Church of the Good Shepherd http://flic.kr/p/LYh1Ww Another trip to NZ and another night spent in Tekapo. This time the weather was miserable and there was a forecast of snow. Don't let the clear skies in this shot tell you it was a lovely clear night. It was far from it, a storm to the east, a dusting of snow you can see on the left hand side roof. Howling winds.I couldn't feel my fingers by the end of the half hour I spent here at 3am. At least i had the place to myself. I did catch some nebulae in this photo. Orion Nebula is immediately above the belltower, pleiades is immediately to the let at the height of the roof, the small magellic cloud in the top right hand corner. any experienced astronomers able to plate solve any others for me?

Devonport Lighthouse http://flic.kr/p/KS3vkS After absolutely terrible weather at Cradle Mountain only an hour and a half earlier, its hard to believe that this was the same day.

Dorothy Falls http://flic.kr/p/JcuWxQ From the Bridge on the road around Lake Kaniere, we will be heading back to NZ before to long but unsure if we will hit the west coast again.

Frosty Puddle http://flic.kr/p/HAqHBv First frost of the year at home, still nothing on the frost we had a month ago in Tassie. It is nice having a fire at home, however the frost has killed off what was left of the vege garden unfortunately. Out with the old I suppose.

Convict Sunrise http://flic.kr/p/JmsZ9s The view from the backyard of my Brother & Sister-in-laws place in Cressy, Tasmania. Amazing in its own right, but of a sunrise it was simply stunning to sit and watch. Some will no doubt criticise this as clown vomit, however I couldn't capture the scene in 1 shot.

The Cressy Watchtower http://flic.kr/p/HbJVCT We were lucky enough to stay on a property which featured the old Cressy township. This is the tower used to ensure that the bastards from Longford didn't steal Cressy's produce. I didn't climb it, but looked quite amazing down by the river.

Liffey Falls http://flic.kr/p/GZUjT9 I have seen several great shots of Russell Falls in Tasmania recently. There appears a competition between which falls is a better looking. Not having visited Russell falls myself, the logical choice is of course this one. Unfortunately the water was running a bit hard for me to venture to the otherside of the stream which would have given a clearer composition.

The road into Cradle Mountain. http://flic.kr/p/GSiYEy This scene presents itself to you as you drive into Cradle Mountain National Park. There is old, cleared forestry for a significant amount of the drive in. I'm not sure when it was cleared, nor why, but it was littered with "no trespassing" signs which made me think it was at least slightly controversial given the 'old growth forest' clearing having previously been an election issue. We managed to spot a couple of wombats whilst we were in this area which was a nice experience.

Dove Lake Boat House http://flic.kr/p/Hhe1es We recently returned from a lovely trip to Tasmania whereby i got the camera out and got back on the horse so to speak. It had been nearly 12 months to the day since we were in New Zealand and that long since I had picked up the camera aside from a one off milky way shoot. Unfortunately for me, it seems the adage that practice makes perfect runs true. I have come home after witnessing some absolutely spectacular sights to have some lackluster photos with genuinely rookie errors. This location was quite amazing, however it is likely not the scenery which will stick with me for a lifetime, but the cold! It was utterly atrocious. I have not ever been so cold, not even after a trip through the Shotover canyon at 60kph in the dead of winter. The wind was quite amazing, preventing me from taking any sort of long exposure. It was blowing in a decent mist off the lake and completely hiding Cradle Mountain. I took a few shots from this vantage point, and a few slightly closer, however I couldn't bring myself to venture into the house itself. We were all chilled right to the bone and knew we had a 10 minute hike carrying a 2 year old back to the car park. Ultimately we turned around, had a feed at the cafe, looked around a couple of the short walks and left. It would be a great place to spend a week and do the various walks and hopefully some nicer weather.
