#MarvelReborn Announcement

When we created Marvel Reborn, we had a very specific vision for it – we wanted a place where serious and casual RPers could come together and collectively build storylines and connect for RP. We were adamant from the start that we didn’t want specific accounts or names identified as ‘owners’, and we didn’t want anyone to feel excluded from the group, which is why we are collectively known as ‘monkeys’ and everyone that wants in is part of MR. We really feel that we were able to create something special here; we’d been able to bring together old friends, make new ones and have some epic times RPing. But life carries on with its demands, as it always tends to, and collectively we monkeys find that dealing with the daily housekeeping tasks is starting to make Marvel Reborn feel like a job instead of something fun. We feel the pressure to keep things moving and perhaps now have realized that in our vision to create a true ‘group- run-group’, we've been unable to shake some of the traditional group structures and stereotypes.  The monkeys have talked about it, and talked about what we could manage and what we wanted to change. We even talked about if it was time to close the doors on the ol’ joint but ultimately decided that we didn’t want to throw away what we’d created.  So, it is with mixed emotions that we bid goodbye to the “Marvel Reborn RP Group” but it is with excitement that we invite you to say hello to the ‘Marvel Reborn Collective’. What we’ve decided to do is to give Marvel Reborn to you, the RP’ers, and open the doors to one and all. Come here to connect with other Marvel RPers, use our chat rooms and forums as a place to meet other people. Maybe you’re starting out for the first time in RP here, maybe you’re an old hand at it and looking for more great people to meet and talk with. We don’t care if you RP on Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, Vainstagram or wherever, Marvel Reborn is a community place for /everyone/ who loves Marvel RP.  What will be changing:  • Individualized #FF’s will be discontinued: they were, quite frankly, a pain in the banana to do.  • Taken Roles and Open Role pages on the site will be taken down. Who cares if we have more than one of the same character? Community isn’t exclusive, and you should be able to play who you want, when you want and with whomever you want.  • There will be no SL’s that are closed to the "group'.  • Site twitter will now RT requests from all for all Marvel requests, news, ads, etc. If you’re looking to start a SL, if you’re looking to meet new people, if you’re looking to introduce yourself – let us know and we’ll do our best to connect you and RT you. Think of us now as a Marvel specific RP resource.  • The #MarvelReborn profile tag is open for all, if you want to use it to identify yourself that you can be found in our forums / chat, then please use it. If you want us to add you to our lists, then just @ us and we will.  What will stay the same:  • Our rules will still apply as outlined on our site. If you harass, cyberbully, threaten or otherwise act like a general douche noozle to others, we will ban you from the site resources and caution others to interact with you at their own peril.  • We will still have the same love for RP, SL’s, an open and accepting culture that fosters the community spirit of RP.  Please, as always, do not hesitate to @ us with any questions, suggestions or comments.  To our members, we love you. This place wouldn’t have been and won’t be the same without you. If this new format doesn’t appeal to you for any reason, we understand and please accept our apologies. If it does, then we certainly look forward to seeing you around.  To any new people who might be checking us out for the first time, or hesitant to jump in with us, please – this is your community too. Let us know what we can do to support and what you want your community to include.  As always, we remain your cheeky monkey friends as we embark on this new path.

Missing Member of the Week: The Wizard

This week, we're taking a walk on the dark side and looking at the villains of the world. We decided we should look for a villain with more brains than brawn, who's technological marvels would be world renowned, if he weren't a selfish, greedy git.

This week, we’ve chosen a young lady with a dark past; a girl with the powers of a well-known mutant who never seems to die! She can do all he can and more, and she can do all that while looking sexy as all hell!

We’d be more than happy to welcome an X-23 into our new family, especially if she causes trouble for our favourite Wolverine!

