" I saw what happened, and I have to say it was very impressive. " impressive in how utterly embarrassing it had been.

evangeline hated weakness, especially within herself and in front of others. fire blended with celestial magic could be a dangerous flame, one that burned deeper and brighter than an ordinary match. the wound from the flame was upon her palm, and she did not accept the healing magic and touch without feeling as if it was adding insult to injury. " discovering how bad a burn can feel does build resistance, i was obviously going for the burn and crop method. removing my skin so it would grow back thicker. " a dry sarcasm to her tone as she didn't want to give too much vulnerability away.

she was tired of the training grounds, tired of everyone crowding the place and using up all the space she wished to take up for herself. it meant she was busying herself with other tasks… such as playing with the wax seals someone had packed in their stationary as she'd never had the patience for them before. with the affinity of ice, it was no surprise sitara didn't excel with fire. " how does anyone have the patience to make these pretty when they send letters ? " asks she in an annoyed tone, setting down the materials in her hands and looking up towards her sister.

a smile twinges across her lips and a soft bloom of affection flared in her heart, there was nothing quite like her sisters to make her feel needed. her voice is deadpan as tasks like this is where she excels. ❛ it is simple sister, it only takes a delicate hand. ❜ fire is an extension of herself, a dangerous spark that could burn all that crossed her path and made melting wax as easy as breathing. appearances were made important by the born affinity of illusions and glamours, with a wave of her hand, she transforms the wax that sitara worked on into a perfect court of eryndor seal. evangeline winks and her lips are curved into a smirk. ❛ we all have our strengths. i won't tell if you don't. ❜

" the queen sighs softly , disappointment showing on her features at her sister's quite flippant attitude . two of her sisters were to compete in the games , but it is obvious someone is more than willing to take out the competition and those closest to them . saranya had been keeping a proper headcount of he siblings since that night and she'd be damned before anything happened to them , even if they wee daring to be as brash as evangeline was . " there are too many possible theories , a fellow competitor , or someone against the nobility or simply someone stirring chaos ? i cannot say yet . " which was frustrating that nothing concrete had yet come from her own spymaster and she figured the other monarchs felt the same , especially the queen and king consort of aurelion .

guilt seeps in with the disappointment that is on her big sister's and queen's features, it is such a grand feeling of discomfort that it is easier to suspect that saranya's power of empathy is at work than to acknowledge that any wrong doing came from her words and actions. ❛ do you not believe that i offer my sorrows and prayers sincerely? i've never been the type to shed a tear unless any true harm came to my sisters. ❜ evangeline wanted to win the games for the court of eryndor as she wanted the house of nymerion to wear the crown, desiring a rise to power for her sister and she was happy in her role as a dark horse, wanting all the perks of ruling but none of the obligations. ❛ i reckon house aurelis is at the root of the disappearances, they know me and sitara have come from their crown and so they've stalled and trapped us here for their own gain, if it was for true protection, we'd be a lot safer at the emberfall castle among our own soldiers and kind.. that or they're keeping us because they're looking to pin the blame on us. these other royals are not our friends. ❜ she will quietly lay a flower for the fae that are lost from their court but she'd rather no one know of the soft spot she kept hidden.

"Wha—Evangeline!" Her eyes had widened at her younger sister's words. Her sisters were bright and bold, much like the fires that burn in their kingdom's forges. Fire that could bring warmth, that could mold anything to something new and vibrant, that could light the way in the dark. But fire could also be scalding, hurting anyone and anything in its path, completely ridding the world of whatever is in its path. Her sisters were fire through and through. Sighing, the elder princess shook her head. "I do not know," Nurbanu says softly. "I've been trying to think of a few, yet... I've been struggling." Part of it was because she hated thinking about how disastrous this all has been. The other part was how stir-crazy she was going being forced to stay in the palace. She wished so much she could be out, to visit all the libraries, archives, museums, and meet as many people of Aurelia as possible. Learning about them, befriending them, and finding a joy in during this time. It was impossible now. "At least you and our sister will live to see another day." Her words were pointed and her disdain for the games crystal clear. There were, at least, some good in all of this. "Perhaps there won't be any championship after all."

