Rabastan & Marlene
Rab knew just how easy it was to wind up the Mckinnon girl which was why he kept doing it – Merlin if he had to spend his evening in detention, then he was at least going to have a bit of fun with it. Everyone knew him to have a short temper, to not be the most approachable guy but sometimes that got tiresome, and therefore he wanted to just do something different for tonight. “Don’t pretend that you wouldn’t enjoy a night with me, you must have heard things, heard good things…” Of course he’d have his fair share of female friends but lately he’d been a little better behaved because he was to be married.
Once he was left with Marlene, he sighed to himself because it so happened that she didn’t want to socialize with him although he hadn’t been expecting anything else. “It’s funny if you think about it… how people consider me to be… evil and yet when I’m trying to be kind and actually make an effort you just brush me off” he told her although he wasn’t just talking about her, everyone in this god forsaken place was the same. “Why are you here in the first place? Is there a reason … or did you just really want to spend your evening with me? Even though you’re trying to put across a different viewpoint”
Contrary to the popular belief, Marlene had never been an excellent actress. Everyone believed her to be a caricature of herself, a dramatized and accentuated version of who she really was, but the truth remained, she was simply an over the top person. She'd make a fuss about anything and Merlin, resisting sending a curse his way after every comment was becoming more difficult by the second. "You're disgusting." The brunette repeated again, her tone more scornful and less entertained than it had been before. "Now I think about it, I have heard some things and honestly, everyone seems rather unimpressed with your services."
A humourless laugh slipped her lips upon hearing the next comment and it actually made her sit up from her previously slumping position on her chair. "You're right. Wanting to have nothing to do with you makes me pure evil. In my spare time, I also kick puppies and bully first years." She responded, one sarcastic comment following another as she pondered on the ridiculousness of what he'd said.
Sitting in silence for a moment before answering his question, it wasn't that she was ashamed of what she'd done-- or what she hadn't done in her case, Marlene simply didn't want to speak to him. "McGonagall likes to interfere in every aspect of my life." The brunette finally drawled, before turning her attention to him. "What about you? Get put in here for being too polite? No wait-- let me think. You're in here for getting caught in another broom closet, am I right?"
The Pursuit of Annoyance // Sirius&Marlene
Sirius had never been the sort to tutor others— he wasn’t exactly the best teacher, and he did not have the right temperament for such a thing. Sirius Black was a difficult person, and no one could surpass that stubbornness—it was genetic. He looked at Marlene in exasperation, lips pursed and eyebrows arched—a signature look. “Marlene,” he whined, “it’s not about doing that exactly,” he rolled his eyes as if it was so obvious. “Changing appearances, making things disappear, and making them reappear? Ring a bell, McKinnon?”
With a swish of his wand, and a shift of attention from the Gryffindor to the now-wooden book, he changed the text back into its original form. “The science is behind it, and it’s sort of important, but—that’s not the main, uh—stuff?” Really, tutoring wasn’t his forte.
“Whatever, feel that it’s ridiculous,” he was giving up, or, he was close to it. Marlene was being almost, or just as, difficult as Sirius, and two personalities like that weren’t going to mix. “I’m actually trying here, you—“ he sighed in frustration and kept himself in control, a miracle in itself.
It was no secret that Marlene took it upon herself to act completely juvenile in Sirius' presence and his previously condescending tone had done nothing to help it. If he wanted to treat her like a child, she'd act like one, though the truth remained, she was awful at transfiguration and he was surprisingly good at it. Merely rolling her eyes as he continued to talk about the ins and outs of the subject like she cared-- she should have cared, but she didn't and that was enough to keep her obstinate in the matter.
Raising an eyebrow in response to his teaching ability or lack of it, the situation became somewhat amusing and the more frustrated he became, the more entertained she found herself. A faint smile tugging at the corners of her lips, an obvious scoff slipped her lips. "Twat." Marlene muttered under her breath, amusement still evident on her features and a faint laugh slipping her lips. It wasn't a spiteful insult, but one of mutual understanding. They were both acting fairly stupid and though she wasn't willing to admit it, probably her more so. Slamming the book shut and sliding it across the table, she let out a sigh of relief.
"I can't do it, you can-- whatever. Can you just admit that it's bollocks?"
Witch versus Rich | Jonathan & Marlene
His eyes were automatically drawn to the brunette as soon as he’d entered the hall, she’s always had that effect on the young man, a sort of infectious annoyance surrounded her and his hatred of her drew him to it. However, he was undeniably surprised and in fact, stuck between a correspondence of rather petulant or amused at the sight of the girl with that morning’s Daily Prophet in had. It had made him chuckle at how it probably instilled within her lithe frame, a shackling fear, but on the other hand, filled him with fury at the possibility of her reading it for her own amusement.
A pounding headache settled in just behind squinting eyes and icy orbs still managed to twinkle through a veil of barely suppressed animosity as he shot the staring gazes down with a dismissive look, his stalk becoming a stride as she sauntered off. His mouth was nearly brimming over with retorts, both mildly sarcastic and furious as the husky drawl left his lips.
"Get a good enough look of my face on the front page? I was trying to go for inexhaustibly charming with a hint of arrogance, a dash of infuriation and a touch of crazy."
The need to unleash his wrath was one he welcomed with open arms and his face did not often betray the thoughts and emotions within, but just this once his lip curled in disgust, his eyes crinkled in disdain and his jaw clenched in exasperation.
"But you know what? All I am is angry, McKinnon. So make your jokes about how I can’t kill you or how my father must be glad I’m following in his steps. I assure you, I’ll see how close I can get you to death and make it look like an accident.
Whatever you’ve got McKinnon, throw it at me. I can take it. Just make sure you can take what you give.”
There were numerous reasons why Marlene had chosen to wind Jonathan up, but the most apparent one was his new found temper. It had always been a fight between fire and ice, but it was clear to see that his glaciers were melting and as a result, the brunette felt she had gained the upper hand, though she was sure he'd have something to say about that. As she walked away, she realized it was only a matter of time before he'd have his input and she wasn't wrong. Five, four, three, two, scorn.
Momentarily entertained by his words, a mere scoff left her lips in response. "Definitely, I'm quite sick of it actually. You got the crazy across no problem, but your lack of charm is fairly obvious." She mused, forcing a bitter sweet smile onto her features. It killed her to play nice-- well, as nice as she could possibly get. Marlene despised the falsity of it all. Controlled eyes, gritted teeth, pleasant tone. But her anger was her downfall and she was tired of playing for the losing side.
"You're angry? Watch out, Avery, someone might realize that you're capable of feeling human emotion. Just promise me you won't cry, I'm not all that great at comforting people."
It was these situations that she wished her pride would simply let her back down, she was poking a bear with a stick and it was only a matter of time before she'd find herself bitten. Though she'd never admit it, fear had made itself at home in the pit of her stomach as she stood defiantly and the obvious option was to bluff it out. But he could hurt her and honestly, she'd only have herself to blame.
"I'm entertained, I really am. You won't lay a hand on me and you sure as hell aren't going to curse me in the middle of a corridor, so I don't need to throw anything at you. I can stand here and taunt you all I like because you're all talk. You're a liar and a joke."
I say that the Black Lake deserves to be swum in before the weather turns absolutely freezing.

