet, but he’ll see in a bit. He’ll probably change his mind then. Yeah, we’re looking at a cold night, I’m guessing. Aren’t you too warm right now, though? ”
“Hopefully, but you know Lance. He’d probably rather freeze to death than spend more time with us than necessary or admit he was wrong. A little. The last two cardigans were a bit too much, but I thought I’d rather be safe than sorry.”

“[..] Okay. I found two flashlights and some more candles in the basement. Only one of the two is actually working, so I left it with Lance. I asked him to join us, but he wants to stay in his room. As figured. He knows where we’re at in case he needs anything, but I’ve left two extra covers and candles at his room. I’ve also got us a blanket and a sweater for you to put on. They said it’ll be a while until the power’s back on.”
lance-hughes·:
“ Night. ”
“Night, honey.”
lance-hughes·:
“ So I’ll text once I know. ”
“Thank you.”
lance-hughes·:
“ I didn’t actually come to talk to you or Dad about it, I came to let you know. I’m 18. Last I checked that means you can’t let me do anything and I can do whatever the fuck I want. ”
“You’re 18, yes, but you’re our son and you’re still living under our roof. I just want to know where you’ll be and when we can expect you back. That is all.”
lance-hughes·:
“ Seems more like your style, that’s all. I’m not sure yet. ”
“Ouch. And when will you be sure? I can’t let you go if I don’t know where you’ll be going, who you’ll be going with and how long you’re going to be away for. Did you already talk with your Dad about it?”
lance-hughes·:
“ How about I write you an email with all the details then. ”
“If that’s how I get you to answer my questions, be my guest. How long are you planning to be away for?”
lance-hughes·:
“ You want a list? ”
“A few names would be nice, yes.”
lance-hughes·:
“ I mean.. we’re going away. On a trip. With a couple friends. ”
“I got that. That's-- good, I guess. Where to? What friends?”

“ I just dropped Bella off at home. But while I’m here, we’re going away for a bit in two weeks or something. Just to let you know. ”
“Hey, hey. Not so fast! What do you mean you’re going away?”
