Happy Mother's Day to all the lovely mums out there! I'm utterly in love with these biscuits decorated with pressed florals by Vaani @sugarplumbakeskingston . I think anyone receiving these would be so delighted, don't you? Besides being a brilliant wedding cake designer she's a wonderful mother, amazing at styling and an all around amazing person. She styled this beautiful flat lay with floral envelopes that I painted and calligraphed last week. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ To celebrate the mums around me in real life and in this lovely community I'm tagging just a few of the amazing mums that inspire me with their beautiful work and fab personalities! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I hope you've got the chance to spend some time with loved ones today. Painting white flowers was one of the things I found the most daunting at the start of my watercolour journey. Because how do you mix the perfect white? Especially if you have no white in your palette. With watercolour I usually don't, with gouache I sometimes do. Either way I always start by mixing tones of red, blue and yellow. Maybe adding a hint of something to get a special tone of white I'm looking for. And with gouache sometimes adding a bit of white if I want a more opaque look. If you look closely you'll find lots of beautiful tones of colours in white petals. So I'm spending a lot of time with my brushes and nibs and not as much time here. But I can't wait to share what I'm up to with you. With the calligraphy I do I tend to have to wait until after weddings, events or after editorials have been published. Getting into that Friday feeling! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I'm spending today doing all my favourite things. Painting and doing calligraphy for a beautiful upcoming styled shoot. One of my rules that I've set for myself is to try to keep some time free from client work on Friday afternoons. It's something about the texture of handmade paper that I just find so wonderfully romantic and timeless. Not calligraphy or painting related but something I find very important (and I squeezed in a couple of paintings in the photo). Some of you may have seen me sharing that I'm continuing to switch to more natural and environmentally friendly products this year and I just wanted to recommend @wildsageandco to anyone trying to do the same. Other than that I'm in love with their rose lip balm and clay face mask I've finally found a shampoo bar that I really enjoy using. I have very long thick hair and most bars seem to make it feel like the product is all still in my hair (not the best of feelings). But this one is working beautifully for me. After I've rinsed out the shampoo I sometimes use an apple cider vinegar rinse (a few tablespoons of vinegar mixed with 500ml water) which helps make my hair extra smooth and shiny. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Have you been changing up the products you use in an effort to be more environmentally friendly?
