“That would be a good idea if it weren’t for the fact that your dad kinda already screwed the pooch with lying to my dad already. I don’t think he needs to be tainting the waters any more than it already has been.” Piper advised. She really didn’t want to put Bruce in that situation for fear that he would damage his relationship with her dad permanently. “Trust me Matty this is going to be fine, you’re not going to be hurt by my dads. This is literally such an innocent little incident that everyone’s going to forget it in a week.”

“You realize one of your dad is a dinosaur? And, they like... never forget. Or, wait, is that elephants? That’s probably elephants. Still. I don’t know,” he claimed with a lift of his shoulders.

Matthew’s voice, broke him out of his concentration enough for him to turn and face him. He looked him up and down, trying to gauge what the problem might be before answering.

“What is it, son?”

“Uh... well...” Matty cleared his throat. “See, the car got uh, impounded, and you have to go pick it up,” he claimed.

From what Bruce observed, Tony was deteriorating and faster than he had anticipated. He swore to not experiment on his best friend, not without permission and clearance. This time, he would hold himself to that–to the best of his ability. A lot of things had been on his mind, from learning his former wife was publicly considered deceased, to his son being in the hospital for god knows what. 

He needed a distraction, desperately. Tony was usually the best kind. For three days, he was held up in his lab and going on minimal sleep as he researched what better ways he could treat Tony’s condition. What stung the most was getting some data back and realizing it was his fault to begin with that Tony was progressing. No one else can know that. He’d take that guilt to his grave if he had to. 

If anyone approached the lab, he didn’t hear the hissing of the doors. The scientist was just standing there, staring intently at complicated data feeds on multiple holo-screens. He needed to put the pieces together and come up with something that was not entirely off-limits.

Matty had hoped his father wasn’t too far gone to at least notice his appearance. No such luck. He stood there awkwardly, watching the man for a good few minutes before he sucked it up and crossed the room to sit down in front of him, not bothering to look at the screens. His dad would shut him out of the information anyway.

“Dad? We need to talk.”

Piper tried to be more comforting then she had been and held Matty’s hand as he and the police officer exchanged words. Sadly the result was as they feared, and pretty soon they were put in the back of a police car on the way to the station where they would call their parents. But not letting the fact they were in front of a police official deter her Piper lopped her arm with Matty’s held his hand and leaned into him. “For what its worth still no the worst thing a Stark has been in a cop care for. Let’s just enjoy the ride together, I mean yeah not particularly romantic but I mean we can totally work in a Bonnie and Clyde feel with some imagination if we really need to.”

“Bonnie and Clyde?” Matty repeated with a snort and shake of his head. He was nervous about being in the back of a police car, but at least the officer was nice and they weren’t really going to be put in a cell. “We can try to call my dad when we get there? He might keep this whole thing a secret from yours. I don’t think he wants either of your dad’s breathing down his neck because of me.”

 HE NODDED WITH understanding, it couldn’t be easy to live the possibility of hulk incidents like the one at the science building. ❛  that’s a weird logic, dude.  ❜  he didn’t get how working for the army would help with that, but just shrugged.  ❛  i mean, you’re here so he obviously wants you to get a more formal education sort of thing.  ❜  

Matt nodded in agreement. “Hopefully. Maybe I can stay long enough to shadow my dad or one of the doctors,” he reckoned. “What do you want to be when you grow up? Iron Man? Captain America?”

“Not if you tell him you were trying to impress a pretty girl. You’re a young guy who’s trying to impress the girl you like, he’ll totally know what that’s like.” Piper’s hand went to rubbing his shoulder hoping to make him less tense. “You have such a wild and panicked imagination, Matty. They aren’t going to kill you. …maybe Daddy might but Pops won’t. No, you’ll have to deal with his lecturing and I’ll make sure I get ahold of him before I get anyone else.”

Matty gave her a look briefly before sighing. “Yeah, I guess. Just... worried, I don’t want them thinking me being your boyfriend is a bad thing. I mean -- I -- I never get in trouble and now --” he paused as the police officer knocked on the window. He rolled it down and handed over the insurance, then began explaining he had no license once more.

Piper raised an eyebrow at the boy but decided to take some pity on him, after all, he was trying to do something sweet. She took a deep breath then gave Matty a small smile as she reached over and put her hand on his whihc were now gripping the steering wheel. “Alright lover boy, just pull over and ease up okay? We’ll let the police officer do his job and just have a nice ride down to the station.” Her smile got bigger. “Besides, your punishment for this is I’m gonna have to call one of my dad’s, and this is how you meet them.”

Matty pulled over as she suggested, his hands loosening a bit off the wheel. “The station? God, my grandpa is going to kill me,” he groaned mostly to himself. “Your dad is going to kill me. Like... both of them. Oh man, I can’t even say to call one and not the other because they both know how to get away with murder.”

 ❛  WHAT’S WRONG WITH being like your dad?  ❜   he asked curiously. he sure would love to be as smart as the man.  ❛  still think you should just do what you want, man.  ❜

“You know... like... Hulk accidents,” Matty pointed out. “He doesn’t want me to hurt anyone or hurt myself. He does it for the good of me,” he explained. “I do -- I think. I want to be a doctor. I think he’s going to let me.”

