I’m determined to finally update this space and am putting together some process posts from recent projects to share. So don’t give up on this sketchblog (I say to myself mostly!!).

I’m determined to finally update this space and am putting together some process posts from recent projects to share. So don’t give up on this sketchblog (I say to myself mostly!!).
I decided to take on the Inkotober challenge this year, and did a tiny portrait each day. Here’s a collection of the little heads. They are mostly done in ball point pen and each a couple inches tall. It was a fun project and got me into my sketch book most mornings.
A little sketch of children: the pencil drawing in my sketchbook and the colour version taken into photoshop.Â
Portrait study. I’m trying to work on my digital rendering skills a bit.Â
It’s wonderful biking weather in yyc these days!
Details of a coming utility box with a watermelon vibe to the colour scheme :-)Â
Had the opportunity to do some utility box designs for the City of Calgary last month. I’ve never had any of my drawings become so big before. It was a fun project with new things to learn!Â
They are located along 36th St by Marlborough Mall.Â
I’ve been doing a Sunday Sketch postcard project on Instagram, which involves sending mail to a stranger each week. Follow me @maryhaasdyk to see the new postcard on Sundays, which is an original sketch or little painting. Anyone who leaves a comment on it is in the running to receive mail from me! :-)Â
This project keeps me sketching and provides a fun way to share some of them with people. So follow along if this takes your fancy.
Book illustration done for the classic Beauty and the Beast fairy tale. An interprative portrait of each character set into the landscape; Beauty is the rose, and the Beast is a Yetti-inspired, mythical creature.
A little bit of process from a recent project. Trying to work out colours for an illustration for The Secret Garden.

Here’s some process from a portrait I did over the summer as a wedding gift. I experimented with layering a drawing over a painting.
The process quickly turned into an exercise in colour. Here are some variations - all over the board with these colours..
Here’s the final product.
Looking in. Little people standing outside the window. Detail of a recent project.
Bo Peep - Process shot of a Book Cover design. It’s a pulp fiction mystery inspired by the nursery rhyme of Little Bo Peep. Here’s a link to the project: www.behance.net/gallery/24642185/Book-Cover-The-Case-of-the-Vanishing-Lambs
Drawing more sheep. Environment in process.
