there were too many people in a room that was to small. there was chattering and the atmospheric music. tables covered in food and punch. and stefan sat against the wall, almost in the corner, obscured by one of said tables. he picked at a loose thread on the side of his knee, waiting for this to be over. he just wanted to get out of this crowded room. there were so many mental voices that couldn’t be silenced, and they were making him dizzy. suddenly, he saw a shadow of a person cast over him and he looked up. “sorry,” he mumbled, shifting on the ground. “i’m— not really a fan of school dances.”

He was so weak that he did not hear footsteps approaching, he only realised someone was there when he felt the rope loosen.
