The internet just changed: Net Neutrality is dead.

The FCC sided with Comcast and decided to let ISPs censor the internet. The Internet needs to stop this from happening: http://cms.fightforthefuture.org/tellfcc/

Last Wednesday, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler announced a proposal for new rules that would allow for a “ fast lane” of Internet traffic for content providers who are willing (and able) to pay a fee. [1] The proposal reverses the FCC’s previous commitment to net neutrality and open internet and allows ISP’s like Comcast or Verizon to slow down and censor services that don’t pay the toll.

We have to be totally honest, this situation is seriously grim. But there is still hope. The FCC already knows that the Internet community wants net neutrality, but they think they can put their spin on these new rules and sneak them through. If we can prove them wrong right now with a massive public outcry, we can literally save the Internet once again.

We need to stop the FCC now. Big business groups are already ramping up lobbying efforts with the FCC in swarms since Wednesday’s announcement in support of censoring the open Internet and to ensure this dangerous proposal moves forward. [2]

This is a critical moment. In the last few weeks more than 65,000 people have taken action with us. Can you help us get to 80,000 by the end of the day today?

I try to keep the things I reblog as blog/mun-centric as possible, but this is something I just can’t let slide.

I’ve been following this cause since last year.  I’ve signed petitions, I’ve called representatives, I’ve been to protests, the whole nine yards.

This right here?  This is not a joke.  This is seriously happening, guys.

Remember the Wikipedia shutdown?  That was to protest this right here.  If you haven’t taken action against this yet, frankly, what is wrong with you?  If this doesn’t get stopped, we’re going to lose the thing that brings us all together unless we shell out huge sums of cash to these corrupt bastards.

Net Neutrality

For those of you who don’t know what net neutrality is:

“Net neutrality is the principle that Internet service providers and governments regulating most of the Internet must treat all data on the Internet the same, and not discriminate or charge deferentially by user, content, website, platform, application, type of attached equipment, or method of communication.” - Wikipedia. 

TL:DR It’s the internet’s deceleration of independence.

This git person of ill dispute:  

Trump’s FCC chairman, Ajit Pai, wants to take Net Neutrality away from YOU by DECEMBER. once it’s gone it WILL NOT COME BACK. I should not have to explain to you why this has to be stopped. 

cr1tikal put it best: “You’ll basically be buying loot boxes from your ISP. The internet will have have loot boxes where you pay more for certain websites and you’ll be buying packages that come with a random assortment of websites.”

That’s just the beginning. 

Without the internet many of us would have never had the opportunity to meet and express ideas. YOUR free speech is on the line here and if we cross that line I fear for our futures. Many of us only know our histories because of the internet, we must refuse to let ourselves be erased again. 

WHAT CAN I DO?

Simple. Do what y’all did to EA, the public outcry and rage against the lootbox and gambling systems had EA back peddling. Apply that to stopping the FCC and we wont loose Net Neutrality. Remember governments exist to serve the people, not the other way. Not banks, not corporations.

Back in 2015 you demanded that the FCC adopt strict net neutrality rules and establish a free and open internet. And you won. 

That should’ve been the end of it. But apparently not.

The new head of the FCC wants to undo the net neutrality protections you fought so hard for.

His proposed changes open the door to your web traffic being slowed down, or even blocked altogether. You could be forced to pay extra to use your favorite apps. You could even be prevented from getting news from the sources you trust.

Title II protects consumers and democracy by ensuring all voices can be heard.

You know the drill. Here’s what to do:

The FCC is taking comments from the public, and dearfcc.org is making it as simple as possible for you to make your voice heard.

You’ll just need to provide a name, an address, and then say a little bit about why rolling back Title II protections is a bad idea. If you’re not quite sure what to write, here’s something to get you started:

I’m writing to urge you to keep our Open Internet rules based on Title II in place. Without them, we could lose the internet as we know it.

The proposed changes to FCC rules would allow fast lanes for sites that pay, and force everyone else into slow lanes. We’ve already seen access to streaming services like Netflix, popular games like League of Legends, and communication platforms like FaceTime slowed down, or even blocked. Conditions like this hurt businesses large and small, and penalize the users who patronize them. 

The changes also open the door to unfair taxes on internet users, and could also make it harder for blogs, nonprofits, artists, and others who can’t pay up to have their voices heard.

Please leave the existing net neutrality rules based on Title II in place.

~*~ ExoGen - Abandoned Fragile Dreams ~*~

Ah, so I did end up finishing *something* (finally).

I have been watching a lot of Dan Bell’s ‘Dead Mall Series’ which ultimately inspired me to do this. A lot of these malls are from the late 70s and the 80s, and since the background music he uses for this series is Vaporwave, I wanted to go for a sort of ‘dreamy, wisful, quasi-80s look’. Not sure if I succeeded, but at least I am sort of content with this picture.

I, myself, don’t come from a country where malls are/were a bit thing. While we do have them here, especially in the city I live in, they can’t really be compared to what they are in the US, so while the whole ‘nostalgia for malls’ and their impact on society and lifestyle are not something I can relate to, I am fascinated by the videos about them non the less.

Additionally, it was nice to draw Genesis and Exodus in one picture again, I really don’t draw them often enough together.

I probably should doodle more original art and keep this tumblr more active, but since I started to draw for the sake of trying to make artwork to hang up in my apartment, I have become even more picky with my art then I already had been.

and Riu is a Bandmember of Metronome whose Guitarist is Fukusuke and Fukusuke is the (joke)’Husband’ of Kaya who is also friends with Ricky. Additionally, Fukusuke had Jet in on of his videos who had been in another project of Ricky’s (whose name I just forgot; it’s been a few years)

We can spin this game round and round.

As I said, I am not surprised, I just find it odd that DASEIN would be playing with DA since I am not aware that he wrote for them, which would at least make a closer connection than ‘I know this guy who knows this guy who knows this guy’, is all. But then again, maybe DA did, since DASEIN, at least ‘back in the day’ made predominately very upbeat music similar to what DA does.