❛ fae live and die.. it is the circle of things. if we are truly in danger, i don't see how trapping us in the city where the abductions are happening is any help. that is unless they believe the blood is on our hands. ❜ which is an insult within itself, if evangeline were too be trapped anywhere, she'd rather it be within her chambers at castle eryndor within emberfall surrounded by her magnificent paintings, rare stones and jewels and being treated like the royal she is instead of a suspected criminal. popping a grape until her mouth, at least they were being fed well, the house of aurelis were known for their bountiful harvest and if she is to be a trapped bird that she will be one drunk on nectar and honey. secretly, she believed the court of aurelion were at the heart of this, too devasted to see their reigning power be overthrown so they sabotaged the games as they knew court of eryndor were capable of taking away their throne. ❛ we would have lived to see another day regardless of this stalemate or do you doubt in our power?❜ a smirk dressed her lips, her words were more tease than barbed until the next words to fall out of her sisters lips. ❛ watch your words, we are to win and we are to rule. ❜ being made to wait, to bid her time only made her feel more wound up, more restless and more lethal. a violence was building within her.

✧˚ · . ─── Esai had tried to use this time, with each court and royal stuck within the palace, to his advantage. The games were often a prosperous place for him to work his magic - never as a competitor - but one who worked the crowd for the advantage of Aurelion's crown. Esai never garnered much interest for the genuine sport of it all but as more disappeared it only further provoked the wonderance of why rather than the who when it came to blame and responsibility. He cared little for who embodied the opinion and reasoning of their pursuits, but it seemed they did not intend to stop until each court was pulled apart to the point of collapse and undoing. This was something he should have seen coming - and it annoyed Esai greatly that it had snowballed to such catastrophe already. He nodded as another approached, feigning concern as he danced around the topic many had already exhausted, " Good evening - are we to talk in circles with trivial small talk of empty woes or are you to tell me how you really feel ? " Esai smiled then, the action meant to be somewhat ingratiating in comparison to the charged candor of his words.

Evangeline felt like a trapped bird, she had always been able to travel wherever she desired and it's made her quite spoiled as a result. There were certain advantages to being royal, to being the spare and not the heir and it's allowed her to satisfy every passing whim and desire, so being held in the palace that is not her own caused a source of vexation that she had no choice but to swallow down and smile through. She entered the games because she wanted blood to spill, for all to see the viciousness and skilled warriors that Eryndor produced and she wanted Eryndor to have the crown at the end of the games. She heard Aurelion were known for their vineyards and beautiful sunsets on the flat horizon, so if she was to be trapped, she would certainly enjoy the view. Finding a pitcher of red wine, she found a balcony solemnly travelled too and hitching her skirt, she purchased herself on the ledge and kicked off her pinching heels. She was a few glasses deep when Esai found her, the back of her head rested against the column and her throat was exposed. A smile hitched upon her lips at his words and the irony of her being scolded by her sisters for dancing too close to revealing how little she cared for the cold body of others. " my sisters don't take too kindly to being cold to the news of death and dismay but if you ask me, fae are born and die every day. In between the eternal sleep, it's just borrowed time. how do you feel? "

" prayers and sorrows, indeed," vespera agrees softly. her tone is perhaps more genuine than the other's, but it's certainly calculated. people are missing, and the vaelorian lady can recognize that that's certainly not good, but ... she's indefinitely to stay at a royal court? with every royal of their realm? in close quarters? with rising tensions? vespera can practically taste the opportunity. shaking her head as if warding off terrible images, her gaze falls to the princess's pendant. she's unfamiliar with most of the nymerion royals, but from her observations since their arrival, vespera thinks this might be princess evangeline. "your highness, i only wish i had a valuable insight to share, but i've been spared the torment of witnessing anything personally. one hand reaches to lean lightly on the nearest wall. "personally, though... i do find it intriguing that it seems the competitors are the ones directly impacted. this person or people must be against the trials or... or eliminating their competition, perhaps?"

evangeline preferred her own chambers to sleep within, surrounded by all her jewels, trinkets and magnificent paintings that decorated each wall. a few dead competitors was no reason to panic, it didn't mean war was at their doorsteps and the celestial light would leave them. " the killer must be a sore loser. " faint vexation in her sardonic tone, it was more amusing when they left her court alone. she believed herself untouchable, she was skilled with the blade and never backed down from a fight. " i dare them to try to attack me. " fire lit in her violet hues, she was hellbent on the court of eryndor winning as many games as possible. evangeline's hand fell to the hilt of the sword that she kept attached to her hip at all times, it was forged with starbane and a small cluster of garnets decorated the hilt. the sun had begun to set over the city of aureth, the rust and crimson of the setting set lit the fields that surrounded them in a golden hour.
