MASTEREDFEAR, a personal and almost entirely rewritten interpretation of DR. JONATHAN CRANE / THE SCARECROW of dc's batman franchise, by fredster. highly selective, mutuals and 18+ only, and private. very much low activity, i write when i feel like it and no more than that. i strongly recommend for mutuals to fill out the INTEREST TRACKER before interacting. themes include burning down the village to feel its warmth, on the outside looking in, a spiritual successor to carrie, the outsider, clawing out a place for yourself in a society that doesn't want you, taking your flaws and making them your strengths, and deals with the devil ( but you're the devil ).

h*rley dragging jonathan along to see movies, getting something to eat, etc. making sure he gets out of the basement in more ways than just sc*recrow shenanigans. h*rley making sure jonathan is included at least in some things.

omg, the way the nurse gets back up again after james shoots her ( s.h 2 rem*ke gamepl*y timestamped link ) is so sc*recrow coded. moving like a broken doll, somehow just resisting the shotgun blast.

just popping in here to say that, while this isn't my interpretation of Crane, I just love that Harley cares for him here

trying to pull an all-nighter to reset my sleep schedule ( it's wild ), and that got me thinking about jonathan's sleep schedule. being unemployed from a traditional job, he stays up and works on his fear toxin when he wants to ( most times working until he falls asleep at his desk ). other times, when someone else has need of him / has hired him to do some job / etc., he can appear randomly and without warning. i'd imagine more than one 'boss' has woken up to sc*recrow staring at them from the corner of their room at 3 am ( if it has information to give or send, it will give it regardless of potentially being seen as inconsiderate, rude, etc. ). becky is probably used to seeing the sc*recrow entity around on her daily errands or at night in random intervals as well. general sc*recrow and rogue shenanigans also lend themselves to jonathan being a majority night owl.

those analog h*rror-esque vhs tape training videos for the pd with sc*recrow in the background of random shots, not seen in the shot until it starts moving, contorted in random positions / laying on chairs / etc., the way it moves when idle just being very weird, or straight up out in the open looking directly at the camera

the people sc*recrow secretly cares for are all at least a little inspired / accepting of its behavior ( both in general and in terms of defending them ). this can be seen with molly and lindsay to varying degrees, if not becky as well ( nikki will have to say one way or the other on this ). so yes, there is a secret and very small but devoted group of inspired persons / devotees of sc*recrow sprinkled around gotham.

thinking about how jon so desperately wanted to be accepted / fit in, but among other reasons he was rejected by his coworkers for his shabby clothes. he thought he would be able to be in their good graces if he had money and nice clothes.

I'm not motivated to go to a gym by wanting to look like someone who goes to a gym. I never have, because I simply don't. I want to be deceptively fast and strong for someone who looks like gollum. To be flexible and nimble enough to make people ask questions like "how the fuck are you sitting like that" and "how the fuck did you get up there?" One day I want to be the old guy that's fucking ancient but nobody knows exactly how old I am - all they know that people have been guessing "isn't he like 80 years old" for the past 30 years.

I don't want to reach peak performance to show off what the human body is capable of. I want to show off what I'm capable of in a way that makes people second-guess whether I'm entirely human.

wind whistles past the great tubing that is the close - packed buildings of gotham. but despite the late hour, nobody is out. not here, not now. she shouldn't be here, nobody should. locals had long since learned not to risk tripping into the SCARECROW'S stalking grounds at night. but, like so many others, she was a victim of being in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

body turns, curls until gaze finally meets her own. two unblinking circles of green stare from the void of black sclera. it's been a while since a civilian was this stupid. ❝ unless you've come as a volunteer ... ❞ for what, it hasn't said, but she'd do best to avoid that. voice is dull, disinterested, raspy; flesh - trapped other self hadn't planned on taking in another volunteer for toxin experiments quite so soon, but it can make arrangements for him ...

rasp is finally raised once more: speaking again. ❝ ... you'll shut your mouth and think before you speak to me. ❞ neither self was one to suffer what it considered a fool gladly.
