So I’ve seen a lot of posts about knitters and crocheters needing to stretch their hands after probably working like crazy to finish Christmas gifts which is good. No criticism. I’ve got videos of yoga that specifically targets shoulders and hands if anyone’s interested but that’s not why I’m making this post. I have something to add.
We need to add some *light* weight lifting. I know, boo, hiss, throw the tomatoes.
So you’re stretching out tendons when you work your arms, specifically your wrists. I want you to think of that tendon like a rubber band. What happens when you stretch a rubber band too much? It weakens and eventually breaks. There is such a thing as too much stretching, especially if it doesn’t seem to help the pain. Which is why we also need to build up strength in our arms and hands to counteract that. You don’t need to lift anything heavy. I usually don’t lift heavier than 25 lbs if I’m trying to rehab my hands and arms. And literally all you have to do is walk around with the weights in your hands. Like a suitcase. You can do dumbbells, you can do kettlebells, you can carry your 25lb kid around, I just want you to do it. You can even just carry jugs of milk around at the store if your hands can’t do the weights. And it feels good after a while. You might feel weird just walking around with weights but this is literally how farmers get strong.
This isn’t even something I’m an expert on, but my husband is. And half of what we do for weightlifting is just to protect my hands and arms long term. Message me if you have questions. If I can’t answer it, my husband can. We want you to be able to craft until you die, not until you get carpel tunnel in your 30s-40s. Love you knitblr.
my little sister and I have the same parents and grew up in the same house and ate the same food for our entire lives. I was always fatter. I was more active, too. one of my favorite pastimes in high school was running stairs. I would spend hours at a time running up and down our basement stairs and across the length of our basement. When I got tired I would pace. stayed fat. I also ran track and cross country at school. stayed fat. my sister stayed thin.
people can accept that there are certain people who will be thin no matter what they eat or do. they refuse to accept that there are people who will be fat no matter what they eat or do. so yeah. eat however much you want of whatever you want, whenever you want, wherever you want!! you do NOT have that much control over your body, and it's not your job to spend your one precious life becoming as small as you can.
I have never, and will never, use "ofc" to mean "of fucking course". It literally stands for OF Course...
1) any stretching is better than no stretching
2) any vegetable is better than no vegetable
3) statistically you will never be the worst person at anything, there is always someone in the world who is worse at stuff than you are
its probably a normal sign for the economy that all of my adulthood fantasies are like "imagine having your own kitchen living room and bathroom to decorate" "what if i could get on a train" "maybe one day i could purchase a sturdy pair of shoes" "i should save and invest in a single bicycle"

Knitted two pairs of socks!!
They are both for my mum's colleauge's kid, same pattern & size but slightly different yarn & needles, so they fit different (on purpose, so at least one pair might fit the kid well ✨)
The blue pair is knit in DROPS Safran (a soft cotton yarn) on needles 2,5 mm
The brown pair is knit in Järbo Colin (a cotton and linen mix), with the white details in Safran, on needles 3 mm
My mum intended to make them at first, but her hands aren't up for knitting at the moment (pain) so I voluenteered to be her hands!
In return, mum sewed together a few things for my friend's kids, since my legs & back currently get mad at me (aka pain & numbness) when I work the sewing machine...
So here is my bingo chart! Orange X:s are for this:
Counting my mum and I trading projects as a swap
All the yarns were from stash (although I did have to buy more dark blue to finish the second sock... Almost had enough at home, but not fully)
And I managed to whiz up the brown pair in like a week! Bc I was home with a bad cold and had to stay entertained 😅
