He feels the shift in the air that arrives moments before the presence of one of his own - furthermore, the air of one of his own siblings had always been difficult to miss. Crixus had spent centuries determining which of his sisters were near by the underlying scent they'd chosen as their own and though she offers no greeting, he expects she has plenty to say. "rats are smarter," he offers bluntly, "at least they'd have run at the first sign of murderous undead. The fae would rather watch in wait to see which of their loved ones is slaughtered next or treat our presence here as some sort of... Social experiment."

vira is far less bearable here in this fae infested court, missing her kingdom and wishing to just finish the task they are here to complete and get home. unlike some of their other travel companions, vira had no interest in these fae. still considered young amongst her family, but she is far from a coddled baby. she expects her older brother lacks surprise in how she begins their conversation – which is why she snorts when he replies. " true. " she hadn't found a singular fae with intelligence yet, but she'd also been avoiding most of them. " and think us to be liars. as if we care about their lands when we have our own. " the rant rolls from her lisp with ease, vira thankful she finally has a place to offer them.

damian found the fae to be silly little amusing creatures. he had seen them before, observed them from afar in his past. but he had never been so close and for so long. in truth he found them fascinating, the way one would with a child or an animal. their great games amused him and their scent? well, it made his mouth water and he wanted to experience them to the fullest extent while they were here. though he should have been focusing on his role for the queen, the rebellion and these mysterious deaths that were blamed on them in whispers. still, he could have his own fun and still do his duty for the queen. " going stir crazy, princess? " he asked as he strode into the room. he had gone to no trouble to hide his scent or presence when he approached her room. " I do not have a job for you. " he could have dangled it over her, but he decided to be merciful. " though if you ask nicely, I may make sure one of the next ones go to you. "

vira turned her back on so very few creatures — but she knew if damian wished to test her skills he didn't need her back to do so. the princess turns to face her former mentor, arms still crossed, hip cocked. she eyes him with a bored expression, his attempt to rile her up settling in her bones before she stamps it out in a refusal to give him the satisfaction. always trying to rile her up, and it works too well, but he'll have to try harder than that. " it's boring here, i wish to hunt. " and she couldn't exactly get those urges out when they were attempting to play nice with the fae and not seem like blood thirsty monsters. she was under too many watchful eyes – that was the maddening part. his needling earns a groan, " when have i ever begged you, damian ? " if she had, vira had blocked it from memory with utter denial.

In all honesty, Wren is surprised she held back her curiosity as long as she did, considering the very nature of their guests. Still, she knows that if civilians are as tense as they are, it is obvious that the royals will be three times as tense, so she has tried her best to keep away from the vampires for Lazarus peace of mind… Or at least she had, until now. If asked, though, she would claim that it isn’t her fault, for the vampire princess is dressed in what clearly is a combat outfit so what else can she do but offer to spar? It is the polite thing to do, and Wren has never been anything but polite to most.

“You can, indeed!” She responds with a radiant smile, hands clasped behind her back as her eyes twinkle with mischief. “I was wondering if you would be interested in a spar, milady. I have yet to see your kind in action, and I would love to see what I possibly must go against, since I am a competitor in the games and we seem to be the rebels' chosen prey.”

most of the fae are hesitant to approach them, uncertain if they believe the tales spun by lips of foreign enemies they didn't know about until recent. vira finds quite a bit of amusement in such long lived creatures thinking they were the only species to exist in this realm, the hubris in such stance made her cackle in many instances. and then… then there were the fae who were curious, the ones who thought she might be friendly. it was disgusting, and a true test of vira's self control to not immediately flash her fangs and walk away from them.

the excitement is a turn off, but vira remains composed and simply glances upon the other with a raised brow. " we're faster than you, it wouldn't be a fair fight without your affinities and i have no interest in testing out my ability to be fireproof, or whatever you fae possess. " or give a fae a chance to test out their abilities on her like some guinea pig.

