I kinda wish for a specific fanfic, something like Cells At Work, but with Reploids doing their daily functions.
(A slice of life from the point of view of different Reploids that are “outside” the conflict between the Hunters and the Marvericks) (would love to write something like that to explore their world, so maybe one day).
I’m tired to have huge explanations for every headcanon I have, my thought processes is so scrambled that I have no hopes of actually making people understand it.
So Just take my headcanon that Iris likes spiders, she finds them fascinating because of their ability of creating webs, and that she would have a Velvet Spider as a pet, and go.
(There’s: references and symbolism in this headcanon. References to Blade Runner and Trigun 1998, even a real life sculpture, and the symbolisms are many, but the most important are “the ability to build”, “the child that eats the parent”, “connections”, “patience”)
Making playlists for MMX characters is so satisfying (specially when you actually found the right music for that one scenario, lol)
There’s two kinds of playlists I like to make: the first is the musics the character would absolutely listen to, (this sounds strange, but it helps me to build their personality), the second is the musics that just helps you with daydream about them.
(Making a playlist for X, and since forever I want to say how much “Mr.Roboto” by Stynx— really really recommend the cover by The Protomen— fits him. Oh my fucking God, I love the “I’m not a hero, I’m not a savior, forget what you know. I’m just a man who circumstances went beyond his control. Beyond my control. I need control, you need control.” AAAAAAAAA
Also, every time I talk about X I will talk about Iris. And of course I have a huge playlist that helps me daydream about her, lolololol
She has “Between Two Worlds [Limbus Company]” in her playlist and how I wish to explain Why).
I've been thinkin about X4 recently, mostly about Iris and Colonel. Also got reminded of Hero Twist and what Iris might be like in that particular au.
I've said before that I wasn't sure if Iris will develop a crush on Zero or not since X would be the one in his place. Now though I think that X would still save her, but he's not happy about her and Colonel's origin. Plot twist though is that Iris would also not like X, a mix of jealousy and plain dislike of methods when it comes to handling mavericks. Both are aware of the mutual animosity between them. They just don't say anything since they're both smart enough to know that a yelling match would just make things so much worse.
@maverickhunterx99 has opened my eyes to biblically accurate Iris and I've been scheming a way to fit her in one of my au's ever since I saw their post here. Please take a look at their stuff, it's super refreshing to see Iris so unapologetically upset about her relationship to X.
(Holy fuck I’m actually speechless, someone is getting inspired by my stuff with Iris, holy cow I dreamed about this once and now it’s actually happening the fuck)
Iris likes photography and do it as a hobby, (this idea came to me after watching Blade Runner and reflect on the scenes with the pictures that Replicants would carry with themselves. Iris seems to me like someone that would like to keep records of everything, it’s her memories after all).
Colonel would learn about this little hobby in the harshest way though:
Iris: Colonel, look down here!
Takes a picture with the flash brightness on the maximum.
Please, don’t look if you’re sensitive to it. If you’re comfortable looking at Junji Ito works, specially the character Tomie, you may proceed).
I once saw some fanarts with X with a broken mask, and I thought: “but when the “mask” is you?”
I call this: What happens when an individual learns that everything special about them came from someone else? What happens when they learn they’re actually an inferior version of perfection itself? When do they start? When the original ends?
Iris once lived happily being who she was, but after learning the truth, she couldn’t go back to ignorance. She now knows that the only parts that aren’t from X are the ones that dread the knowledge of being a replica.
Without him, she’s just… a robot. But she can’t accept that.
(Iris is the “Human identity” of X, while Colonel is the “Hero identity”. Tragically, she never was treated like a human being, her heart doesn’t beat the same way as theirs, so she must wrestle with the consequences of her existence as a means to an end). (This version of Iris was inspired by manga Sigma, when he learns about X being the original, the reason of Reploids existence.
I always thought the concept was interesting— but not for Sigma, honestly. That’s why I moved it to Iris, as she well know as being a lackluster character and X clone anyway, so let’s her know that and actually going against that shit as a plot! + a little about Reploid hate for being create as functions first and people later.
She has the hate but not the capacity to actually do something… or does she?) (For more Reploids that blame X for their existence as tools for humanity, he’s literally the Father of Reploids, he helped Cain create them and gladly just let him manufacture them in large scale.
The tittle is never mention enough to my taste. Now yes, he’s not responsible for the existence for every single Reploid, but the point is: the reason why the system exists is because of him.
You gave someone the power to do anything, the pencils and the canvas, and you expect them to not abuse the power of creation??
