Toying somewhere between love and abuse (…) Freshly disowned in some frozen devotion

A steady hand and heart to rely upon when my own faculties and sensibilities were strained. A gentleman in a time of rogues. Or so i thought then. Inhindsight not infallable.
Hey this isn't my fav scene but I remember I started reading qotd and marius described lestat and how beautiful he is and I laughed so hard and couldn't keep reading because it's lestat writing how he thinks marius describes him and I died
Lestat interviewing Marius:
Lestat: So you just spent awhile talking about Louis. What were you thinking about me at that time, prior to the concert?
Marius: That Louis was waiting for you.
Lestat: Ok, yes, but what about ME?
Marius: …
Lestat: …
Marius: …
Lestat: Well I’m just saying you were very descriptive about Louis and Gabrielle so I just want to keep your voice consistent. What did you think about me at the time?
Marius: That you were the damnedest creature.
Lestat: Really? You mean that?
Marius: Yes, a brat prince.
Lestat: Go on.
Marius: *sigh*
Lestat: *pouts*
Marius: Okay. Honestly you are such a child. -pauses- Face and form… The ice-blue eyes, darkening with laughter; the generous smile; the way the eyebrows came together in a boyish scowl; the sudden flares of high spirits and blasphemous humor.
Lestat: And?
Marius: Lestat!
Lestat: What? I just want the full story. Talk about my body.
Marius: *grumbles* Even the catlike poise of the body… So uncommon in a man of muscular build. Such strength, always such strength.
Lestat: Oooh that’s good stuff… *writes* You make me sound so cool.
Marius: …such irrepressible optimism. *groans*
Lestat: Okay now we can move on.

I’ve had soooooo many requests for Armand and Marius sitting in my inbox and finally drew it! The pose is inspired by SEVERAL Gaston Bussière paintings, he is a master of hugs- more specifically his paintings of Elsa and Lohengrin. So tender! I wanted to do some splendid looking clothing and did not have to stray far for inspiration. @amadeo-child-of-the-renaissance is an AMAZING costume designer this Amadeo was the reference. As for Marius, please admire tico_cosplay and her amazing portrayal. VC is such a small and talented community, I feel so lucky to take part! This is also a thank you to all of the amazing Armand rpers I’ve had the pleasure of writing with. You’re all so sweet and talented and bring so many fascinating images to life. <3

Okay I’m gonna come out and say it. This is really hard for me, and after some deep soul searching I’ve had to admit that Marius would definitely own a pair of crocs, because they’re ‘really comfortable’ and ‘practical for around the house’. It’s horrible yes, but with hot dad also sometimes comes just dad and I have to accept that.
What’s a guy like you do in a Popina like this?
Marius’s father hated that he would frequent the popinas on the edge of Rome. In the heart of the city these types of places were most frequently visited by slaves who had leave to do so and by the lower classes of working men and, ahem, ‘working women’. Being the bastard son of a respected senator Marius wasn’t denied access to the finer bath houses (and he enjoyed those spaces very much) but he also wasn’t warmly welcomed by the other patrons, either.
Here, in the popina that was the last thing travelers and traders saw on their way in to the proper borders of the city of Rome he stood out much less. A good place to refresh oneself and eat and drink something a bit cheaper than they’d find in the city, the popina had men and sometimes women from all over the world and so a blond-haired, blue-eyed giant didn’t stand out quite as much here in the relative diversity of patrons as he would in a more reputable establishment.
He wasn’t interested in drinking to excess or in the paid company of women, but here was the best place to have his first pick of the exotic spices to take home to their cook, or finely crafted jewelry or his favorite, scrolls with both real and fictional accounts of what was happening over seas or supposedly amung the gods.
While he was praised by his father’s friends for his fine collection of reading material on subjects of history and philosophy and even war these same men were unwilling to visit such an establishment, they would wait until the goods made their way to the respectable market and so he would always beat them to the best finds - and that was just fine by him.
