TBT to my amazing Field Museum Internship! Here is an incomplete digital illustration of a fantastically purple Bryozoan in it’s Silurian reef habitat.
Finally starting back on my paleontology book.
Looks like this is actually happening! What a divine sloth.
Getting back into the drawing biz. I have some deadlines coming up that I’ve been putting off (not entirely my fault, though), and I need to get the creative juices flowing again. So have a cute sloth! I might turn him into an Art Nouveau illustration coming up...
Um hi.
<3
Pulled this little baby out of the vault. Don’t know if I ever posted the line work or not way back in the day. I think it’d be super fun if people printed it out and colored it. :)
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah (belated...), Happy New Year, and happy whatever else you celebrate! I hope everyone is having a great winter so far (even though it technically doesn’t start until tomorrow) and I wish all of you a prosperous New Year! I’m hoping to post more soon with new projects and whatnot, but in case I cant, I just want you all to know that I love you and really appreciate the fact that you’ve stuck around throughout all of this not-posting business of mine. :)
You are the best.
Love, Mary
Oh Hi
It’s only been forever and a half since I’ve posted on here. Bad news, no new art to show (I’ve only been working on publications and I can’t really post that stuff). Good news, I have a link to share where you can see amazing scientific art!!
The National Science Foundation has open voting for their annual Vizzies competition, which is sort of like the Oscars for scientific illustrations. A number of other graduates from my program at CSUMB are in the top 10 for various categories, but this link will bring you right to my friend Quinn’s submission who graduated in the same class as me. Give her a vote if you have a spare 3 seconds, and also take the time to check out the other amazing work represented. Maybe next year I’ll even submit!

Love you guys! Hopefully I’ll have things to post soon. <3
Morning work sesh in black and white.
Who agrees that synapsids are just Pokemon from the past?
Have a little gif of a Thoatherium I just finished for a prehistoric field guide, modeled after a gazelle.
<3
Snippet of the scene I was working on a while back. I never shared, and I love how that meganeura so I figure sharing late is better than never.♡
Happy Sunday my peeps! I’ll be drawing peccaries all day (when I’m not stuffing my face on brunch in a bit). <3
Slooooooowly chipping away at the prehistoric animals for the field guide I’m working on.

My sister (who is just about 23 years old) took it upon herself to complete my babirusa painting. It is, and I quote, "ready to be shown to the editor." I wonder how fired I'd be if I shot this over to him haha.
So my sister texted me and said "I have a fun project for you. Draw me as a Super Saiyan." So I drop the PAYING project I'm working on and whip this out (real quick, thankfully). It was surprisingly fun because I haven't drawn anime since I think middle school when I wanted to be a comic book artist. And even though I totally copped out on the hands I'm pretty happy with how it looks style-wise. She's a mix between Goku and Videl.
I am so easily pressured into doing the bidding of others.
PS: she just notified me that the clothes need to be ripped more and there needs to be blood dripping from her mouth. Also she wants an evil grin. Sigh. Sisters.
Sometimes you just have to keep it graphic and simple. You know, for shrinking purposes and when you're referencing lovely, super old out-of-copyright drawings.
Excerpt of a much larger Pronghorn family tree, soon to be in color.
