“All the girls?” He questioned, studying her as he did. She was tough as nails, he could see that. Not like the other dames that tried to get his attention after shows. “No, ma’am. Just the ones that deserve it and so far, that’s only been you.”
It took Willy a minute to notice the heap of girls in the corner but once he did he made to grin at them too, tipping his hat to say hello before turning back to his lovely new friend. It seemed like every time he glanced upon her, he noticed something else even more beautiful then the last.
“Irene Wright? Well, shit! Ain’t that got a rang to it! If your callin’ me handsome, I guess I gotta come up with something equally as good now, huh? Only problem with that is, I don’t think any words can describe how beautiful you are…That’s the truth too, Missy.”
“Listen t’you. If I didn’t know any better I’d say you were flirtin’ with me, mister.” Her smile widened at his words, quirking an eyebrow playfully. She was the risk taker out of her group of friends -- a polite and good Southern girl on a Sunday, but any other day she would find a rule to break, and act as unladylike as possible. Indeed, she was tough as nails. But he had her reduced to a shy, blushing mess.
That accent, and those looks? He was certainly something. And his name was something she’d never heard of before. Mogul sounded interesting, unusual. Unique. In time she’d come to learn it was an Austrian last name, for they were an Austrian-American family who had fled the influence of Germany. But she didn’t know that right now. What she did know was that this Willy was for sure a looker, and smooth with his words, too.
“Are we gonna get drinks an’ sit in the corner, or are we gon’ spend all day gassin’ at the bar?” Her tone was playful, light. She was a summer breeze, gentle and warm in everything that she did. And God, just looking at him almost made her heart stop. “I ain’t ladylike with m’choices of drink, I’m afraid. I’ll have a Kilkenny ale.”
Willy stormed into their small little bedroom to find his hat on the vanity, sitting their, mocking him. He grabbed it and threw it on his head before walking out to meet his love. He smiled and leaned down to kiss her forehead gently. Just a little peck to remind her how much he loved her. “Darlin’, what the hell would I do withoutcha?” He winked at her and after a moment, he sat down across from her, watching her sew. “That’s for the Flynn girl, ain’t it? Don’t mess up! Don’t mess up!” He teased before chuckling.
“You stop that!” Laughter escaped from red lips as the elderly woman lent to give her husband a pat. “Yes, s’for Ava. It’s so nice t’see Adele with a friend.” Considering her very lonely and isolated upbringing as a child. It was very much tragic what had happened to Adelias when staying with her stepfather and mother ---- but she would always be safe, so long as she was with her true family. Taking off her glasses, Irene sighed, turning to look at her husband. “How about some cool beer or a nice tea?”
“This Stanley fella writin’ f’the newspaper needs t’get out more. Anyone shovin’ the word ‘irresolute’ int’ a little article about this clearly isn’t seein’ enough ‘uv the world.”

“Sweetheart, come sit.” She pats the spare seat next to her, tucking into the slice of toast made moments earlier. “You need something to eat, you look like you ain’t eaten in days. Let your Ma make you breakfast.”

“I think the better question here, sweetheart, is what the hell would the lil ones want with my seeds anyway?!” He called to her as he made his way to the sink to check and then sighed when the weren’t there. “Jesus-” He stopped himself from cussing, not wanting to do it in front of his lovely wife. “Honey, I don’t even give a rat’s ass bout the seeds no more! I just want mah damn hat! Irene, I’m about ta have a heart attack if I can’t find ‘em!”
“Have y’checked the coat hooks? Our room? The coffee table?” She listed off possible areas, briefly glancing up from her sewing again. Irene was mending a tear in that nice Ava woman’s red dress --- the least she could do for the woman. She was a darling. Certainly one of the family, now. “Honey, don’t go gettin’ y’self so worked up. I don’t wanna be checkin’ you int’ the Medical Pavilion f’blood pressure!”
“Evenin’, ma’am.” He said back, a small grin sliding across his face and brightening his features and he tipped his hat at her. The giggle she gave out was the icing on the cake and his smile only widened, his eyes becoming kinder as he seemed to warm up quickly to her.
“I knew it!” He declared, shaking his head slightly as he smiled at her. “I knew you was to pretty to be a local! I’d remember a face like yours.”
Remember to be a gentleman! Remember to be a gentleman!
“William Mogul at yer service, ma’am. You can just call me Willy though, everyone does.” He stuck out his hand for either a shake or hers to kiss.
“Too pretty? I bet y’say that t’all the girls that come on through here.” Another giggled seeped past her lips, and her friends --- a gang of girl’s similar in age, three brunettes and a redhead, were nothing but a cluster of whispers in the corner as Irene momentarily buried her nose in her drink. At the offer of his hand, she looked a little surprised, but made to shake it anyway.
“Willy, huh? Well. Since you’s already told me your name, s’only fair I tell you mine.” She beamed, making to tuck some blonde curls behind an ear. “Irene Wright. I ain’t got a fancy nickname like yours, but y’can call me whatever y’want --- handsome.” The girl’s in the corner burst into shrill giggles, and Irene could feel her cheek’s going a little pink, but she didn’t care. He was gorgeous.