And so there he was, a man of 20, in his red linen tunic and fine leather belt and sandals, reading through a scroll he had only recently purchased, a detailed account of Spartacus and his life and death. Though Spartacus had died 40 years before Marius was born he was one of Marius’s favorite topics to read about and of course the literature on him ranged from strictly factual to urban legend in quality, but what more could a man hope for after his death than that people would not only write about you but would spin epic stories of your life that mixed fact and fiction - usually in glowing terms?
Augustine wrinkled his nose. All the game left his face. “Disgusting. Don’t talk to me about sex again, it’s distasteful.” He had to force himself to add, in as playful of a voice as he could muster (which was not friendly at all) “And I hear vampires make for cold lovers. Not interested.” His voice was flat and uninviting, edged with rancid distaste.
Not that he didn’t indulge in the idea of pulling at Marius’ hair in bed, and like it, to a degree. But sex was the furthest thing in his mind at the moment, possibly at all moments. And hearing Marius’ invitation brought him back to the mindframe of his job. Of course Marius had asked, that’s what he’d be bought off for.
Augustine carefully climbed down the rocks into the high water, gasping as a wave smacked him in the chest. The fridged temperature was a blissful relief. He wrung out his clothes and put his hair up into a lazy bun. His earlier buzz sapped away, but he was calm at least and seemed to be enjoying himself quietly, dispite his soured mood. His own planet didn’t have oceans, so the trip was a rarity. “You’re.. joking? I can’t outrun you, sweetheart. I’m not.. exceptionally fast. I doubt anyone can outrun a vampire. It’s your signature strength.”
Marius was a little surprised at Augustine’s sudden shift in moods and his own tone turned serious in response. “I tend to agree with you, you know… I said nothing about sex, it does nothing for me, or for any of my kind as far as I know. I’d disagree however that ‘we’re all cold lovers, however… but you need not ever find out if you’re uninterested. I am not interested in forcing you into my chambers, Augustine… you will never have to let the thought of that trouble you, not while you’re with me.
Marius watched the alien climb down and stood at the edge of the water, observing him as he submerged himself in the cold water. “I’m not joking, but I am curious. But I won’t make you run, not here and now if you don’t want to, not on this trip that we made for you to enjoy yourself… I am sure there will be times during your tenure with me that I ask you to do things that you’re not excited about, but this trip… it’s for you… enjoy yourself.
He opened his mouth, then closed it, then opened it again. “You.. are suspiciously nice.” After a second’s hesitation August came back to shore and held out his arm for Marius. “Take me to your home. I’m exhausted. My head hurts. I’ll take a foot massage and a mango smoothie. I’ll also require a tour, of course, and.. how adverse would you be to having reanimated corpses wandering your home? I use them as personal guards. They’re quiet, the smell isn’t terrible, and they only occasionally lose body parts. I sow them well. They’re delightful company, obedient.”
He, just because they were at close enough proximity and he was told not to, pulled Marius’ hair, hard. Augustine stared him straight in the eye, unblinking, as if he hadn’t done anything. He didn’t even look as if he’d known that he pulled it. After growing up with four older brothers he’d just about mastered the art of misbehaving in plain sight without batting a lash. It had been his favorite way to torture his past bosses. “I changed my mind, no massage. I want soak in the bath instead.”
Marius laughed weakly at being categorized as suspiciously nice, “And you... are suspiciously unconcerned with making a good first impression on someone who will be controlling your access to luxuries during your stay, but here we are, hm?”
Marius took Augustine’s arm when offered, his own shirt still a bit damp as they headed up the beach toward the car. “You shall have all that you’ve asked for except the reanimated corpses, I am reserving my final decision on that but I think my staff would find that very... unsettling and I’d rather not upset them just y-”
When his hair was pulled he stopped in his tracks, tightening his grip on Augustine’s hair and turning to look at him sharply. “Is it your intention that I find some way to punish you? That I seek out ways to make you uncomfortable so that you regret your actions? What, precisely, are you hoping will be the outcome of your antics, Augustine? If you don’t wish to come stay with me we both know you could quite literally disappear. So either our arrangement works because of some level of mutual respect, or i can drive you back to the party and drop you off there... so which one is it? My home, or the party?”