" yes, it's exactly what you think it is. " vira shares when she feels someone hovering nearby. vira's nose scented them far sooner than their steps announced them, but she only spoke when the other seemed to linger. lounged in a chair sitting beneath a setting sun, the princess absolutely had a goblet of blood in her hand that she was enjoying. not being able to hunt as she pleased meant the creature inside of her was less satiated, it required drinking more often and vira decided to do so publicly in order to perhaps scare more from thinking she to be friendly.

" clearly , such power they supposedly have and yet they could not use it against the rebels ... " valeria had not decided if that spoke worse of the fae or better of those that conspired against their crown , conspired against their mother and queen . she could only hope that by the time their hunters found them , that they wouldn't have to be here overly long and that further negotiations between them and the leaders of the courts would not go one for too long . the eldest did not share the same sentiments as her sister's twin much preferred to return to valmore at the nearest possible time . she felt no kinship with the fae and doubted that would change . " monsters draped in skin that could easily fool them if they are not careful . i'm certain they will soon let our guard down and well ... that may be to their detriment . " whether it was physically or politically , she couldn't say but she did not mind either . " exaggerate it to the fullest extent , swipe your tongue over your fang after downing the finest glass of blood right in view of them all . i'm certain it will send the message desired . though we may be in their lands, we hold control and sway . " the princess had already checked in with their trackers and hunters , but so far no progress had been made on catching their rebels . " i expect results soon and i hope to be part of making a clear example of what happens when someone crosses us and thinks they can get an upper hand . "

" because they're too slow. " she had to measure her own speed around these fae lest she give one a heart attack by flash appearing too close and be accused of being a poor guest. vira did actually care what their mother wanted of them, being tasked with behaving was important to her despite being exhausting. vira wondered if her siblings were being more social than her, some being far better at such things than others. all the princess can hope for is a speedy mission, a clean eradication, and a smooth sail home. " they make far too easy targets. i can see why the rebels enjoy them " prey behavior, and you couldn't convince vira they were acting any other way. " and they look at my lips as if they can sense fangs. like it'll make them feel better if they can identify us like some sort of animal in the wild. " she chuckles a bit at the suggestion, though. " it would do well to keep them from thinking i am to be their next friend. " admits she. restless, eager, vira was not proper company to be in unless you were her family, perhaps a few select others. her grin widens, devious, evil, far too pleased. she loved when her siblings were violent. " oh i cannot wait. i expect to be involved, it's the only reason i've come along. "

it was likely against jesinia's better judgement to be walking alone anywhere in the castle , but a patient had needed her and she had not the time to wait for a guard or an assistant . luckily her haste had helped the patient and lessened their condition , but alas it meant she was walking the grounds by herself after . the healer stops at his force , gripping at her bag as a nervous habit . " ah , yes well , i had a patient that needed treatment rather quickly ... i forgot to bring someone along . " she knew there were risks , but the risks to her patient far outweighed those to herself , " indeed , but hopefully our guests makes those who would wish us harm rethink their actions . " she looks to the sword he carries on his hip , " i see you are walking alone as well . "

nik had a sliver of care for those out and about alone, but also stood to reason that it was their choice to make. those not of his court ? he had no room to say a thing. even still, he knows that speaking to another traveling alone might at least help, despite being of different origins, it was the proper thing to do. " then i hope you wont mind me joining you. " if she told him to piss off, well, nik would actually listen. he'd not really been accused of being a gentleman, but the lord was raised to at least try. " the attacks have seemed to stop, but you would know that better than i. " picking up on the patient comment, he assumed that meant she was a healer. nik flashes a grin when she makes her own observation, hand moving to rest on the pommel of his sword. " that i am, but i'm rather quick with a blade. "

Pressing her lips together to hold back a smile, Violante shrugs, eyes wandering away from Nik in consideration. Where her curiosity based on any other aspect of the vampiric physique, she might have already tried to rope him into her shenanigans, but even curious as she is— Violante is careful of the safety of those she cares for, and her fellow curious mind is counted amongst those numbers. She is always more than happy to risk herself, but that is because she makes her choices fully informed of the risks and still deems them worthy to be undertaken.

