'MAGIC GARDENS - LAST CALL'

If you happen to be in Portland, Oregon I'm exhibiting in a group show called 'Magic Gardens - Last Call' opening tomorrow night. Press release below:

"One Grand Gallery, a contemporary art and design gallery is proud to present, Magic Gardens: Last Call, exhibiting classic strip club posters from over 50 artists in commemoration of the imminent Magic Gardens closure on December 31st.

Opening in the 1960’s as a lesbian club, Magic Gardens soon became aChinatown staple as a pool hall, strip club and bar. Everett Moore, owner and operator for the last 20 years, was not given the option to renew the lease in the 100-year-old building and has negotiated to stay in the space until the end of this year.

Since One Grand Gallery’s inception the idea of a “Portland Strip Club Art Show” that celebrates the culture and living history of Portland’s nude dancing scene has always been on our list. We can’t think of a better time to exhibit the creative inspirations brought on by the dark room, strong cocktails and naked dancers at Magic Gardens."

Show runs from 5th -30 December.

HELL YES

I have a new show opening at Boxpark gallery next Thursday 2nd October. Here's what the press release says:

Mark Ward is well known for work that reflects his fascination with America.

In this new series of work entitled 'Hell Yes', Mark explores the idea of belief and obsession around the iconography from American pop culture that has influenced him since his youth. The images here represent a land of eternal sunshine and include elements of mythology, folklore and legend to create characters reminiscent of sacred figures. From Basketball to Burgers, Hot Rods to Flamingos, it's all here to be worshipped. Step into the light…

'MADE YOU LOOK' - NEW SOLO SHOW

I have a brand new solo show opening next week at Jaguar Shoes. The opening night is Thursday 12th September. You are all invited to come down and see what I've been busy creating.

The Jaguar Shoes takeover includes installations, prints and sculptures. A collaboration with the amazing 'Woouf' - the soft furnishings company from Barcelona, will also be displayed. Alongside all of this, a signature cocktail has been created to help aid your viewing pleasure!

Here's a little video of what went down at 71a Gallery the other night for the Rap Graphics show:

The show is typographical pieces of art - strictly no graffiti! - created from rap lyrics by first-class illustrators. It’s all about showing off the amazing poetry, wordplay and technical genius of rap in a whole new artistic light beyond fat markers and paint drips.

Exhibiting artists include Sarah Hyndman (The New York Times, Hill & Knowlton), Mark Ward (Nike, Mountain Dew),Timba Smits (Thames & Hudson, Wired), Niels Bakkerus, Angus MacPherson (Little White Lies magazine) andFabrizio Festa (HUCK magazine).

The lyrics chosen for the illustrations have been chosen by such hip hop artists as Stig of the Dump, Aspects, Ed Skrein, The Last Skeptik, Dizraeli and more.

I've been invited to take part in this show tonight at 71a Gallery in Shoreditch. Being a rapper was on my list of 'Things I want to be when I grow up'. I never made the grade, but I have had the opportunity to illustrate some lyrics from the UK's finest - Aspects.
