‘Tainted’ Short Film Evaluation
For this Short Film project, I was in a group that consisted of 5 of us altogether, in our group there was Katie, Luke, James and Simon. The script our Short Film group was given was ‘Tainted’ written by Tsvetina Georgieva. Each person in our group was given a script so we could familiarise ourselves with the script and know the script. There were a few difficulties with this short film script like one difficulty was creating the tattoo. Our group had to ask the writer Tsvetina if it was possible make changes to a few bits of the script. One of the parts that needed to be changed was instead of two males being in the scene just to change it to one male in the scene instead. Our director Simon had to appoint roles to each of us in the group; I was given the role of Sound.
In our groups, there were a few locations to film our short film, on the other hand we did have a hart time finding them. We used Simons house for the the apartment scene and we also used Lukes house for the flashback scenes and George’s house scenes. Two of our members went down to the drama department to go and pitch our short films to them, unfortunately they did not get back to us. In the end we only found one actor for Lilith from a website called ‘Casting Call Pro’ and another actor for Evangeline was a 1st year student Kodou from our course and for George we used one of our team members Luke.
We started filming at Simons house and tried to get the Lilith and Evangeline scenes there done as soon as possible, when it came to applying the tattoo onto the 1st years back, it was quite difficult as we had to get the actor that was portraying Lilith to apply it on her back with the use of eyeliner and talcum powder. The first day we filmed, we concentrated on Lilith Scenes and Evangeline scenes but on the second day of filming we only concentrated on Evangeline's scenes. The filming had gone to a success despite the amount of equipment we had as we were not given a boom pole for the sound and a base plate for the camera to sit on the glider. From this point, we needed to make alternatives and improvise by using a paint pole for the boom pole and used a track instead of glider. For the smoking scenes, there were a few inconveniences that we had filming outside because the microphone was picking up unnecessary sound effects such as wind that kept getting in the way of filming. Even when we moved to other positions, the problem kept occuring which caused unnecessary problems in post production.
After filming had finished, the footage was brought in the next day for the footage to be edited into Final Cut Pro and Simon and Katie had began editing the short film, half of the footage was transferred onto computer so we had to try and find the footage with the help of Dave before the edit could commence. Simon and Katie were responsible for the post production of the Short Film.
To conclude, I think that there were a few inconveniences with ‘Tainted’, however I am also absolutely pleased with the final cut. I felt like I was in a professional manner of a production team. It was the first time co-operating with experienced and professional actors. I definitely felt more versatile as I was working in a different group and people who I don't usually work with. The only downside with the project was the miscommunication within the production team as some people were not communicative enough as others were.
