The anti-mask law was passed at about 1:30pm. At 3pm, Carrie Lam met the press. Angry protesters came out to the streets again wearing masks. Clashes were expected.

My first reaction to the announcement is to search for information about the anti-mask law, and trying to find its loopholes. The law itself is not a really big deal, but by invoking the emergency regulations ordinance to bypass the review process of the legislative council, our freedom to fight for democracy will be taken away, step by step.

I was also trying to learn the plan of the protesters, and trying to find a route to school that could avoid police and clashes. I was aggressively browsing the internet, hoping to convince my friends that there was a way to meet up. But no. Our game meeting was postponed anyway, to ensure safety.

It shouldn’t have been a big deal for me. I am fine with staying home for a long time. It’s just I am already bad at maintaining friendship, and now meeting friends is becoming harder and harder, it wouldn’t be surprising if I was going to lose all my friends. No… It would be easier if I cut off all ties and live alone.

The Russian exchange student in our group said “stay safe you guys”, to which I answered “stay safe everyone”. I couldn’t ensure her safety just because she’s a foreigner.

Free speech also only means the government can’t punish/censor you for expressing your views UNLESS your views fall under hate-speech or you express them with violence - both things that white supremacy falls under.
