My most recent piece for The Jam was a side story from my series Dedication (RIP Double Take) that I wrote in tribute to George Romero (RIP). George Reynolds, the owner of George’s Market from the book is a tribute to Romero himself, so I thought it would be fun to see what he would do if he had to interact with a news reporter.
Here’s a page from something coming very soon in an anthology to benefit the families affected by the Manchester tragedy. Art and colors by Dan Werneck, Letters by Josh Southall. Robot Punch! is the best SFX I’ve ever written.
The theme for this one was “Mechs” and I reverse-engineered the script from the last panel. I knew going in that I wanted the robot giving the finger, I just needed to get there. This still cracks me up.
My third piece for The Comic Jam was about Spies. The thing I love about the Jam is it’s weekly themes that we all vote on and then get paired with artists (always shuffled week to week) I wrote this entirely in first-person POV and Miller nailed it.
My second piece for The Jam was a piece for Star Wars week. I’m hooked on writing strong female characters (Having been raised by a single mother and two older sisters) and wanted a badass bounty hunter Jedi hunting one of the largest creatures in the Star Wars universe!
So, I’ve been chosen as a finalist in the Ghost City Comics Competition (ghostcitycomics.com) for this one pager I wrote for The Comic Jam. This was my first work for The Jam and is incredibly personal to me. I lost my sister to an aggressive form of brain cancer in 2014. I had just moved from NY to CT with my then-girlfriend (now wife) in February and was not in NY when she passed. It’s a regret I’ll have for the rest of my life and wrote this piece as the one thing I would do if given the ability to travel in time.