"Obsessed, ha! I forget what a wicked sense of humour you have."
"I won’t be done until you’re dead, McKinnon. Until you pay for your crimes against humanity, then I will be done.”
"You’ve also forgotten what a wicked punch I have, so you might want to stop running your mouth."
"Crimes against humanity, that’s a joke. What am I being charged for? Being a frankly disappointing pureblood? ‘Cause I’m pretty sure you fall under that category too."

Right, right. it’ll go something like, “Oh, that McKinnon. Always turned in her essays right on time. She, Evans, and Meadowes all had scarily similar writing styles. I wonder why….” And then he’d go on to talk about that time you snored in class and how charming it was.
My snoring is rather charming, isn't it? But really, give Lily some credit, her ability to change her handwriting is rather impressive. You really aren't doing her justice.
She shrugged nonchalantly, “I don’t have a clue.” She continued, “I guess I was just being nice. Rare, I know.”

Theoretical glory days. Probably all involving Slug Club in one form or another. As long as he’s distracted from teaching, I couldn’t care less whose glory days he’s reliving.

Shall we play a game for old times sake before you succumb to the lowly, filthy fate you were always destined for? Maybe we’ll hang you from the chandelier in my manor by a rope and use you as a pinata for my birthday while you suffocate…”
"Play along? If you haven't noticed, I'm naturally this insufferable."
"Murder, torture, arrogance-- blah, blah, blah. You'd be a lot more interesting if you weren't so obsessed with me and honestly, it's proving to be quite the bore. If you don't hang me from your chandelier fairly soon, I'm pretty sure I'm going to die from boredom first. Are you done yet?"
