My student spirit - Who is Anthony?
This is a post for all the new or old english fans who are wondering who this guy is, what's his deal and why is the My student spirit fandom obsessed with him.
(Originally written on Reddit.)
Full explanation below!
Anthony is one of the secondary caracters in the firsth season, and it is possible he will have a bigger role in the next one.
He has appeared in every animated episode so far, with mentions in comics.
There are 5 animated episodes that make the season 1. (Season 1 also includes 4 canon comics, 3 of which exist in video form.)
In case you haven't seen the last episode because it wasn't dubbed yet, here is my playlist for the firsth season in english which includes subtitled episode 5, and it also has subtitled comics and extra content. Be shure to check it out if you haven't seen it, because there WILL be spoilers in my explanation.
This playlist contains all of the episodes, comics and some additional content of a (mostly) animated series "My Student Spirit" that has be
Anthony's appearances in order are:
Episode 1 - Anthony is the guy that found Dmitry's body in the hallway and saved him by giving him chest compressions and calling ambulance. Later in episode in the classroom, other students start talking about him, instead of Dmitry, so one can draw a conclusion that Anthony is quite popular.
Episode 2 - At the beginning of the episode, Dmitry has a dream in which his big preformance is interrupted by Anthony (three Anthonys, to be precise, bcuz dream logic). This sort of scares off Dmitry so he falls off the stage and wakes up.
Shortly after Dmitry woke up, Elijah mentions Anthony, which upsets Dmitry. From this we can conclude that Dmitry really doesn't like anthony. Could be because of jelaousy of Anthony's popularity or something between them from the past.
In the 3rd comic "Game Over" - While Elijah is playing a Sims-like videogame, he makes a simulation of an ideal life he would've liked to have lived. In it, Elijah makes a character that is meant to represent Anthony, the inclusion of which alongside his family sugests two of them were close friends. While playing the game, Elijah unlocks an achievement "Diplomat", which says that he (character that represents him) made up with Anthony after an intense argument. This suggests that, if this is a fixed up version of his life events, Elijah and Anthony did have an argument in real life, but never got to make up due to Elijah's death.
Episode 3 - Anthony appears in the post credits scene where we can see that he watched the episode of psychic battle which took place in episode. He turns the TV off as it's mentioning Dmitry's "attempt at becoming famous". Anthony in this scene overall looks kind of sad.
(And if you want to look at really small details, Anthony is on the suspect board, but next to his image is a post-it note saying "DMITRY NO!". Implying this is Elijah saying to Dmitry that Anthony shouldn't be one of the murder suspects. From all of this and the relationship twist in the episode, we can assume that Anthony and Elijah knew each other. )
Episode 4 - The fact that Anthony and Elijah were friends is confirmed in this episode. Anthony firsth appears in the montage when he enters the flower shop, at which point dmitry quits the casier job there because he apparently hates Anthony so much he just doesn't want to interact with him at all. Later at the graveyard, it is revealed that Anthony is the one who left the flowers on Elijah's grave. When he sees Dmitry there, they have a conversation which really just shows the negative tension between the two.
Anthony stays on the grave, he doesn't see Elijah, but he does attempt to say something. This is disrupted by Dmitry's fall into the grave and injury, at which point Anthony calls an ambulance. Dmitry falls into shock as he feels helpless and useless, and has to be saved by the person he hates once more.
Trailer for episode 5 - in it we see events that happened before the series, where Anthony and drunk Dmitry fight with kebab sticks at a party, and Anthony injures Dima with the kebab stick, thus giving Dima his nickname.
Episode 5 (season 1 finale) - Anthony is driving Dmitry home from the hospital. Dmitry and Anthony have a short fight, as it is evident that Anthony is barely tolerating Dmitry's behaviour towards him in an attempt to be polite and helpful.
At the end of the episode, Dmitry, desprate, calls Anthony to drive him to the concert. In the car, Anthony confronts Dmitry about what happened in the third episode, telling him that he shouldn't seek attention in shuch a way, especially since Dmitry "didn't know Elijah". Because of that, Dmitry snaps at anthony and leaves the car.
This interaction further proves that Anthony and Elijah were really close and shows that Anthony still has not recovered from Elijah's death (althougth you could see that in ep 4 at the graveyard).
Okay, NOW, there is another part to Anthony's identity.
At the beginning of ep 3, we see chanells changing, one of which was news mentioning an "oppositionist" whose identity is still hidden, while showing a caracter in a mask and a suit talking on the stage. This caracter's imagery has been present trought the show in the form of posters over the city and dormitory. The posters read "Where Did our hero go?" with emphasis on the letter D.
This caracter appears in a short video "We need to talk" (which has also been dubbed, it's in my playlist so go check it out, it basically explains this caracter) where he in a jailcell explains what he stands and fights for. In the video his name is revealed: "Diplomator", which is what the "D" on his suit stands for.
In earlier mentioed 3rd comic, achievement about Anthony and Elijah making up is called "DIPLOMAT".
When the grandma in ep 3 talks about Elijah and Anthony' s relationship, she describes it as "blind leading the deaf" and mentions that this person Elijah knew was a "statley person", meaning he had something to do with politics.
In ep 5 he tells Dmitry that he knows what it's like to want attention and a red shade falls over his eyes. This red shade is really reminiscent of the Diplomator's mask.
Now put the 2 and 2 together and you know anthony's secret.
Diplomator also makes appearances in extra comics, one is about him being caught by the police and recognised as Anthony, and the other is a sort of Anthony's monologue about freedom and power and such.
Aditionally, one of those comics has a hidden barcode that leads to the following voiceline of Diplomator on Youtube:
The title of the video is a cezar's cypher with an offset of 20, according to the comments, it's something along the lines of "Confidential-Diplomator's speech". To understand the speech itself, you can turn on auto-generated subtitles.
It is speculated that Elijah knew of this secret, but that is really going into theory. A detail that might suggest that he did know is in second comic, during the nightmare sequence when Dmitry and Elijah sort of switch places. Then as we see Elijah laughing, next to him two black figures are standing and laughing alongside him. By their hairstyles, faceshapes and clothes lines, we can recognise one of them as Anthony, and the other one as Diplomator.
This theory can be considered as confirmed because of the frame in a previously mentioned extra comic about Anthony's monologue where we can see Elijah (his hair on the left side of the frame) painting Diplomator's mask with lipstick.
So yea, in short, probably more important than u think.
This will be on the exam