Who are we? We're Marvel Reborn, a Marvel RPG group that uses Twitter as our play-by-post medium. We are a group run, collaborative RPG, accepting all Marvel characters. How to RP on Twitter: 101

Twitter is an interesting place for comic based RP as it’s capped at a 140 character limit – which lends itself to the action packed and quick momentum of a comic book.  You’d be surprised what you can accomplish in 140 characters!  (Or more, but we’ll get to that later.) Getting Started: Your first step to getting started in Twitter RP is to create an account.  If you’re not playing a well known or canon character, then it might help to put [RP] in your bio, so people are aware it’s a role playing account.  Your bio is also a great place to put a short description of your character, or your powers in.  Your username can be anything you want, but the most popular options are to use your character name or a short description of them / their power.  Try to be creative! Next, you’ll need to follow people.  This allows you to see them on your timeline (TL), and see what people are up to in order to jump in on the action.  When you follow someone, they will receive a notification of this and most people will then look at your account and follow you back, which means that all your tweets will now appear in their timeline.  You can choose to unfollow someone anytime you want, they will not receive a notification of this.   To get suggestions of people to follow, you can see who accounts that you like follow or look at ‘lists’ (a collection (or list) of twitter accounts) for suggestions. Posting: Nothing will give you an idea of how Twitter RP works like following some good players for a while.  When you’re ready to jump in on your own, you can send out a post or a ‘starter’.  Starters can be generic and not addressed to a certain party, or you can tag someone specific in your post by using the @ and then their username.  It’s advisable that you send more than just ‘hey’, which will likely get ignored because it doesn’t give the person anything to go on.  Give it some context!  Maybe something like ‘Slides up to @UN at the bar, and gives him a long once over.*  Can I buy you a drink, sailor?” However,  if the person you are speaking to is  currently in an active RP posting, then may not be able to reply to you.  It’s generally advisable to only have one RP on the go.  Mostly because even fictional characters can only be in one place at a time. Well...most of them at least! Any tweets that are directed to you will be in your ‘@ Connect’ page, accessed via the top toolbar. Use click on the arrow that says ‘Reply’ to automatically create a tweet back to them. Role play: In twitter, actions are usually encased by *’s, for example: *Flips over his head and crouches down low to fire off another shot.* Spoken words are not encased in anything.  For example:    *Flips over his head and crouches down low to fire off another shot.*  You still with me, sugar? The only universal rule to Twitter RP is that you do not control the actions of another.  This is known as ‘god modding’ and it’s the fastest way to get ignored in RP.   You can fire bullets at someone, but you can’t specify in your tweet that the bullets hit them or what damage they do.  We’ve outlined a few more rules in this thread. You’ll notice some other punctuation used from time to time.  [..] generally indicates something not said out loud, or thoughts.  Symbols like // or ((..)) usually indicate a message that is OOC or out of character.  Most RPers will have an OOC account that is separate in order to keep the TL RP focused. What to do when 140 characters isn’t enough: Sometimes, you just have more to say than what 140 characters will allow. It’s okay – it happens to everyone!  In this case, you have two options – depending on how much you need to say. If it’s just a case of needing one more tweet to complete your thought, then you can continue in another tweet, tagging the same people again.  You want to signal to others that the thought / action is continuing though, and the easiest way to do that is by putting > at the end of the tweet. If you’ve got a whole lot of words that you need to let out, or if you want to do a more in-depth posting or descriptive solo, then we recommend using Twitlonger.  (www.twitlonger.com)  TW’s will post the first 140 characters of your tweet, and then show a link to the rest so people can view it in its entirety.   Remember, if you are tagging other people in your TW, then you want to make sure to put their UN at the start of the tweet, as anything after then the 140 character limit will not elicit a notification to them. Hashtags: When the UN’s of the people you’re RPing with gets too cumbersome or numberous to write out a normal tweet, it’s advisable to switch to a hashtag, usually a short word description of your RP plot.  The downside to hashtags is that you won’t receive a notification on when someone posts, so you’ll have to be following a bit closer so you can jump in when it’s your turn in the posting order.  Common RP Acronyms: RP: Role Play RPG: Role Play Group  / Game UN: Username or your twitter handle TL: You twitter timeline, a page of all the tweets from the people you follow #TeamFollowBack or FB: Following back, when you follow someone that follows you OOC: out of character (not the muse / character talking) IC: In character TW: a twitlonger post

