“Yes, I do,” Moira replied as she nodded. She squinted as she looked at the symbols at the blackboard. “Which is how I know that those symbols are not runes. I have no idea what they mean. However, they still make me feel uneasy for some reason.” 

“I’m afraid I will be of zero help then. I know nothing about Runes. At all. I can help you look through textbooks and try to match the symbols, but other than that, I think I’ll just be in your way.”

“Not really.” She smiled and shook her head before looking at the blackboard again. On it was a lot of symbols and drawings that didn’t make much sense. “I was just trying to understand what the symbols meant and got lost in thought.”

Mary followed her gaze to the blackboard and raised her eyebrows as she looked at it. “Runes?” she asked. Ancient Runes was not her forte. “I’m afraid I can’t be of much help with that. Do you take Runes?”

Moira was standing in an empty classroom, staring at the blackboard when she heard a noise behind her. Startled, she quickly turned around. “Oh, you scared me,” she said while holding a hand over her heart. “No you’re not interrupting anything. I’m just..standing here, really.”

He nodded “I will go see McGonagall soon. Dumbledore already gave us permission to go home, and even if he wouldn’t have given it, at this point I would’ve gone home anyway.’ Gideon ran a hand through his hair. “Thank you though, it means a lot.”

“And nobody would blame you if you had, but you have permission, and that’s all that matters. You and Fabian will be home with your family in no time. And it’s no trouble, at all. If oyu need anything, anything at all, you tell me, okay?”

Actually, she could, and she does turn down someone responsible–at least according to our peers I’m responsible, and when I ask she normally says no.” he smiled. “That can be both a good and bad thing. As for the first year… did Sirius or James have something to do with it? If so I need to go apologize.”

“That’s because you are the patient. When the patient asks it seems like a bad idea. If the patient’s responsible ‘friend’ asked, perhaps she would be more inclined to approve. No, no, James and Sirius were on a tight leash while you weren’t there to watch them.”

“I know that feeling, sometimes you can get so pissed off at someone. I won’t say names but we all know who I’m talking about. Downside is that we can’t really talk to anyone when we need them right at that moment.”

“Yes, yes, we all know who. I’m fairly certain that you will find some way to talk to the blokes when you need them.“

“Don’t you dare,” Mary scolded Marlene. “If you do that, Papa Mac will ground you, and I’ll make sure Mama Remus backs up my decision.” She grinned. Even though it was a joke, she and Remus really were like parents to their unruly friends. “I want to be a Healer, I think.”

Marlene looked at the ground in mock shame, looking properly scolded. “Yes, ma’am,” she replied meekly before smiling cheekily. “A Healer?” Marlene asked, truly interested. It was perfect. “That totally suits you,” she added kindly. “Which department would you work in?” she asked excitedly. “I heard there’s an extremely good-looking younger man heading up the trauma section of the Spell-Induced Injuries department. You should try and get in there,” she said with a wink.

“Good girl,” Mary said. “I don’t know. I’m not sure if I would specialize in anything or the semantics of it all. I’m just trying to focus on my NEWTs so I can at least make it into the training program.” Mary rolled her eyes. “I’m not doing it to meet boys. I’ve got Remus.”