Now, I could go by the Novels path, where X believes he’s a Reploid because he was awaken 10 years later after Dr.Cain discovered him and Reploids were already rooming around. And later she would start to understand that he’s as much a victim as her, he never gave his consent to create Reploids— but the Repliforce War happened and she would want him dead regardless for choosing humanity over them anyway). (So many ideas, so many possibilities).
Because Zero isn’t the one that will kill Iris (X will. He deserves to have a boss fight against the twins, he must face the creations made in his image, not Zero), the “What Am I Fighting For?!” scene happened when he killed Colonel.
But I swear Colonel’s death is sad, because it would be weird if Zero killed the Colonel that we all know, that’s why I changed him a little bit for this to work:
Their match was meant to be the last time he would fight. “The Colonel”, humanity’s war hero, would retire, a person with a name of his own would go back home to his sister.
Colonel in my reinterpretation suffers from role engulfment, he doesn’t exist without the purpose the scientists built him for— needless to say that the end of the war, the after it, was terrifying to him. He was built to be X’s heroic side, he also was humanity’s champion, he only served a different institution, the Repliforce, but he also gave everything to honor his creators wishes.
So when humanity qualified his organization as Marvericks, he lost his ground.
Because who he’s if not a hero? Winning or not, what would he be? You know that one phrase from the movie “Apocalypse Now”, from Kilgore: “someday this war is going to end”, Colonel was built around conflict, Colonel and Iris are the separation of the Hero from The Human self, and a Hero is always fighting for the better future… but because he never had a normal life… because he wasn’t programmed as a person, but as a purpose, a means to an end, then what he will do with that peace? What will be his new identity in the world they will build? Outside the war, outside the revolution, outside being a soldier, who he shall be?
He’s facing the exactly same crisis that Iris was facing ages ago, of who they are outside their programming. He never understood Why she felt the way she did back then, what he did understood was that she was Pain, Her Thoughts were Hurting her, but he didn’t Know how to help her fighting them, because he himself believed that following the programming was enough. Colonel doesn’t know how to get deep, he’s purposely built to be shallow because he was Never meant to question humanity’s intentions with them, he was built to be their attack dog, and dogs will never question back.
What saves him from his fear of this future was knowing that Iris would be at his side in his worst moments. And this pushes him forward, to look at the future without fear, and actively trying to build himself— and a good start would be with a name…
But he never came back home to tell Iris what he had chosen.
…
Zero killed him with one attack, he cut him in half, and that was it.
This is not meant to be a honorable fight, it’s meant to be the death of someone who gave everything and still failed to go back home with his loved ones. Zero isn’t fighting against a Marverick, and it fells bitter because of how easily he killed Colonel, it unglamorous because Zero did exactly what he was originally programmed to do so: to kill people.
We know that of course, he doesn’t. But he still question himself, how he could had killed him so easily?? Why he did not hesitated??
What he’s fighting for?!
(He simply couldn’t continue anymore. That’s why X would be alone against General and then an enraged Iris).
….
One last thing about Colonel, in any other situation, he would gladly die for his cause.
He would kill and die for humanity.
He even was already walking to his grave before the war, as he was being overworked to death, because he needed to maintain by himself Repliforce’s reputation and the soldiers’s morale 24/7. He’s the man of steel and he can do the impossible! He can handle Everything by himself!
Just ask him and he will do it!
In other words, he would have died nameless regardless. He would die as his role assigned from creation. And nothing else. People would always remember what he did to them, but never Who he was.
Don’t know if anyone had this idea yet, but wouldn’t it be kinda interesting to see X passing through the “ship of Theseus paradox” through the games?
Until in command mission we finally see all his original parts replaced??
(I love the idea of it starting with his voice, because from what we see in his original schematics, it wasn’t created by Dr.Light, but by a third party— essentially, no schematics to create even a replica of his original sound generator. I guess.
+ the whole “when the voice changes in a man it’s a sign of maturity”).
Ok, X and Zero are different from Reploids, but like… think X as a wolf and Reploids as dogs, so descents of him, but still very different anatomically (+ the whole being built for a specific purpose and how this affect their appearance).
Zero, on the other hand, is a dingo. You can easily point out that X is different, but Zero? Not really (unless you look at his behavior closely/have the knowledge that he’s ABSOLUTELY NOT a domestic dog).
So yeah, that’s why I believe Zero wouldn’t question himself if he’s a Reploid or not, some may say he’s… different. But that’s it. It’s not uncommon Reploids that are unique in some way after all, specially those that are not products of mass fabrication, but are tailor-made.
