Tintype of best buds in bowler hats enjoying a joke for two, c. 1880s
Bronco Buster (1952), an obscure rodeo movie from Budd Boetticher and the author of They Shoot Horses Don’t They, Horace McCoy.
BRONCO BUSTER, 1908. F.M. Corbin worked for the Elliott Outfit, likely within a 40-mile radius of Terry in far Eastern Montana. Cowboy Corbin posed for an Evelyn Cameron portrait while wearing heavy wool California pants in an era when only “honyockers” wore denim. The vest was typical, worn for its pockets when shirts had none and everyone smoked. The horse had a Cavalry bit and a single-rigged saddle. The chaps were upscale as were the lady-leg spurs (see closeup in first comment on my page). The revolver had initials that were not the rider’s. The horse’s eye was covered to still the unshod horse.
Donna Lucey’s extensively researched “Photographing Montana” is the seminal volume on the life and photos of Evelyn Cameron. PC users can click image to enlarge and better see detail.