“In this case, I think I will leave the choice in your hands,” she admits, eyes meeting his as she offers another shrug and bites her lower lip nervously. It’s a habit by this point, and one she doesn’t dissuade because it works well enough as a grounding method when she gets too into her head. “My aim is to discover what it feels to be bitten by a vampire, as well as the effect of our kind’s blood on them. Admittedly, rather risky, but logic says that they must be able to feed without killing. And, well— considering the state of the bodies that have been found, it is clear feeding was involved in the victims' demise, so I aim to understand more on the matter.”

nik doesn't need to look at violante to know where she's going with this, but he does anyway. there's no stopping her mind when set to something, determination one of her finer qualities as well as most taxing for those around her. in truth, he can't muster much worry when she's always come out just fine in the end and satiated her thirst for answers. besides, she shares them with him – and nik's curiosity rivaled her own at times.

a chuckle when she answers, " if i'm around when you find a willing participant, you may rope me in. " as if it's a favor to her and not his own interest. nik's gaze twinkles with mischief, he knows exactly how he's phrased it and how it could be taken. nik can tell vi is a bit nervous, which is fairly standard when there is a measure of danger involved. it's why he doesn;t overly worry for her, she at least has some sense. " it's supposed to be euphoric, according to the rumors. " whether that meant for the vampire or the bitten he wasn't too sure. " yes, it stands to reason that there is some level of enjoyment if they weren't able to stop themselves. "

nik wasn't able to score time on the training fields, spaces packed with every competitor out there attempting to maintain their skills and those fearful of attack. and so he'd selected a space in a courtyard near the library and chose to slice at the air around him. it did enough to keep his muscles toned while not fighting for space where he didn't feel like it. when steps approach, the scholar is quick to tuck his sword back into its sheath after completing a nice arc. " the fields are full, this space seemed appropriate, but i'll move elsehwere if you were hoping to relax sans sharp objects. "

the queen had made it a priority, no matter how high or low the status of her subjects , to know the names and positions in which they found themselves . there were several scholars that worked under violante . her memory was quite good and though she never much talked to the lord before her , still she remembered his name . saranya offers a pleased smile , " i appreciate your candor , my lord . in my reign already there have been those that have flowered their words simply to please me , thinking that it will get them somewhere . but i can sniff out when one is being disingenuous with me . " it was those kind of people that the queen had ensured were not by her side in her inner circle , for she would rather have the harsh truth than pretty lies . it had meant a shakeup for some who had long since held positions of importance , now no longer . her main tutor had long since passed but she knew that he had tutored some of her siblings and well it seemed they had turned out well enough . the starborn tilts her head as it falls upon the necklace he speaks of , she gently picks it up and observes the way the gem shines in the light . " tell me then , what about it captivates you ? and who would you buy it for , yourself or ? "

spending time in the castle meant that nikolai was more exposed to the royals than most others, even nobles, but by no means did he take it to mean that he would be on a first name basis with the queen or her siblings. tutoring some of them granted him that ability, but it did not extend to the ruling monarch herself. nik didn't put on a show before the queen either, acting as he would around any royal – behaved, semi gentlemanly, but a bit of a jester. " that is because many will do anything to gain favor of a queen, it does go quite a ways in our circles. " admits he, honesty something he's been riddled with since youth. nik may be flowery and twist his words in plenty of instances, here he felt no need to do so just so the queen would like him – perhaps a bit too cocky in thinking she would already. " i'm glad to hear you have a proper detector about yourself. " adds the scholar. he didn't assume she lacked one, but it was still something worth complimenting. nik watches as the queen reaches for the necklace he mentioned, it could be colored glass for all he knows, but the vibrancy is still worth admiring. " that color, the depths of it, is one of my favorites. " a shrug, because while true it also feels irrelevant. " but i have no soul to buy it for, nor have i been fond of necklaces myself. "

"must be nice," he snorts out in some half sentimental grunt. Given, Crixus had spent his life seeking out creatures in the silence, hunting down those that sought to disappear, he'd never much found solace in the black hollow of quiet. And yet it's still the solitude of this part of the castle he's sought out - a vantage point, to better understand the land his kind tears through mercilessly. "what do you see?" he gestures roughly towards the area beyond, "out there, among the others."