Augustine wrinkled his nose. All the game left his face. “Disgusting. Don’t talk to me about sex again, it’s distasteful.” He had to force himself to add, in as playful of a voice as he could muster (which was not friendly at all) “And I hear vampires make for cold lovers. Augustine smiled, coy and curved with cruelty. His eyes matched his voice; amused and confident. “Oh, I’m worth millions.” He squeezed Marius’ cheeks in his warm hand, cocking his head to the side so their faces aligned. He had to stop himself from gripping any harder, but he felt each and every one of Marius’ teeth through chilled marble skin with a slow deliberate swipe of his thumb. “But Roel’s sure to cut you a good deal. We’re in another block of marital argument and Im being fantastically stubborn about our new sleeping arrangements. He’ll lower the price with a little haggling.”
Augustine dropped his hand and curled it in the grass. He took his sweet time to respond, like he was suddenly distracted by another conversation. Half the voices in his head had started throwing lots on the best way to skin a vampire, while the other half wanted to drink ocean water and were insistant on not shutting up about it.
“Is being an alien not enough for your tastes?” He pushed Marius’ head away with a finger, looking him up and down like he was guessing at what Marius would want out of him. “I do whatever you ask for, sweetheart. I won’t go drinking bleach for you but killing? Sure. Anything from being your body guard—which I’m sure you don’t need— to your personal serial killer. I’m available for it all. I’m your personal working body.” Then he added with a soft drawl. “I can be your pet too. I’m sure you’d like that.”
Marius remained still, allowing Constantine to touch his face. It didn’t bother him much, it was quite the experience to be touched by an alien in this way. When his jaw and teeth were no longer being actively molested by the creature below him he smirked, “Oh yes, I don’t think we’ll have any problem with the negotiation…” frankly Marius was a little surprised that Augustine allowed himself to be owned, bought and sold… but he supposed it was working out for him so why not.
Marius sat up and offered him a hand if he wanted it to sit up the rest of the way. “You’re being an alien is the only thing on that list I can’t get elsewhere so don’t over-sell yourself.”
Marius turned to look toward the opening in the topiaries and stood, waiting for Roel’s approach, not even glancing back down as he spoke, “If this goes well, maybe we’ll even take a trip to the beach so you can drink some ocean water…” He made no mention of the other chorus of voices, though obviously he would have heard them, too.
Marius spoke with Roel, negotiating a monthly rental agreement - giving Augustine a side-eye as they agreed that it could be terminated at any time should Marius become tired of him. Marius would return him once every month for a period of not more than 3 days for Augustine to perform whatever activities were legally required of him. Using the mind gift Marius was able to negotiate a very fair rate of only a couple thousand per month - and what was that to him? Besides, he might get tired of Augustine rather quickly after all. Better not to make a huge investment up front.
August kept his face bored as the negotiation was settled. He only glanced once at Roel to offer a ‘I have nothing to do with this’ look. Once everything was settled Roel fished a small pouch from his pocket and held it out to Marius. “To keep.. it under control.” He kissed August hard, holding him still by the throat and retreated with a nasty smile. “See you later, husband.”
August didn’t blink. He forced his breath to come easy and casual. He stared Roel down until he left the secluded garden room and disappeared into the party crowd. Then he spit out what had been pushed between his lips. “Take me to the beach.”
Marius took the item that was offered, nodding as if he understand though he waited for the man to be gone before opening the pouch and wrinkling his nose slightly.
There was a quiet laugh when Augustine insisted on going to the beach immediately. “Yes, we’ll go… But first explain this to me… Is it magical? How exactly is it supposed to keep you under control?”
August glanced at the pouch with a flicker of anxiety. The emotionles, couldnt care less about anything mask he usually wore began to crack. “No not..”
The voices in his head chirped in, leering, exuberated ‘its his daughter his daughter his daughter! Dead. Does it hurt August? Does it hurt to see her? Does it hurt not being able to eat her?’
His mouth soured into a line. “It isn’t magical. It’s just a corpse. I.. like it is all. I’d like to have it and he likes keeping from me. It’s just insentive to behave.”
