so hypothetically what if you went out to paint and realized you forgot your paint box so all you had to work with were your "in case of flowers" random colours (a hot pink, light turquoise, and a purple). purely hypothetical scenario.
can't go wrong with a good old Bridge and Water combo

tbh giving art advice is hard without putting some effort into learning how to teach art & how to pay attention to your own process enough to explain it. like, I've read articles/posts/etc on art that walk the reader through the making of a particular piece with analysis of each step, and it's very different from how I personally experience the painting process. my personal experience is more like "i walked around until i found a composition i liked and then i moved some paint around for a couple of hours until it looked right or i got tired. stray bits of art advice and other people's art passed in and out of my mind. i cursed the sun/clouds/wind/other weather phenomena. i contemplated Lunch and Snacks. i pondered my personal problems and did not find any solutions." which is not useful in teaching anyone how to paint sdfhgkjh
Do you have any advice for someone who wants to start painting like you? You have the exact style I want to use to capture nature scenes and such so anything is appreciated!!
hmmm tbh I don't know if I have any advice on how to paint like me! stylistically, my approach is a mishmash of things I picked up from other artists¹ and habits I've developed as I've continued painting.
"just practice" is an oft-repeated bit of advice, sometimes expanded upon with "but practice mindfully i.e. afterwards, analyze your work and identify strengths & things you want to work on, and target your practice towards those things". and I really do think that's the best advice I can offer - just start painting, and try stuff out, and keep painting. you'll gradually find yourself gravitating to specific approaches e.g. a particular way of painting windows or tree branches or whatever, but I'm not gonna say "this is how branches must be painted", you know?
¹ my instagram algorithm is tuned to show me a bunch of plein air artists, which gives me ideas for a bunch of stuff to try (and also gives me "why am i not out there painting rn" fomo lol)
your art is really cool
thank you! 😄
