The anti-vax and anti-science propaganda is very real - and also, frankly I think doctors and nurses would've had an easier time getting people not to fall for it if they spent less time treating people like fucking shit
This post is about a lot of things but it is especially about racism, medical abuse, and eugenics
NGL, I've honestly came to understanding where the skeptics were coming from when my partner was hospitalized.
It was like they didn't care at times. They manhandled him, offered little empathy, and one time I saw a nurse yelling at him and saying she didn't care how much it hurt or made him cry. When he pleaded that I stay a night, something he never did and was difficult since the hospital was 2 hours away, I genuinely felt furious. I hated them, every single one - and a lot of the time I was the one doing the work in caring for him. Cleaning him; clearing his airways; feeding him; and getting him the attention he needed. And honestly, for awhile I 'got it'. I understood how people could come to mistrust or despise doctors and hospitals. Ultimately I had to stop myself from going deeper, especially when he passed, but I honestly don't feel the same about hospitals, doctors or nurses now as I used to. The appreciation is still there... but I won't lie and say that I don't second-guess them now.
