Tumblr Question
I’ve got a genuine soft spot for Tumblr. I like it here. It’s pretty much the first place my work went viral on a few years ago. But these days the engagement rate for anything I post is really low. I’m curious to know why. Maybe:
1. The novelty factor of online calligraphy has worn off. Everyone seems to be a calligrapher these days.
2. My content isn’t as interesting as it was. Digital calligraphy is a turn off.
3. Changes to Tumblr’s algorithms that mean less people see my content.
4. A general shift in the popularity of Tumblr.
5. I don’t interact here, so people aren’t liking what I post because I’m not following them and liking their output. In other words I’m not engaging so can’t expect engagement. That would be perfectly reasonable. There are many psychological reasons why I haven’t really ever engaged very much on any social media platforms.
6. Something else I’m missing due to profound cognitive/personality defects.
When my work went viral a few years ago and my profile became much higher I lost my nerve and became much more corporate and safe. This was because the huge demographic shift meant I was suddenly being followed by people aged 8-80 years old, from all walks of life all over the world (seriously, nuns, bishops, clerics, little old ladies, a pet shop in Iran - yes, a pet shop in Iran) and my more silly, jokey, sweary content didn’t seem very appropriate. Is that it?
I’d appreciate any input on this matter, I won’t be offended at all. I’m just keen to learn and change what I put out if I feel it is necessary.
What would be interesting to see here?

Digital calligraphy is just something that eliminates the tradition factor. Calligraphy is Oldschool. Any other forms might be artistic approaches but... I like calligraphy for its oldschoolness :) cheers 🥂
