I really appreciated that they didn’t demonize Harper’s character in this scene. While she made choices that ultimately hurt her partner, they humanized the struggle LGBTQ+ people face when revealing their authentic selves to family and the ramifications that can have. That experience really is different for everyone. Sometimes it can be easy to forget that not everyone is at the same point of acceptance with all aspects of their sexuality or gender identity; we are all on different journeys and someone else being in a different place in their journey does not mean they’re invalid, or a horrible person. Having empathy and understanding for our own people is important too. That said, it’s also okay to want a partner that is in the same place you are at in your journey.

I think this is what anxiety sounds like

I’ve improved a lot. But I messed up things previously, and I recognize it. Hopefully whoever I end up with will love me, want me, and be patient with me. I will be the same way with them. Through thick and thin, I’ll be there for it all.

It had to end, to heal us. He is still hurting. I am too. He’s always going to have that piece of me with him. Don’t ever think it’ll happen again, just hopeful that someone comes along and steals my heart like he did.
