I don’t know how to forget
75 years ago this week, from the May 4, 1942 issue, LIFE ran an article about a famous sibling rivalry: “SISTER ACT—Joan Fontaine and Olivia De Havilland are spurred on by rivalry to separate success.” This image ran with the following caption: “As successful movie stars, 21 years later, Joan (left) and Olivia make one of their rare appearances together in a window at Joan’s home. This year they were winner and runner-up, respectively, for the Academy Award.” (Bob Landry—The LIFE Picture Collection/Getty Images) #thisweekinLIFE #LIFElegends #1940s
I just want you to know I’ve realized things. I loved you. Really loved you. But you can’t keep doing the same thing over and over until you hurt me, even if you don’t mean to. And I’m tired. I’m tired of having to forgive you all the time. I hope you learn from this. You can’t just love someone and leave them hanging. You need to prioritize them, love them, give them time. You did those, but they didn’t last. It turned out all that was left of you was a shadow. I was loving a shadow of a man I used to know.

Don’t wait around for people who only text you for favors or rides or late night company. You are beautiful and brilliant and so, so alive. You’re triple text material.