taerin grins, a catlike expression on her lips that quickly morphs into one seeming to only be a pleasantry. she hears her father's words in her head, the begging to not speak to a vampire, but the young fae knows she's found just that. they smelled different than most fae, a hint of something she couldn't detail mixed with the metallic taste of copper. it's not fear that riddles her spine at the sight of one either. " it can be. " she states. observing from afar was one of her hobbies, one she didn't often share with others but at his prompting the young lady can't help but feel the need to show off. her gaze leaves the vampire and returns to the courtyard. " people attempting to continue on with their days like there isn't an entire group of vampires walking amongst us, claiming to help against those that are apparently picking competitors off like candy. " she chose an easy one to start.

taerin had a skill at finding secluded places that overlooked rather busy ones. this balcony attached to a sitting room overlooked the north gardens – ones filled with fruit trees and other plants that attracted plenty of people to them. as the lady pours her cup of tea she can all but feel the approach of another – taerin doesn't even look up when steps get closer. " i have enough tea for two, if you wanted to join me. " it's always a mix on if she's going to be social or not, but tae realizes she needs to work on that in order to maintain the appearance she wishes to.

the high lord's daughter knows him far too well , understanding easily how her words affect him and how even the smallest of expression changes meant that her words were affecting him. and how could they not ? calyx adored and loved her and she had barely passed half a century of life as of yet and he wished to ensure that she lived for many , many more . she pushes at his buttons , wishing to pull a reaction from him and he falls easily into her trap as a result . she knew how to affect him and yet he would not retaliate for she had his wrapped around her finger and he would do anything for her . " and when i lock you in your rooms afterwards ? will you find that fun ? " he quirks an eyebrow with his threat , though it would sound stern in truth it lacks that in his tone . the cinderborn shakes his head in exasperation at her but he cannot be truly angry with her. " you know my blood pressure is already high and your father has already scolded me a few times to manage it better ... and yet here you go pushing me . " still he smiles at her , " i know you are for you have a mind that is even better than my own , while i worry , i know i must put trust in you to also keep yourself safe , my darling . "

taerin isn't going to promise to stay away from the vampires, but she will potentially offer that she won't actively seek them out. there's nothing she can do if one finds her – and she won't pass up such an opportunity either. toying with her father on such an easy subject is something only a daughter could do, she believed. tae was too naive to realize she should stop at a certain point, but lucky enough not to have crossed it yet. perhaps it was intuitive, years of pushing limits taught here how to naturally not cross them. she doesn't rise for the bait he offers either, but does smirk. " i won't insult you by saying you wouldn't, but i will remind you that i'd be miserable and you would feel guilty. " was she being naive again or bold ? perhaps both. a laugh twinkles from her lips. tae toying with her skirts a bit more. " it's my job, my sworn duty as your daughter. " the grin on her lips is beyond mischievous at this point, she's not surprised either that her father lectures on something she makes worse. " i won't go finding a vampire, but i won't run from them either like some scared little faeling. " she relents the game, but states her intention with a seriousness that remains light. " i promise i will try to stay safe, and i won't go out at night foolishly. " to find trouble, for once.

save for the solitude of one's rooms , it would be hard to truly find a place of solace in the castle . with the vampires and their retinue now as honored guests, the capital of aureth was near filled to the brim . in many ways it made it easier and harder to have her spies listening in and trying to keep anonymityto ensure that whatever they heard would be the truth . she was nervous to be alone with one of the vampires though she couldn't say there wasn't curiosity there as well , especially since it seemed their mental affinities were not as effective against them . still she supposed it was better that it was another fae she had run into alone in the halls , hiding away rather than a vampire . " the castle feels even more crowded with our new guests , truthfully i am more relieved that i ran into you instead of them . are you hiding from everyone or our new fanged friends ? "

sitara has been here long enough to learn who the important players are in each circle, to assume who is of substance and who she wishes to never cross. the lady who approached is one she didn't classify as useless, even if she had no idea what the other did. perhaps a noble of value, or simply a friend, which was enough to make the princess curious. she might not be able to determine who the other was without introduction, but the air around a fae could be quite telling. it's why sitara doesn't immediately leave or find a way out of this conversation, curiosity in her bones for who this fae was. " i believe you would be amongst very few to be thankful to run into me. " she says with a very light amusement. " i am hiding from my siblings, lest they call me a bore and try to cheer me up when i wish to brood. " admits she, not finding it improper information to offer at present.

