steph moved from her bed, opening the door. she wasn’t expecting her brother, but it was a nice surprise to see him. “hi,” she greeted, opening the door wider for her brother. she wouldn’t say this to many but she often thought of him as her one true best friend, he was the only one to ask her how she was. she supposed that it was easy for their parents, to have such an obedient servant to their crown.

“is everything alright?” she asked, she might look calm and collected but her heart was pounding in her chest, she might be engaged but that did not mean she was ready to meet them yet.

“I was coming to ask you the same thing.” Mathaios said, slipping inside her room. “Are you okay? I doubt they asked you.” Their parents weren’t necessarily cruel, but they also weren’t kind, he was well aware of that. They wanted their children to fall into the same sort of mold that they did.

“Oh she’s never dating,” Freya assured him with the brightest smile as she looked over at him knowing one day they would have to deal with it. She only hoped she never shared the same heartache that she did. “What’s something that you want for the future, Mathaios?” She asked him quietly keeping the focus on learning about each other it would keep her from getting mushy over how much she loved him she knew once she put Athena in her crib that she would focus on that as it was.

“God, no. I meant share her with the people. Of our countries.” He was not even going to think about her dating. Ever. Not for at least another decade, possibly more. “I want you,” he said quietly, eyes following her as she put Athena to bed. “And Athena, and whatever other children we decide to have, making a space for our family in our countries.” He didn’t daydream about them being king and queen nearly as much as he daydreamed about them just living together, no matter where it was.

Freya never thought she would enjoy being so affectionate in front of others, but whenever she was near Mathaios everything else seemed to melt away. She barely even noticed those around her. “You’re also very biased about that subject, Mr. Savas,” She pointed out to him as she shifted to lean against his side.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about. I am obviously the least biased person.” He claimed, well aware that the grin on his face was contradicting his words. He wasn’t a great liar, but it wasn’t like he was trying anyways.

Mathaios had gone to find his sister as soon as he found out that she was now engaged. He knew that Persephone wasn’t one to actually speak up about what she wanted, even if that something was who she was spending the rest of her life with. He wanted to make sure she was okay with it, and if she wasn’t, he would move heaven and earth to change it for her. “Steph?” He called as he knocked on her door. “Are you in there?”

Riley was exactly one hour and three minutes into rewatching Moana with Novalie and he was already sick of it, but Novalie apparently had a problem whenever he pulled out his phone, so he’d been forced to sit in his bed with her, eating snacks and listening to The Rock sing. When the knock on the door came he happily slipped away, opening it to find someone he vaguely recognised until he spoke. “Oh, you’re Mathaios-” Riley started but was quickly cut off by Novalie shushing him from across the room, picking up a sandwich and biting into it, her attention entirely held by the animated movie. “Moana.” He whispered, pinching the bridge of his nose before he held out his hand to the man. “Riley though you knew that I’m guessing.”

Mathaios had no idea what Moana was, but he assumed it was definitely something to do with the daughter he was just now remembering Riley had. “Sorry.” He said, pitching his voice softer in the same manner as the other man. “I did not mean to interrupt, if you need to get back to her?” He offered, shifting in place.

Dominik would probably tell her that this was a bad idea and that she should keep walking away from Freya’s fiancé, not towards him. But Dominik wasn’t here to tell her to keep walking or to physically force her to move in the opposite direction. So she moved towards Mathaios until she was standing directly in front of him, a smile spread on her face. 

“You’re Freya’s fiancé right? Hi, I’m Adaline. I just wanted to introduce myself.”

Mathaios knew it was a bad habit to not actually pay attention to those around him when he was walking towards a specific goal, but it happened far too often for comfort. And especially as the afternoon dragged on and he was looking forward to his bed more and more. He blamed that on the fact that he stared at the woman in front of him for a solid question before it clicked in his head who she was. Freya’s friend, she’d mentioned her several tiems.

“Adaline, of course. Freya mentioned you, it’s lovely to meet you. I’m Mathaios.”

Freya knew that they would never be even. He gave her everything without asking for much in return, but she would take what she could. Nothing quite compared to the way he made her heart race against her chest. “I feel the same way. I already have to share her with you, but I’d rather keep it between the two of us. Besides I don’t think that anyone else deserves to spend time with our little darling. She is far too precious for them.”

He took more than enough for himself, he took her time, he took her touch, and whatever else she gave him, and was grateful for it. Not in the way that made him pathetic, but in the way that made his heart race and his skin heat whenever she was nearby, and he couldn’t help but give anything to keep her there. “I agree. We’ll have to share her too much when she’s older anyways. I’d rather keep it for us for now.”

Freya was focused on the fire in front of her before she heard his voice causing her to perk up as she looked up at Mathaios. “There you are,” there he certainly was. He was always so breathtakingly beautiful, but there was something special about having the way the fire light lit up his curls that she loved. Without hesitation she stood up in order to slide her arms around his waist to give her a way to balance as she leaned up in order to steal a kiss from him. “Have I ever told you how I have the most good looking fiance here?” She asked him before sitting back down leaving space for him.

He was never going to protest kissing Freya, even if he had never been fond of people who displayed excessive displays of affection in public. He was starting to see why they did it, and he settled into the spot next to her, looping an arm around her waist. “I think you must be wrong. My fiance is the best looking.”

