One Step At a Time || Liason

Liana looked up, triumphant. Two whole chapters of the textbook were read and annotated, her creative writing assignment was half-finished, and her calculus homework was all done. The weekend was free and hers, and it was ten oāclock on a Saturday. Letting out a bright cheer that made her roommate glare at her playfully, she sprung out of her desk chair and grabbed her bag.
āWhere are you going?ā Her roommate asked, looking up from her Netflix binge session.
Liana stuffed her wallet, a light jacket, a bottle of water, a small notebook, and her keys in a huge tote.Ā āTo go irritate my boyfriend so much heāll seriously contemplate breaking up with me!ā She sang before blowing her friend a kiss and jogging out of the dorm.Ā
When she got to one of the sophomore dorms, she just waited for someone to be heading out before she ducked in. No one said anything. A lot of people were used to her ducking into the building, especially recently with her and Mason reconnecting. She was over here all the time, whether it was because they were studying together (Ā read: Mason was trying to get her to study and Liana was trying to take advantage of a usually empty room )Ā or they were Netflixing ( minus the chilling, most times ā what? Gossip Girl was good! ).Ā
Tripping gaily up the stairs, she pushed her way into Mason and his roommateās usually unlocked room. Unsurprisingly, on a Saturday night, his roommate was out - probably at a frat party or something. But disappointingly, her boyfriend was asleep on a textbook. Sleep and study, two things Liana refused to do. Coming up behind the desk chair, she began pressing soft kisses down the nape of Masonās neck.Ā āWake up, Mace. Cāmon, baby.ā
It had been a long week to say the least. The closer they got to the end of the school year, the further behind Mason fell on both sleep and his homework. Thatās not to say he doesnāt study away most of his free time -- itās simply never enough to appease his perfectionistic attitude towards his grades and academics in general. One might say heās a bit of a try hard. One would not be wrong. Such is the case that Saturday night, spent uselessly trapped in his room as the hours ticked by. Heād been texting Liana earlier in the evening, encouraging her to work on her school work, drop by if possible but it feels like ages ago.
He doesnāt remember falling asleep at his desk but as he feels gentle jostling rousing him back to alertness, the crick in his neck explains everything. Mason promised to himself that heād do a better job at gauging his exhaustion level and perhaps let himself slide by with an A or A- instead of aiming for the unobtainable A+ in these damned business classes. Bleary and out of sorts, it took Mason a long while to reason out just what had woken him from his academia induced slumber but a soft, familiar voice gave him his first hint.Ā āLi?ā he creaked, eyebrows raising and lids feeling at least minutely less heavy than they had a moment ago.
āWhat timeās it?ā he mumbled, head pressing back into the pillow of his arms (and economics textbook) though smiling softly as he felt the tease of her light kisses. As far as wakeup calls are concerned, itās not terrible.Ā āWhatās up?ā