Marius watched the expression change, which seemed like a good thing for a moment… U til he heard the voices and his brows drew together. He didn’t understand this being at all… But he wasn’t interested in blackmailing him, or letting that little twirp continue to do it either. Besides, it might buy him a little good will with this creature… So he approached the alien and held out the pouch, nodding toward it that Augustine should take it before turning back towards the street.
“come on, let’s go to the beach, if you’re still interested?”
“Im.. yeah,” He stared at the pouch for a long moment, like it was the only thing that existed in the universe and it agonized him to stand so close. “..Okay.”
He cupped the pouched carefully in his palms and held it flat to his chest. His face felt numb. He couldn’t remember how to move his feet. “Let’s go to the beach.” When he opened his hands the pouch was gone. He looked back to normal but everything inside him was strangly quiet. “Lead the way, sweetheart.”
Marius watched, observing what was certainly the most bizarre ward he had had in his 2000 years… but he had so many questions!
This really wasn’t turning out the way he had expected. He had planned to come here to put the fear of death into whoever had dared to slaughter that miserable lot of crooks who occasionally did work for him, but this… this was a much more interesting opportunity.
Marius nodded off in the direction of the street that ran along the gardens where a large black Mercedes SUV was running, a male driver in the front seat.
As they got closer to the car Marius rested his hand against the car door handle and looked seriously to Augustine, speaking clearly and slowly. “If you physically injure or psychologically scar any of my staff you will rue the day you crossed me. These are not the petty criminals that you killed this morning, these are my personal staff, do you understand?” His gaze was more icy than it had been in their earlier conversations, he was deadly serious.
As long as Augustine confirmed he would pull the door open for Augustine, but linger, bringing his hand up to Augustine’s cheek. “And if anyone so much as looks at you funny, Augustine, they’ll have me to answer to.”
With another nod that he’d said all he’d wanted to say he would wait for Augustine to enter the car and close it behind him before he walked around and climbed in behind the driver. “Take us to the beach, please.”
As the car pulled away Marius turned his full attention to the alien. “So… how old are you, Augustine?”
Augustine laughed, light and nasty. “Who the hell says ‘rue’ anymore? Relax sweetheart, I worked at a palace once. I know how to treat servants.” He patted Marius’ cheek condescendingly with a small stiff smile that simply oozed resentment and playfulness.
But all the fun he was having making half-hearted pokes at Marius’ person immediately vanished when Marius touched his cheek. August was on high guard again, eyes steady, face neutral and cold. “What a kind master,” he said flatly and got in the car.
He’d been inspecting the leather of the seat when Marius started asking him questions again. “I was a teenager when I visited your Egyptian pharaohs and ate from his hands, posing as a minor god with my friends so.. I’m sure you can do the math.” He lowered the window and stuck his face out, enjoying the push of wind against his closed eyes. “I liked the times of Egypt the best.. they were so gullible, and quick to worship. You know those hieroglyphics? Most of them are dick jokes from my planet.” He snickered, rather pleased with himself. “But.. the Romans were harder to fool and.. Mmm.. not the best in bed.”
Marius wasn’t going to stand outside the car and argue semantics with him though both the word ‘servants’ and ‘Master’ made his brows lift. Marius was watching Augustine enjoy the car ride - not unlike the last time he’d had a dog in the back - sniffing at the seat and sticking their head out the window.
“So you used to travel back and forth with ease? I’m not sure how familiar you are with the success of the Pharaohs but that only narrows your age to between 2 and 5 thousand years old… but more importantly, what can you tell me about the means of travel you used to move between the worlds? You said it was… magic? Can you elaborate on that in a way you think I would understand? If you’re keen to leave perhaps I can help you find what you need… though I suspect if you were eager to return that you’d have put your considerable talents to those ends - to your own benefit, rather than work for the mob.”
“Did they really last that long? I’m a little under three thousand. Young for my people, we live.. nine to eleven thousand usually. And yes, I traveled to earth just about any chance I got. Do you have any idea how many privileges you get on this planet for pretending to be some mannor of god? Nevermind the pampering, I was allowed to handpick what human I would eat! Hand pick.. god I miss the Aztecs.” He got lost in the memory for a moment and stuck his arm out the window, relaxing as the smell of the ocean trickled through the air.