How to Join Our RPG

So by now, you've read the rules and have a character picked out.  Or at least you've read the rules! If not, go back and try again.  (We kid, we kid.) What's next? Well, now you have a few options.  You'll need to create a yuku account to post anything, ask us questions or the like.  But due to the way yuku works, simply signing up isn't enough and creating a yuku account doesn't mean that you're in the group.  Step 1:  Select an available character by reviewing our character lists.  That thread isn't the definitive list of all Marvel characters, so if you want to RP someone who's not on the list, hit us up!    Step 2:  Tell us! There's no owners and no auditions, so don't worry. We may ask for you to show us what you got in the case of some high level / Omega level mutants, but otherwise, we just want to know. You can post in the public forum, pop into chat or drop us a note in the shoutbox with any Yuku account. Step 3:  Once you've got the go ahead for your character, go ahead and create the Yuku account for it by clicking here: http://marvelreborn.yuku.com/signup/me Step 4:  Go into  the members forum and it should give you the option to apply for membership. We will authorise and update your permissions ASAP so you can get in on all the action and view the 'Members' forum. Your role is not approved or guaranteed until this step is done.  You can see when this is done via your Yuku inbox.

Site Rules

Okay, you’re here because you like Marvel AND you like to role play.  That’s fantastic! So do we, that’s why we created this place.  This isn’t your typical RP group.  There are no owners here and you don’t have to have anything ‘approved’ by anyone to do a story line.  There are no limits on who you can or can’t talk to or RP with. 

But we do ask that you follow some simple rules.  Call them, ‘Guidelines to Harmonious RPing’.

GTHRP#1:  You will respect all of your fellow role players, both IC and OOC.   By all means, have your character claw off another character’s face in an epic fight, as long as that other character is onboard with having a face ripped to shreds.  Anyone caught bullying, (cyber bulling, harassing, stalking or otherwise) will be removed and blocked.   Hateful or bashing comments directed at another Role Player, particularly those dealing with gender, race, color, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or national origin, even between RP characters will not be tolerated.   Seriously, if you can’t play nice with others, get off twitter and go back to kindergarten.

GTHRP#2:  We’re not your parents, so swear on here all you like.  While typos and spelling errors happen to the best of us, please attempt to use correct punctuation (commas, periods, exclamation points, etc) in your posts.  We’re here because we like RP and we like writing and we like SL’s, so let’s keep the focus on that.  

GTHRP #3:  Character accounts are for RP, your OOC account is for complaining about your life or tweeting instagrammed pictures of your food.  Please do not get the two confused.   RP as your character would, and react as they would not as you would.  RP is more than just having your character smile or smirk, it’s about creating a dynamic and well-rounded presence.  

GTHRP#4: Be online.  We like your face and we want to see you around.  If you’re gone for too long, we will give up your character if someone else wants it, but we will @ your ass before we do it, because we’re courteous like that.

GTHRP #5:  No god-modding and your character CANNOT be invincible.  All characters have weaknesses, so learn yours.  If another character throws a punch at your character, you can dodge or take it seriously and fall from the punch with an injury.  That’s just RP 101 people.  While we’re on the subject, you cannot control another person's character, unless you have their permission to ghost them.  

Let us break it down for you; this is RP: *Fires a bullet towards @CharacterNameHere* 

This is NOT RP: *Fires a bullet towards @CharactersNameHere and kills him.* 

That’s godmodding.  Know the difference; it could save your life.

GTHRP #6:  If you can think it up, you can RP it.  You make up your own SL’s and are responsible for getting your own ass out there to RP.  Bored? Start a conversation or steal something.  (We recommend nuclear reactors, or weapons storehouses, but that’s just us.)   For sensitive topics like rape, baby murder, or something that is going to mortally offend others, it’s probably best to ask for a second opinion (not your imaginary friend).

GTHRP #7:  Please keep your explicit sexual adventures to DM’s.  Because c’mon, does the whole world really need to know what kind of kinky shit you’re into?

GTHRP #8:  HAVE FUN! This rule is non-negotiable.