I keep thinking in making my own designs of X, Iris and Colonel with different types of heterochromia and canthal tilt, (in other words: their eyes, the widow of their souls, is different)
Those are small details, sure, but I like it.
X would have complete heterochromia (Blue and Green) and Neutral Canthal tilt; Iris would have central heterochromia (brown inside, green outside) and negative canthal tilt; Colonel would have Sectorial heterochromia (one small part brown and the rest is blue) and positive canthal tilt.
And I know someone wants to say it. Please, do not the cat 🥀
I was planning to post this yesterday, but I was unsure (because nothing ever is set in stone in my mind, my Headcanons can change depending on my mood, specially sexuality Headcanons) (it’s like, sometimes I want this character to just be me, Aroace, and other times I want to create an AU where this character is kissing someone) (and I would love to say: it’s open to interpretation. But I hate that shit so fucking much too. Anyway, those Headcanons are for a specific version of those characters, my reinterpretation.
In other AUs the character may be straight, bi, aromantic, or lesbian, but in my reinterpretation this will be their sexuality). (Please be respectful, don’t argue with me this character should be Y or Z, you have your Headcanons and I have mine).
X: Aroace (this one has a very special place in my heart, you have no idea. It makes me very upset when some fans say he needs a special one in his life because “he’s the most human Reploid”. Yes, we live in a amatonormativity world, but cmon man, it’s not the end of the world that X never received any valentine days skins in XDive too) (I don’t like the idea that he’s naive about romance. In Clover, Zero says “he doesn’t understand those feelings he has for the Flower”, but honestly, X would, he just doesn’t feel them. And a character that’s is basically a bridge between humanity and Reploids, I think he would be self-aware that there’s some experiences “““normal””” humans have that he never had, and it will hammer his consciousness).
Zero: Bi (“The ocean is full of water” statement of the century).
Iris: Pan (All is fair in love and war, as they say).
Colonel: Straight (Nothing special to say here. Sorry, son).
Dynamo: Aromantic (this one is so fucking funny to me, I swear) (he prefers to keep it cool, why everyone is so desperate?? Chill out.
Well, at least he can use his charms in his favor)
Alia: Straight (+Demisexual) (stating this because in my reinterpretation she’s a human being) (all Reploids are asexual, but would love one day to explore everyone’s relationship with sexual content/activities, because no one is influenced by media the same way).
Sigma: Bi (Literally have the Bi flag as a cape in X5. Also, small fact time: he canonically fucks according to X7 manga. I’m not gonna change that)
Gate: Bi (Damn, everyone infected by Zero was Bi).
Red: Straight (allo) (another Reploid turning into human in my reinterpretation)
Layer: Bi
Pallete: Lesbian
Rico: Bi

May edit this post and add more in the future, but that’s it so far.
Iris as Mega Mewtwo Y, (The Fallen Angel stare) (The Forbidden Popsicle).
She has four other designs (Child, Teen, this one and this version but with armor, but I don’t feel like doing them so soon). This took me time, specially with the coloring, but it was worth it.
As I said before, I was unsure how to translate Iris design for Pokemon, specially to a Mewtwo, if anyone has some suggestion for how I can improve this design, please, feel free to tell.
—-—-—
This part is long, so be prepared. But to summarize things up: what if Mewtwo was born as a kid and actually stayed with the scientists, raised inside the lab, also, what if the scientists wanted its brain and power separated? Creating two individuals with different purposes, but still connected to the point they Need each other to function fully.
What Mewtwo would have to overcome from those years inside the lab after it was free?
(you have no clue how many times i edited this part, holy fuck, this post needs to perfect even though i can’t yet share everything about Her and her brother). (The same way i accept criticism about her design, I also accept suggestions about how I can improve her story).
Iris story is inspired by Plato’s cave allegory, she doesn’t know how the world outside the lab is, or pretty much anything, as she doesn’t have a reliable outside source to tell her. The world is what the scientists told her, the shadows of the cave.
While her brother is meant to be the “Pokemon”, she’s the “Trainer”; he will obey her commands, but to make sure she would follow their orders (their creators), they made sure she believed that without them, she would die outside, as she’s “too sick, too fragile, so she constantly needs to be checked”. The terror the scientists put her was so intense that it created a mental block in her, where she simple cannot attack other Pokemon herself, or she will die trying, they enforced the idea they need to check everything she does to make sure she’s doing it right, she can’t adventure outside alone, or she will get lost. Etc etc. The world is only dangerous because she’s weak and naive, she’s not prepared to it yet, she needs more training, but in reality they never want her to know how to live without them.
