Being the disappointment of the family, Cece tried to avoid family dinners and get togethers as much as she could. She wasnât doing her MBA like her twin sister and she wasnât a star athlete like her brother. Instead she was a college drop out, earning money with social media on the side (something her parents neither understood nor accepted). She always had to endure hearing about Cassie and Kyleâs achievements not only from themselves but her parents. However, there had been no getting out of this dinner. They told her it was important and that if she didnât come she could forget her credit card. So she put on a cute dress and made her way to the restaurant. While she wasnât the smartest, she could clearly tell that there were several empty seats at their table. She knew that both Kyle and Cassie werenât in the city right now. Cece asked her mother who they were waiting for but she just waved it off, saying sheâd see soon. Because that wasnât weird at all⊠Taking her phone out to scroll through instagram she barely listend to her motherâs ramblings. Until she heard one thing. ââŠso thatâs why youâre getting married.â Putting her phone down Cece looked at her mom, raising an eyebrow in disbelief and starting to laugh. If she was getting married sheâd know. Besides, she didnât even have or want a boyfriend right now. She wanted to go out and hook up with whoever she wanted, she was young she had to enjoy life while she could. âYeah right. Thatâs hilarious. You can tell me why Iâm actually here now.â Only her mother wasnât laughing. What the hell was going on? She was 21 years old, this had to be a joke. There was no way this wasnât a joke. Right? She didnât want to get married. To anyone. âWe decided that it was time for you to grow up. Enough with the constant going out and the tabloid pictures. Look at your siblings, they made something of themselves. Both of them work very hard and youâre not doing anything, which is why we thought of this. Itâs good for you and for our businesses. You remember our business associates, the Knight family? Youâll get married to their youngest son, Tyler. Or weâll cut you off financially. You could kiss that lifestyle of yours goodbye. Itâs up to you.âÂ
Her parents knew she was dependant on their money, the rent of her apartment was several thousand alone. Cece grew up living a life of luxury, she didnât know anything else and didn#t want to either. Her parents knew this and were using it against her now. She knew she should not have come tonight. Fuck, why did she believe that her parents couldâve just wanted to catch up with her? Why didnât she listen to her gut instinct? Even though she wanted to leave, she couldnât. So she was stuck here, waiting for them to arrive.Â
Tyler was kind of the middle child and so was always overlooked at first. It was only kind of since there were four of them, and there wasnât anyone in the middle. Tessa and TJ were much closer together in age that people always assumed the two were twins, they looked enough alike, they acted enough alike that it was a reasonable assumption. The older two were far more cut throat, far more like their father than Tyler was. And Trini? Trini was the baby of the family that always absorbed attention and got away with just her sweetness and looks, much to Tessaâs chagrin. Tyler was responsible, he was strategic, calm and a perfectionist. He took things slowly and thought them through, did them the hard way rather than the easy and quick way. Those were left better to his older siblings, always being hot-headed and rash with their decision making. They were just far too competitive, and despite the fact that Thomas loved the nature of competition, he still picked Tyler to be the one heâd pass the business down to, much to everyoneâs surprise, Tyler included. He hadnât expected to be in the position, he had figured heâd just be a high ranking employee, having worked and interned at the company for years. He hadnât ever expected that his father would start grooming him to take over. Though, it was exactly the fact that Tyler took his time with the business, learned the ropes from the bottom up and tried to work his way through it rather than steal it out from under his siblings that Thomas knew that despite how Tyler wasnât as competitive, wasnât as rash or cut-throat, he was still a far better business mind and more of a workaholic than the others.Â
At first Tyler thought the dinner with his parents that night was in celebration of his father announcing that he would be the heir to the family empire one day, for the promotion to an executive position in the company. Thomas was far from retiring, but the promotion of Tyler to Chief Operations Officer was as good as sealing the deal for when he did. He had thought this was just a celebration dinner, but it was on his way there that he was informed of the actual nature of the dinner and what was going to be expected of him. As always, Tyler simply nodded and voiced his agreement, knowing that the merger (what a way to describe his upcoming marriage) was one that would be extremely beneficial for both parties. It was smart, it was good for business and Tyler was always willing to do what was good for business.Â
The three members of the Knight family walked into the restaurant and Tyler tucked his phone away into his jacket pocket when he heard his mother hiss for him to do it before the reached the table with the other family. He had heard of the name, he knew every one of the people his father was in business with, knew about their kids. He also knew that this was one of the kids that didnât particularly have anything going for them other than being rich and pretty. He could probably get away with just indulging her whims, he thought as they approached the table. âMr. and Mrs. Chase,â Tyler greeted with a smile, shaking the manâs hand. âAlways a pleasure,â he said before turning his attention to the blonde and nodding in greeting. âItâs wonderful to finally be meeting you, Corinna,â he greeted Cece.Â
