legatvmâ:
âI want to go back to Berlin,â Alice stated wistfully, a pout forming on her lips as she pushed her drink in the direction of Marlene, signaling for her to drink the rest of it. She certainly didnât need the rest, what was the point of drinking on a night she had patrols with the Order? Pushing the drink closer to Marlene, she finally gave her a look, putting her arms up in surrender. âWell now if you take that youâll be drinking and I wonât be alone,â it was a fair question Marlene asked, there were a many a number of places she couldâve been that night. While she had chosen to meet a contact here, she hadnât needed to stay.Â
âWell, I cheated on my Uncle Florean ice cream wise and he just found out so Iâm avoiding him, my flatâs too messy right now to deal with and I got off of work late, plus I had to come,â Alice pointed at the random group of old men having their argument. âI had to hear their argument. Reminds me of home a bit. In Galway. I really dunno, maybe I was waiting for you. All those years of Divination have gotten me LOCKED IN with my inner eye. Thatâs got to be it. Maybe we should start arguing with them.â
Marlene finished Aliceâs drink and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand, raising her eyebrows. The glass clinked in the bottom of the glass, and she swirled the cubes around, snorting. âThatâs true,â she acknowledged, ânow Iâm drinking with you, and apparently you want to go back to Germany.â She shrugged and grinned. âWhich might be better than here, youâre right. Ugh.â She shivered as the cold of the drink worked its way down her chest, but it was followed by the rush of warmth from the spirit, and that was much better. Brushing her windblown hair out of her eyes, she settled back.
âFlorean!â she beamed. âOh, I love him. Has he agreed to my proposal yet? One day I will be Madame Fortescue, and I will have access to all the ice cream Iâve ever dreamed of. He doesnât even have to be faithful, I wonât care, Iâll cheerfully wave him goodbye from the parlour.â Shaking her head, she glanced over at the old men, then back to Alice, and raised one eyebrow. Knowing her friend, she really would start an argument with them. Marlene would be right there at her shoulder, but she was still bloody cold and wasnât an Irish maniac.
âIf youâre so good at the future,â she said, distracting her by flinging out her arm dramatically and covering her forehead with her other hand, damsel in distress style, âmaybe you can read my lines and tell me why all my relationships end in screaming and violence. It canât be the common denominator.â She winked and pointed to herself.