Her childhood was full of dreams about the outside world tough, it was dangerous, but something new that she wanted to explore, as the lab wasn’t mentally stimulated enough for her mind… (She’s like a super computer, she constantly needs more information, and the scientist know that, that’s why they deprive her of it, so she can only focus on the tests they want her to do), (think like how labs deprive animals of food. A hungry animal is gonna be food motivated), but until her brother was born, they could only dream about it together.
And yes, she was born before Colonel. They’re still twins of course, same age, but Colonel was allowed to exit his tube only after achieving adult stage. They would only talk with each other during their dreams, as Colonel was in a profound sleep inside the tub, (also, have you ever heard the song: “Fish inside a Bird cage”? That’s their situation. Iris doesn’t know reality, but “reality” gets to be real in their dreams, making Colonel hopeful that they’re true too). In those dreams she was allowed to do anything, and share genuine moments of happiness someone that was just like her…
But after Colonel was born, Iris would get an intense rage against their creators after he was forced into a procedure that turned him into their perfect soldier (erasing his memories in the process, turning him into a robot). The scientists had no idea about her dreams, they had no idea about their conversations, as she never told them because she was terrified they would also want to control their dreams too, her scape, but that proved to be a curse in disguise as they didn’t understand Why she was so angry at them.
Their indifference in killing her brother caused the explosion of the laboratory, as she ordered Colonel to take them out, (why she attacked the scientist you may ask? Well, very simple: She was also made to command Colonel, even other Pokemon, to attack humans if necessary. Pokemon and humans alike are their enemies.
The scientists only proved they also were there to hurt them too). (And about “the other Pokemon”, like I said before, Iris is the trainer, therefore the strategist, she wouldn’t just command Colonel, even though he was meant to be her Ace and be the most powerful Pokemon, it was necessary she learned how to use other Pokemon too. So she wasn’t alone with the scientists growing up, but she didn’t understood those Pokemon, she couldn’t speak their language).
After this, things would play like Mewtwo origin, as they finally experience the real world… and it was ugly, overwhelming, terrifying. She would constantly ask why things were like this, because yes, she was told the outside was dangerous to her, but not exactly how it was, how it functioned (it’s like being told how the sun is bright vs experiencing looking it up for more than 5 seconds).
They wanted her to be dependent on her brother, they wanted her to be constantly dependent on them, she’s like a indoor cat that never learned how to hunt, how to distinguish friend from foul, a safe place or a dangerous one. She ran away from home after learning it was unsafe, but what now?
The difference between her and a normal house cat though, is that she has a fucking atomic bomb watching over her. They created the most anxious creature to command a weapon of mass destruction, I wonder what will happen—
Ah yes, things will take a turn where Iris and Colonel would fist fight God (Mew! X).
––—–—
About her design.
I wanted to make her look like a doll (am I a robot or a doll?) (that’s why the “joints” in her legs), it was based on the concept art of Mega Mewtwo Y:
She has green eyes. But we will only see them after she finally finds joy in life.
I also changed the ears to look like horns.
———
Some facts about her:
• She constantly floats around; it’s mentally draining, but she can only rest when she really needs to. She’s so skeptical of the world around her, everything is new but equally so dangerous, that she only interacts with the world physically when necessary. It’s like a tiger interacting with the grass and rain for the first time and being terrified of how it will affect it, it’s just sad.
• She start to learn more about her psychic powers after the laboratory, like for example: how she can mentally control Pokemon.
Gonna use the tag “Green Apple Replica” in every post I explore Iris and X relationship.
The reason behind the name of the tag is very simple: because their eyes are green + because they have an Adam and Eve motif going on between them (Eve was created by Adam’s rib, the same way Iris was created by X’s schematics. They have a special connection. And in my story, X lost his innocence after Iris, because her knowledge, her suffering, her wrath, forced him to analyze the power dynamics between Humans and Reploids, specially if he wants both worlds to truly connect. Basically, he bite the same forbidden fruit as she did) + they’re artificial beings, replicas of humanity + I didn’t want just green apple.
I think this facilitates me more, people will start to associate the tag with them and will know when the post Is about their dynamic, not just Iris.
You can use it yourself, you can even use the tag in ship contexts if you want. (This is not really a ship tag, it will just facilitate my life when in the near future I do posts exclusively about their dynamic.
But I don’t like to gate keep things, so to all the 3 IrisX fans, you can use it too) (just tag it as ship in the end, please).
…..
One last thing: the song “Forbidden Fruit” by Tommee Profitt, Sam Tinnesz and Brooke is their theme song.
I’m not making rules, I’m just the suggestion guy.