“I can teleport. From here to..” in a dizzying moment he was sitting on the roof of the car, then he was sprawled back in the seat looking carsick. “Anywhere I want so long as I’ve been there before. But jumping planets is a little harder than that. The magic we use to do it.. is like your earth wormhole theory. Few naturally possess the ability to connect one part of the universe to another, but it can be reproduced in a bottle. And in fact, its about as common to get your hands on as candy at interplanetary markets, if you’re old enough. Which at a teenager I certainly was not.” He grinned. “The perks of theiving.. Unfortunately, earth doesn’t sell them. But there’s other ways to get between planets, you just have to.. be creative.”
Marius smiled gently, pleased when Augustine spoke more plainly rather than answering in riddles. He smirked slowly, “I have heard that there are some advantages to playing the role of a god, yes… however one must be careful. My maker was known as the ‘God of the Grove’ and so his clever followers trapped him for years so that they might have a God in residence, even if against his will. He, too, was able to choose who he ate - serving as judge, jury, and executioner for the wicked that were brought before him…”
Marius narrowed his eyes a little at the mention of the Aztecs who were known more for sacrificing virgins and the virtuous… but he didn’t want to nit pick on that just now.
When Augustine disappeared Marius was startled to look up and see the alien hand against the sunroof from outside the car. He nodded, only mostly following what was being described. “…I see. And is the acquisition of this something you want to get your hands on, Augustine? Or do you think you could be quite content here on Earth for another 6 thousand years? Honestly - no matter how fascinating the developments of mortals might be over the next 6 thousand years might be, I’d choose to travel to different worlds over staying here most days.”
As they pulled up to the beach Marius climbed out of the car and went around to open the door for Augustine if he hadn’t already done it himself. “Your salt water awaits…”
“I want off,” he murmured, barely above a whisper. He’d been stuck for two hundred years and was desperate to get off. He missed home— the valley villages and monsoons and winters so bitter fingers fell off on the spot. He missed the predators, the old wood taverns that never stopped running in the winter, and sleeping in a bed of furs. “When I get my hands on the way out of here I’ll take you touring. My village would love you, we only have stories about earth vampires. Unfortunately I’ll have to disappoint them. You skin isn’t made out of actual stone.”
He stepped out of the car with a snarky “such a gentleman” and knelt to unlace his roman sandals. “I believe we owe each other a trade.” Before Marius could answer he handed over his sandals like a prince dissmisivley tossing a servant something of little importance. He went straight for the beach, curling his toes in the cool sand as he walked. It’d been too long since he last took a beach trip. He reached the water’s edge and lifted up his robe, tying the long flaps against his waist with a hairtie. His white hair tumbled out of the loose braid it was in and haloed his face and shoulders like a fat cloud. Then he simply laid down, shuddering when the chilly tide crashed against his thighs.
“You never get sick right?”
Marius nodded slightly at Augustine’s words. When one could travel the galaxy being stuck on earth must be like being stuck in one state - or a small country anyway. “Well I’m sorry to disappoint them but it is difficult to live up to a legend, after all…”
Marius caught the sandals easily enough with one hand and set them on the floorboard of the back seat, removing his own shoes and setting them on the floorboard beside the sandals before removing his socks and tossing them to the far side of the floorboard and rolling up the bottom of his pants to his knees, removing his suit jacket and laying it across the back seat before heading out on to the beach to follow Augustine to the edge of the water, though he opted only to let the cold water come up to about his ankles for now.
“Not in the way mortals become sick. I can be dizzy, and disoriented, though.”
“Ah,” His voice came out lazy and drawled. For the first time it was easy to pick out his accent, the way his vowels were exaggerated and long. For a moment the lulling sound of waves collaping on the sand and the fizzing hiss of seawater filled the space between them. But then Augustine was right back to himself; gaurded neutral expression with a heavily observant gaze.
“So.. no flu no colds no.. pneumonia?” The tide rolled in high and he kicked up a fridged spray of water, hitting Marius smack across the chest. He smirked, amused and toothy, then disappeared and reappeared halfway down the beach with a muffled snort. He grinned, waving at Marius slowly, mockingly flirtatious. His body language just radiated the easy confidence that came with maliciousness. But he was on high alert, ready to receive or evade whatever backlash might come.
