Tusk is such a big record for me that I have trouble saying anything about it at all. The fact that such a massive and successful band would have the nerve to release this sprawling album as the followup to their glossy blockbuster hit known as Rumors— at the absolute height of their mainstream popularity— is nothing short of astonishing. This thing is a beast, to call it important is a gross understatement. Rolling Stone didn’t seem too jazzed about it back in 1979 though. Camper Van Beethoven released a song-by-song cover of Tusk in 2002 that is also worth checking out.
