âClosed? But itâs only⌠ah crap.â
Vassago was, as it turned out once in a blue moon, down on his luck; His little stunt at the Lucky Clover had not only cost him his winnings, but made sure he endured the night with a literal pain in his side. Thinking to cheer himself up a little he wandered around town, eventually finding himself at a nice little music store. Vassago himself had a taste for swing, ever since his dad introduced him to the genre, and he was craving some new⌠rather, new-er material. Thinking it was only ten, he checked his cracked cellphone to find it was in fact past 11pm.
âHey, uhh, really sorry about the intrusion at this hour, but⌠if you got the time I swear I wonât be long! Iâm just looking for something to get a little strut back in my stride, you know what Iâm saying? Iâve been craving some swing music, and I was wondering if you had anything like that?â
Vassagoâs third eye, a window into his subconscious, looked down at him judgmentally. It was squinting and glaring downward, as though to tell him he didnât belong in there; a sentiment shared by the person in the store with him, no doubt. He shrugged instinctively in response and scratched the back of his head nervously. âIâm Vassago, by the way,â he smiled timidly, âno last name needed, just Vassago!â
He seemed to realize his own mistake, at the very least. No arguments or threats here today. Though, he was insisting that he would take a quick look around before being out of her hair. The idea couldâve been laughable if she had the energy and the bravery to do so. Alas. The most she could muster that was impolite was her blinking slowly at his question whether they had swing music or not. She then motioned behind her towards the shelves of various CDs and records, saying âWeeeeâre a... music store. A- Any kind of swing will be where the small sign saying âSwingâ is...â
The succubus sighed before she walked away from Vassago back towards her cash register. Sheâd have to unlock it for now if she wanted to get rid of him quickly so she could leave soon after.Â
She wasnât completely impolite. She looked towards the monster and waved at him in greeting, saying âItâs Fukui. No first name needed, just Fukui. Y- You should be able to find some Benny Goodman, if you want to start off somewhere.â Of course Benny Goodman would be there--- no oneâs bought anything from the 30â˛s in weeks.Â

Vassagoâs head bobbed once, lifting as though he was about to pass out. While his face looked slightly tired, his third eye was most utterly smashed, spinning every which way whenever he moved his head. âPleased tâmeecha, Ten! Sorry your pal didnât show up⌠I ainât gonna speak for them since I donât know them none, but itâs a real shameâŚâÂ
He shifted on his stool, turning to face her. âThough now that I metâcha I kinda wish I didnât drink none, either.â He scratched the back of his head, swaying back and forth as he did so. âItâs awful embarrasin⌠bein drunk talkin to a⌠nice lady such as yerself.â He yawned, barely covering his mouth in time. âIâm callin quits on drinkin anâmore, so if ya donât mind me keepin ya company⌠I can be mighty entertainin while Iâm⌠shmashed.â He giggled, stabilizing himself with an arm.
It sounded like there was a compliment in there, maybe? A compliment nonetheless! The squid laughed nervously while waving one tentacle, going âO- Oh, stop, please! Ahaha!â His yawn did kind of... take away the effects that the nice statement couldâve had. She couldnât ask for much from a drunk stranger.
âI donât mind the company at all though, one bit!â She insisted with a smile. Admittedly, she felt better keeping an eye on him seeing how... silly he was acting! In a way! âM- My friend, just... Uhhh...â Ten couldnât help but to look behind Vassago, just in case her own pal would possibly show up in the window. Yet, there was no one. This caused her to sigh, resting her head on her tentacle with a frown.Â
âI- I usually take my friend out to, bars... a few times a week. Itâs healthy for her.â That statement sounded downright odd, she realized. She tried to clarify as a soft blue blush tinted her cheeks, âI- I mean, like... Socially- yeah! She gets sick if she doesnât go out, often...â

âFuck, fuck, fuckâŚâ Ten mumbled under breath repeatedly. She had gotten out of class much later than expected due to some group activities. It was difficult trying to maintain a group of five monsters and making sure each one would actually turn in their part of the project. It was like she was taking care of a bunch of kids⌠Gloomy eyed, careless kids⌠Besides that trouble though, her real issue was being out in the city so late. It was nearing 10PM, and she was supposed to back at home almost an hour ago.
âShit, shit, shitââ She rattled off a few more obscenities while pulling out her phone with one tentacle and pulling her jacket over head with the other to protect herself from the oncoming rain. Ten was expecting a text that would have said something close to âhey babe im outside rnâ, but instead paused for a small moment when reading the text she had missed twenty minutes ago.
âbabe sorry, i cant pick u up today. iâm really busy over here. :( get one of ur friends to pick u up, okay? love you, good luck on ur project.â
ââŚâ
Almost instinctively, her hair gripped onto her jacket to spread it over herself more, trying to protect herself from the falling rain. Ten took in a deep breath before exhaling, trying to stay calm. Her ride wasnât going to be coming. She knew her roommates both had double shifts. She also didnât know her classmates that well to ask them for a ride home. Ten shook her head as she made her walk away from the campus to the nearest bus stop. A bus was fine, she told herself. It was perfectly okay, she reminded herself.
Granted she had to push away the paranoid thoughts of various scenarios of her being mugged, threatened, or whatever worse to happen this late at a bus stop. âCrap, crap, crapâŚâ Ten mumbled as she hurried towards her destination and under the safety of the bus stop. She held her phone in front of her face with her right tentacle to look at the time, while placing her other right tentacle on her hip in a huff when seeing only ten minutes had passed. âWhateverâ, she thought to herself. It would only take a few minutes longer until the bus would come by. She would be alone until then. Or so she thought.