Mathaios had been meaning to meet Freya’s family since the news came that they were engaged, but he had continuously put it off as long as he possibly could. He wasn’t really sure why, he knew Freya loved him, he knew there was very little that could separate them now. But he was still nervous about this. He was allowed to be. He finally sighed and knocked on the door in front of him. He knew that Freya’s twin was in this room, he’d helped set up half the arrangements, so he assumed the man that opened the door was him, and he gave a smile that he hoped looked genuine. “I thought it was about time I introduce myself to you. I’m Mathaios, I’m marrying your sister?”

Freya wasn’t exactly thrilled by the idea of a forced intimate get together with the other royals but she figured if she was engaged to the crown prince of the host country she had to get over it and deal with what was in front of her. With a warm smile hoping to come off far more welcoming than she felt she decided to settle in near the fire hoping to mostly keep warm but also to at least be a good face for her soon to be country.

Mathaios was grateful for the unseasonable warmth, since it was allowing them to have this bonfire. He had a lot of fond memories of nights like this, with his sister and a few friends gathered around the fire. Now it seemed there were going to be more. He’d left Athena with a nanny so that he could come out to not only represent Greece, but find Freya. And he had, the firelight dancing across her face making him pause for a moment to take it in before he tapped her shoulder. “Is this seat taken?” He asked, motioning at the spot next to her.

“You certainly would but I’m also sure it’s fairly clear that there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you either,” she pointed out turning her head just so in order to kiss his cheek briefly, “But hiring helps means someone else raising our girl and I’d prefer if we put that off for as long as humanly possible. As long as we can both handle it we shouldn’t need a nanny. I was just offering to come up with a schedule of who wakes up with her which nights so we’re both equally as rested as possible.”

“Then I believe we’re even.” He said, as if those words hadn’t sent a fission of joy through him. He loved that they had that give and take. It made it easier for them. “I agree, I would rather keep from that as long as possible. I’m afraid I’m going to be a bit selfish when it comes to her time.” He didn’t want to share her with anyone but Freya. “If you’d like. I assumed it would be whichever of us stumbled up first.”

“I know that you wouldn’t have. Just to let you know it’s no secret to your girls that you’re wrapped around our fingers,” She settled down on his couch with the little girl settled against her chest. “But you’re also just as loved by us. I wouldn’t change the way we just fit together for anything. But are you getting enough sleep?” Freya asked him knowing that she worried about him.

“I would be doing a poor job of keeping it a secret if that’s what I was trying to do.” He said dryly, settling on the couch next to her, arm around her. “I am getting plenty of sleep.” He assured her. “If I thought my ability to perform my duties was incapacitated, I would have to hire someone to help, but for now, I am fine.” In truth, he already had several nannies lined up, but he really couldn’t stand the idea of being apart from her just yet.

“You may have mentioned it once or twice but I never mind hearing how happy you are,” She admitted not holding back on her own bright smile. Seeing him happy was always going to do something to her heart she was sure. It meant everything to her, just as Athena’s happiness would. “I honestly was quite afraid I was going to have to move in without warning you and taking over a massive amount of space so it would feel like it was more effort for me to move out. But I do mean it, Mathaios. Once we’re married I want to adopt her.”

"I wouldn't have said anything." He admitted easily. Denying her something was not something he had been able to do just yet. And that included his own space, no matter how selfishly he had guarded it against anyone but himself and his daughter until now. "I would love that, Freya. I had hoped for something like that, but did not want to push you towards it."

“I know that you love being her father and wouldn’t dream of changing anything, but that doesn’t mean that it’s all on your shoulders to do everything. I’m here too,” she reminded him unsure if she was being too pushy about it but she decided to drop it for now. “Just know I want to do everything I can for either of you. You’re not forcing me into anything except maybe us not having another child for a good few years. I want this little one to get all of her spoiled time in before we add more. I don’t want her to think for a second that we jumped to having more because she wasn’t enough for me. As it is I’m seeing if I adopt her officially if she can be my heir too. I’m serious about this.”

“I know you are, and I appreciate it greatly.” He assured her. He really did, he loved that she wanted to be a part of both of their lives, that she was pushing for that. But he didn’t want her to regret pushing into things that would end up complicated. He couldn’t help his smile growing wide enough that he was a little afraid he was going to injure something. “Have I mentioned lately that you are the best woman I have ever met?” He asked, pushing open the door to his rooms. “And if you truly wish to move in here, I will not stop you.”

“If anything that’s more of an argument on why I should go ahead and stay with you two. That way taking care of her isn’t entirely on your shoulders, Mathaios,” She adjusted Athena in able to tap his chin thoughtfully for a moment, “You’re not a single parent anymore. I promise that leaning on me to be her mother in every single way won’t scare me away. I want this just as much as you do. I’m not going anywhere easily.”

“I don’t mind. I love being her father, and part of that is waking up to her.” He said, patting the infant’s back. “I don’t want to put any pressure on you to move more quickly than you want to.” He didn’t want to push her to move in, accidentally or otherwise. He was sure that in any other circumstances, she would be waiting until they were actually married.