sometimes they were like polar opposites. truly like their elements in personality. esmeray all fire and passion, sitara all ice and collectedness. but yet it worked. esmeray adored all her siblings, but sitara was one she truly loved the most. who she wrote to all the time on her travels. the one whose arms she had been looking forward to wrapping around her. esmeray returns the hug, deeper this time. " I really hope you haven't been having no fun since I last saw you. " she teased. but when tensions were so high, her sister truly did deserve not to worry. for just a moment. " put on something inconspicuous. we're going outside the palace. "

sitara isn't known to be a warm heart by many, but her siblings saw a side to the princess many might think to be an act. it only went to show how very few people knew the real sitara. starborn princess, warrior, frost queen… she was accused of many things by those who didn't know her. sitara wanted it this way, which is why having esmeray back was such a relief. it meant yet another person she loved and could be herself around was back in her orbit. " oh, i have plenty of fun, just not in obvious ways. " because her methods may not be the most popular either. " inconspicuous ? are you asking me to cover up fully or just toss on a cloak ? " both styles being very similar amongst the sisters in how little fabric they preferred.

with the games on hold , the gates to the city locked , and the portals effectively sealed , sora was left to his own devices. and unlike his home , the realm offered little in the way of entertainment , amusement for when his days turned lacking. though the arrival of the thought to be extinct species offered some reprieve , there were only so many of them to hold his attention. and in the wake of his restlessness , he had opted for exploring the palace. as if it were his own , or that of a playing field all for him.

the hallway was of nothing special , though sora found himself walking down it anyway. perhaps it would lead to something more enjoyable than the continued yapping of nobles from where he'd come. all wanted to seem of importance , to offer some tidbit of information to the conversation , even if it held no substance. he'd found it all quite drab really.

❝ is it now ? ❞ his tone held an ounce of amusement , given how she had shown herself yet. but when she stepped out from her hiding place , he grinned widely. leave it to his sister to go claiming entire hallways. ❝ are you hiding out , sita ? scared of the big , bad vampires ? ❞ he teased further as he approached , hand lifted until his pointer finger could tap ever so softly on the tip of her nose.

energy coiled in her body, waiting to be expressed. the anticipation of a competition robbed from her body, months of practicing only to be put on hold – it left her feeling like she was standing on the edge of something and couldn't quite leap yet. sitara didn't do well with frustrations, she locked herself up and away, avoiding those she loved so she didn't take it out on them, focused her efforts on targets of her sister and called it a day. here in aureth she had nothing to place her emotions on, which lead to her secluding herself more and more.

not that her siblings quite let her get away with it – each finding a different way bring a lightness to her mood that she would endlessly be grateful for. it was far better than the other extra circulars she was engaging in late at night – but that was neither here nor their business.

sitara's body relaxes when the presence is that of her sibling. the princess isn't in the mood to socialize but her siblings were always different. they didn't require her to pretend or be something new. " obviously. " drawls she. the glare in her eyes would scare many, but sitara's siblings knew good and well when she offered them this it was all an act. nose wrinkles at the tap, but she does nothing to stop it despite them both knowing she could. " i think you've confused me for a damsel in distress. " comes her response, but her voice doesn't match the glare at all.

Wren looks at the other for a second, vaguely recognizing her as a royal from the official welcome into the castle but not quite remembering her name. She had paid enough attention to figure out who to treat respectfully, and that is about it. After all, she hadn’t expected to see the others outside of the games’ events… And yet, somehow she has managed to run into two Eryndorian royals in one day. Wonders of wonders.