Fukui had gathered up her items into her bag before heading to the back room where her manager was laying about. She reminded him that she would be closing up shop soon and wished him a good night before clocking out and heading back out front to her counter. The demoness wasted no time in plugging her earphones to her phone before plugging up her ears with the sounds of neo-soul to relax her. She wanted to make sure she had gotten all her things before going home⌠The amount of times that she would leave her wallet on the counter were so much that she was surprised it had never gotten stolen. Yet.
Fukui nodded to herself in approval. It looked as if she had everything.
It wasnât until she heard the soft jingle of a bell, a signal that someone had walked into the music store. The succubus sighed softly, tugging at the handle of her purse. âReally?â she thought to herself. It was already dark out, and the closing times were clearly listed at 11PM. She didnât have the heart to actually shoo this stranger out of the store though.
âUh, excuse me?â She mumbled much too quietly for you to hear. âE- Excuse me,â she said insistingly, âIâm⌠sorry. Can I help you with something? W- Weâre kind of, closed?â As she talked to you from behind the counter, her eye was clearly looking down to the ground with no intention of actually making any eye contact with you. Socially, she was tuckered out.

WARENA FUKUI Â Â âSUCCUBUSâ
âI- I donât... think... I want to talk to you right now. Iâm kind of busy... Please leave me alone.â
Age unknown. Sign unknown. Finds the idea of a sexuality unnecessary. She/Her. Has poor health due to lack of life-force consumption. Constantly on the brink of death while still immortal, but looks more exhausted than suffering. Enjoys shopping and drinking with her roommates.
Maybe the world isnât as cruel as you think.

âIâll tell ya,â He continued, trying to make eye contact with Ten as best he could with both of them being drowsy, âya take one more drink of the ssshtuff Iâve been suckin down, and youâd be ffffucked before morning,â He laughed heartily, pushing the glass back to the bartender. He gave them a quick nod and the glass was out of his sight. âBy the way, thânameâs Vassago⌠no last name needed, justâŚâ He held is head up to continue his sentence, his third eye spinning in itâs socket like a googly eye, â⌠Vassago. You waitin on someone, miss?â
Placing both hands on the table he laughed again, but this time with a little more bitterness to it. âI wish I had someone to wait on, let me tell ya⌠all my college buddies are a bucha⌠buncha⌠DIHKS.â He practically hissed out the last word, swinging his fist in the air aimlessly. âThey donât even come visit anymore, man! What kind of people are they, amirite?â
Yeah, okay, she was mostly definitely returning now. Rubbing her eyes with a free tentacle, she yawned quietly as Vassago went on with his rant. He hadnât even let her answer his question without laughing and letting his frustrations out to her. His pronunciation on certain words and silly movements were definitely amusing. She had smiled a bit before giggling.
âThey... donât sound nice at all, no! They probably deserve a piece of... your mind?â She answered, her confusion peeking out. She wasnât actually sure how to answer his questions or if there were any right answers to say. The girl decided that a basic introduction would be good, waving softly, âI- Iâm Ten. Uh. I guess I was waiting on somebody buuut... I. I guess that isnât happening?â
She looked around the bar for a moment. There was no change of expression on her face since it looked like nobody she recognized was here. Damn.

Vassago was getting drunk. There was no getting around it; he had downed so much whiskey that he could feel his head bobbing back and forth. Luckily he knew where his limits were, so he put down the glass before he drowned the nights memory out of his head with booze. Looking to his right, he noticed another person passed out next to him.Â
âHey⌠hey miss,â Vassago slurred, trying his best to remain coherent, âYou down on your luck, too? Take it easy on the sauce; thatâs a one way ticket to a sore head you donât want.â
âHmmhh...??â The interruption from a strangerâs voice had pulled the squid out of her snore session, raising her head sleepily from her arms. Ten blinked a few times, trying to register what the monster had just said to her. It felt as if the world had moved too quickly in what was only minutes, and she was barely catching up to current events.
And sadly, she was sober! She had held off from ordering any drinks to wait until her friend would arrive. âMâsorry?â She slurred back at Vassago with no attempt at trying to be as coherent as he was. She was gone and slowly returning.

Pucaâd just arrived with a group of their co-workers for an after shift drink (they were of course the designated driver) when they saw Ten blatantly sleeping at the bar. They waved their friends off for a moment with a flick of their tail as they sat down next to the stranger and gently tried to shake them awake. âHello? Dear? Are you alright?â
@masarmas
Ten grunted softly when she was shaken as it seemed that Puca was simply too gently to wake her. A shame. On the other hand, her hair seemed to become very much alive from the suddenly physical contact. The strands reached over to Pucaâs arms and seized the limb that had dared touch their sea host. No ill intention was shown, the hair decided, as it began to shake Pucaâs arm with the same strength that they showed to Ten. Which was hardly any.
Ten snorted in her sleep, oblivious.