For now he was testing his limits with Marius. And a childish round at the beach was the perfect way to gage just how much he could get away with.
Marius was content to watch Augustine without constantly having to interfere or mess with him… it seemed Roel had kept him on a short leash, even the idea of keeping him on a “long leash” seemed absurd and insulting when it came to this creature who had known such freedom as to travel the universe.
Marius shook his head when he was questioned, “No… no flus, no colds, no pneumonia.” Marius paused in his lazy gait when the water hit his chest and his eyes shifted quickly to his companion. He smirked slightly when Augustine flashed down the beach - surely if he had intended to ‘escape’ he would have gone further than that. but this hinting at cat and mouse was making his fangs twitch and he was quick to give chase, he wanted to see what this creature could do. He had no need to prove himself, his pride wouldn’t be hurt if it turned out he couldn’t catch this creature after all so the stakes were low. It would be good for them to both know where they stood..
Marius moved very quickly, more quickly than the human eye would have been able to see, but it wasn’t out of the question that Augustine might have been able to avoid him, but if that was the case Marius would re-evaluate and chase after him again, a big grin on his face when he could be seen - he wasn’t angry, or looking to punish him, merely to play - it was so rare that he had the opportunity test his speed out with anyone else, after all.
The second the vampire’s figure blurred Augustine kicked up a cloud of dirt in front of himself to act as a sheild and moved out of the way. He may have poor eyesight— poor enough to match a human’s vision— but the advantage of being prey on his planet was his inate ability to detect a predator. He laughed, short and horse like he hadn’t done so in a long time. “A little slow for a vampire, arent you?” He gave Marius’ cheek a condensending pat, pulled on his blonde hair roughly, squeezed his jaw to test the strength of the bone, then teleported behind him. And, with a playful kick to his ass, he sent Marius head first into the shallow water.
“Oops,” he voice oozed pleasure.
In a blink he was sitting ontop of a cluster of rocks that stretched into the sea with his legs dangling over the side. His grin was wide, jittery with adrenaline.
Marius laughed slightly as the sand was kicked up, it was funny, this was a game and he was glad Augustine was laughing, too. He didn’t particularly want to frighten Augustine, not yet... he wanted this to be friendly, he wanted Augustine to be a willing participant in what he had planned and for now he wanted Augustine to be having a little fun while he used this as an opportunity to test the alien, to see how he moved - if he escaped and ran off well then, he would have been able to do that anyway. He had no interest in testing anyone he’d have to keep chained up.
He hadn’t had anyone dare to pat him on the cheek or pull his hair in a long time and truth be told he wasn’t thrilled about it, but this was just the two of them, no audience. He reached for Augustine’s wrist just as he teleported which caused him to miss and baffled him momentarily. Usually he could feel and hear if not see when someone was moving this close to him but he had never had anyone who could teleport and it was quite the experience and he was unprepared to brace himself for an ‘attack’ from behind and so his weight pitched forward toward the water. He was quick enough that he employed his powers and though he had shifted forward toward the water he didn’t land in it, but that only saved him for a second because before he was back up a wave broke over the short and smacked him in the head, washing over his shoulders as he lifted himself up, spitting salt water out of his mouth, and lucky for Augustine after a moment of brushing the sand from his hands he was grinning again, glancing at Augustine on the rocks, this time approaching more slowly, his brows lifting as he looked up at the snarky alien, “Let me suggest to you, Augustine, that you don’t pull my hair again... with the possible exception of the bedroom, should you ever choose to join me there.”
Marius stared up at him, brows lifting, “Come down, I would race you... if you’ll have it. But without your disappearing tricks - surely that must use up the little magic that you have, no?”

There was a request towards the community for Marius with Flowers. Tadaaaa! Share/reblog if you love Marius! Or flowers. Or VC in general.
I chose wisteria, orchids, lilies and roses for their symbolism of patience/longevity, sexuality, death and romance. Which sums up all Marius’ deliciousness.
