So many scenes in this gorgeous film I had to go back and view again (and again and again)

I don’t care that they had cut off all the other deleted scenes, but i will never understand why they left out this speech that is too important for the development of Maurice. This scene marks a turning point in the relationship between Clive and Maurice and shows us how Maurice set himself free from his feelings towards Clive, however, I think that Clive did never love Maurice in the way that Maurice loved Clive. Maurice just wanted to be loved and he never cared about the society’s approval, on the other hand, Clive rejected the affection maurice gave him, and eventually Maurice came to accept that clive was not worthy of his love.

Why did the 1987 movie adaptation of E. M. Forster’s ‘Maurice’ leave out Maurice’s final speech to Clive?

That, for me, was Maurice’s phoenix-rising-from-the-ashes moment. All his life he was made to feel lesser by the intelligent talker, Clive; made to feel his words were but hollow, yet to have him deliver a speech that would have the likes of Cambridge Clive and Risley fawning in veneration — which left Clive speechless no less, was Forster’s way of making the story of MauricexClive come full circle. Clive saw himself or what he could’ve been in Maurice’s courageous admonition. It was beautiful, artful, essential reverse parallelism!

I would like to protect Maurice from everything that hurts him. He deserved someone to share his life with and fortunately he found Alec, a person who is willing to be his till death. Clive was not brave enough to be loved by Maurice.

As for me, I have only watched it once and I truly believe that this film is too short to develop the characters. Nevertheless, I totally agreed with Guy's ideas and the way that he tried to break the rules of the 30's society, besides that, I loved how Guy never tried to hide his homosexuality.
