remus/sirius people rbing that "when the old men are gay" post... calm down they are in their 30s

i'm someone who thinks that sirius was in love with both james and remus and it's interesting to think about how those two relationships/loves were different.

firstly—i think r/s was reciprocated and involved an actual romantic relationship. i think sirius's crush on james was entirely one-sided, and james's love for sirius was wholly brotherly (sorry sirius!).

but the differences go back further i think. sirius loved james so much because james was his first friend; meeting james on the hogwarts express gave sirius hope that he could escape from his household and escape from the legacy of his family. james was a spoilt and loved only child from a "good" family, and didn't really carry any baggage into the friendship—as a result, i think sirius's relationship with james was largely one of escapism/refuge.

meanwhile, 11 yo remus obviously comes with very heavy baggage. remus and sirius are drawn to each other because they both have this darkness inside them—remus the wolf, sirius his family. they bond over suffering basically, over being the two people in the friend group with the most Issues.

and i think remus and sirius's relationship had a lot more deep faultlines running through it from the start; it was built upon shared loneliness/traumatic childhoods and they never fully trusted each other, especially not after the prank. remus and sirius both suspected the other of spying for voldemort during the war, whereas there was no such suspicion between james and sirius—james and sirius had a more simplistic, perhaps more childish love for each other, which did not allow much room for that kind of distrust to grow.

so pathetic how cis hp fans are constantly looking for assurance that they're not transphobic. i've seen so many trans people, especially transfem people, get asks on this site from some hp fan going "omg it's ok if i still like hp right 🥺🥺🥺 please say it's ok so every time someone complains i'm transphobic i can point to this trans person who says i'm not transphobic". and then if the trans person's response is anything other than "yeah it's fine <33 harry potter forever #hogwartsismyhome #ravenpuff #drarryisreal" then they get dogpiled by 47 different cisgender crackers who are so deeply insecure about their enjoyment of a racist children's book series that they feel the need to attack every trans person who says anything mildly critical of said book series.

the expectation for every trans person (& obviously this expectation is even stricter if you're transfem) to have some nuanced opinion on engaging with harry potter is ridiculous. if you like transphobic media it's not absurd for someone to assume that you're transphobic. if you're truly not transphobic but insist on engaging with harry potter then like you do you, no one can stop you, but people are gonna assume you're a transphobe and that's what you'll have to deal with if you want to be a harry potter fan so bad. no one's stopping you. now leave trans women alone

Sometimes I think about how Remus embraced Sirius literally the exact moment he realised Sirius was innocent. It’s like he was waiting all thirteen years just for something, anything, any reason at all to believe that Sirius didn’t do it, waiting all those years to embrace Sirius and welcome him back into his life. Remus even interrupts Harry with the urgency he has to embrace Sirius.
