So that’s what he’s feeling. His mind is a little fuzzy due to a lack of… something. Starts with a t. Wait- maybe a d. Or a q?
Nevermind, that doesn’t matter.
What matters is his husband’s hands on his throat, slowly but surely choking the life out of him, but Hizashi doesn’t hold that against them. Knows he never could.
There wasn’t a moment after their second year that either of them doubted that they could die at any moment on the job, but…. death by the other’s hand was less thought upon. Hand—Hizashi reminds himself after a moment—just his hands, not his mind. Shouta wasn’t in his right mind right now. A quirk—something, is making him do this.
Tears.
That’s another thing he registers, and they’re not just his. There’s tears from his own eyes and from his husband’s. There’s something that sounds wrong about that… Maybe it’s because Sho has dry eye? Doesn’t that make crying both harder and painful for Shouta?…
A sudden increase of pressure on his throat reminds Hizashi of his own pain.
It shocks him into action again, and he starts frantically pushing at Sho’s arms but it doesn’t matter. It does nothing. Hizashi tries to think, but it’s so hard. His mind feels so empty and he knows he should be able to get out of this but… oxygen. Yeah, that’s the word. He knows he should be able to get out of this but the lack of oxygen pumping through his veins is making him weak.
“S-Sho….” he manages to squeeze out. It’s a desperate plea, but he’s grasping at straws, too weak to push Shouta off and too tired to think of anything else. But the only change in Shouta is an influx of tears as his grip tightens around his husband’s throat.
Guilt.
He knows it’s something that plaques Shouta everyday. Every time he can’t save a victim, made the wrong call, overlooked an important detail… Shouta remembers all of his mistakes. And this? Hizashi knows it would break him.
Somewhere, deep deep in the back of his mind he knows this is when he dies. Call it a sixth sense, but ever since the moment Shouta’s hands closed around his throat he knew this was it.
So with his own survival no longer on the forefront of his mind, he breathes in as much as he can and saves his air. He speaks frantically, not even sure if his words are audible. He’s no longer pleading for his life, but reminding Shouta of something he knows he’ll no longer be able to say.
“I still lo-”
His words cut off with a sickening pop as something in his neck gives out and everything goes black.
One of Hizashis favorite things to do after a long day is remove his hearing aids, lay his head on Shouts chest and just feel the rumble as he talks.
Hizashi can't tell what he's saying but he takes solace in the grounding feeling.
When they're younger, prior to them dating, Shouta uses these instances to practice confessing to Hizashi. He'll ramble on and on about all the things he loves about him as he runs his fingers through his hair, Hizashi none the wiser as he pours his heart out.