“Hm, well he’s not here and you’re not telling one to him so this is fine.” However, at Matty’s next words PIper turned to him quickly saying. “What?! Why didn’t you ask me to drive? Wh-why are you driving in the first place if you don’t have one?” Piper paused for a moment cause she was kind of getting an idea as to why he did it. “Okay forget what I said about before, this is not fine.”

Matty gripped the wheel, watching out of his mirror as the cop out of the car. “I don’t -- I don’t know! I just... you wanted to go out to eat and -- and I wanted to take you somewhere special. I’ve been driving before! I -- I mean, I went this far before, I never got pulled over. I didn’t do anything wrong,” he insisted.

   ❛  YOUR GRANDFATHER SOUNDS way too controlling, dude,  ❜   he mused. he didn’t know much about grandparents, never had one, but he was pretty sure that wasn’t how it usually went.  ❛  if that’s what you want to do, you should do it. i’m sure your dad would like that.  ❜

Matty shrugged, not really denying it. “He only does it so I don’t turn out like my dad,” he admitted bluntly. Not that he thought anything was wrong with his dad, but Matty didn’t want to be on the run his entire life.

“You’ve never lied before? Ever?” Piper asked curiously. “And here I am corrupting you. Oddly enough I don’t feel bad about that.” Piper grinned and kept up a conversation as they continued to drive that was until she noticed there were lights flashing behind them. Then the sound of a police siren. “Oh, That’s inconvenient. Wonder what they’re pulling us over for.”

“Well, no. I mean... maybe I did when I was younger. I don’t remember. I’ve never had a reason to lie. My grandpa isn’t exactly the best guy to tell fibs to,” Matty explained with a shrug of his shoulders. At the police siren, his body tensed and he slowly turned off the road. “Um... I -- Piper, I don’t have a license,” he admitted.

Summer had finally hit and while Rhea was relieved it had, she also found it depressing considering she enjoyed learning quite alot. There were a few places she planned to visit. One being the local movie theatre. While midgardian things kept her confused, she enjoyed movies a bit. Especially the chick flicks and a few action ones. She was sitting outside at one of the tables with a stack of books when a shadow blocked the light. “Am i sitting somewhere I’m not suppose to?” She asked, slowly looking up at the figure.

Matty frowned at the question, eyes scanning the area around them briefly before he gave a shake of his head. “No. But, I was told you checked out a book I was interested in and uh, I was wondering when you’d be done with it,” he admitted sheepishly.

  HIS EYES KEEP shifting from the game to the other boy, the game character following a trail as he did the same with matty’s story.  ❛  super secret army stuff, right? that sounds crazy, man.  ❜   he was still curious to know exactly what the teen and whoever his hulk version was had done for his grandfather, but didn’t push. super secret hulk missions sounded way above his clearance. ❛  so is this like retirement? or are you going back?  ❜

“Retirement?” Matty repeated with a raised brow. “I... No? I don’t know. Grandpa said I need to learn how to socialize with people my own age. I don’t know if he’s going to want me to go back when I’m done with school or if I’ll get to choose what I want to do. I kind of want to be a doctor.”

She laughed at his reaction to the knowledge that both her parents were still home. “I told them mom texted me saying she wanted to go shopping or to the movies. Which she did, but she’s schduled a day off next week. They don’t know that though.” She explained, “You’re not that worried are you Matty?”

“Worried? Oh uh, no. I’m great,” Matty assured her. “I’ve just... never exactly lied before. It’s kind of a weird feeling. I’m happy to be here, though. With you,” he assured her.

  ❛  YOU WERE THEIR hulk?  ❜  he repeated, clearly surprised at what he was being told. matty was just a kid like him and he was pretty sure too young to even be in the military. his attention shifted from the game although he didn’t pause it.  ❛  like going out as the hulk in their missions? what did they have you do?  ❜   he had a decent idea of what it could have been, but couldn’t be certain.

Matty watched the game intently, mesmerized by how better the graphics were than what he was used to. Or, maybe it was just the huge television making the difference. He wasn’t sure. “Yeah, I guess. I’m not really allowed to talk about it.”

  ❛  SURE, MAN,  ❜  HE  shrugged, putting the sweets down so he could get the game going. sitting back on the couch, he kept his eyes on the tv as the game got started.  ❛  so, where had you been hiding that you weren’t in the academy with your brother?  ❜   he asked casually as the game intro movie started and he let it play, figuring the other would appreciate it. gideon didn’t know much about the youngest banner and figured this was a safe enough place to start.

Matty relaxed against the couch and watched the screen closely as the game got up and running. “Military. Working for my grandpa,” he admitted because... honestly, nobody had told him not to tell them. “I was their Hulk.”

Piper thought she was doing a little better about blushing, she kinda wanted to be the one to always make Matty blush. But here she was, cause she wasn’t expecting a kiss right now cause it wasn’t their third date that’s how you were supposed to do- feeling her cheeks overheating. But she couldn’t stop smiling and giggled before she said, “Oh Matty,” She said playfully. “Not even on the date you. Scoundrel. Speaking of hurry up now, both of my Dad’s are home. Wouldn’t want to see Dad’s reaction when he finds me leaving with a boy.”

Matty chuckled at the words. “I mean, well... technically the date started when I picked you up. Totally in boundaries here,” he found himself joking back. “Your -- they’re home? Shit,” he cursed as he started up the car and pulled them out of the driveway to get going. “Where do they think you’re going?”
